Buzz Bissinger Would Rather You Stop Reading This
Published 4/30/2008 by MariusJanulisForThree at Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician
To be upfront, I didn't watch last night's railroading of Deadspin's Will Leitch on Costas Now. For the moment, all I can go off of is Will's recap of the events. I'm awaiting the videos to go live on the YouTubes and I'll see what all the hubbub is about. I was about to record the show when I got home when it occurred to me that I don't have HBO anymore (Blame Showtime and their stellar TV Show line-up...yes, it's better than HBOs...sorry). And so, I wait... From what I can tell, we're looking at one of those landmark events. Not in the big picture. But for those of ...

Wilbon Questions Your Credentials!
Published 4/30/2008 by Chris Mottram at Mr. Irrelevant
While we, along with every sports blogger in the ’sphere, await Awful Annoucing’s posting of the Buzz Bissinger insane tirade on Costas Now last night, let’s enjoy the intro to the segment:
Wilbon: “Bloggers? What are their credentials?” Jesus fucking Christ. This is really simple, you dense, out-of-touch, holier than thou dinosaur: You DO NOT need credentials to a) be a fan, b) have an opinion on sports. Blogs combine those two elements to create something just as valid — if not, more so — than anything Wilbon’s done in, oh, I ...
“Costas Now” Internet segment in video from

O’Day asked for it, so here it is. Watching it again … ugh … I really just don’t want to write about it because I’d go on for way too long. (See here, here, here and here for some great writing on it.)
I will say this: it’s clear Buzz doesn’t read blogs; he doesn’t understand them. So to have all that spite and anger built up about something you don’t know at all, it’s a bit much. And it’s a generational thing. It happens in music, art, film, fashion — the old guard can’t except the new. And they aren’t even willing to try. This is not a ...

There Is No Place In the Present For the Future
Published 4/30/2008 at The Sporting Blog
Unless you live under the same rock as author Buzz Bissinger, then you already know all about HBO s Costas Now last night, which was a 90 minute live program attempting to examine various aspects of sports media. The program was broken up into five segments, but for our purposes, the one that mattered most was The Internet. We d hope it would be an intellectual discourse about blogs and their place currently, and moving forward, in the sports media landscape. Instead, what we got was a deranged Buzz Bissinger losing his mind on Deadspin s Will Leitch, and on blogging in general. But before we get to that, here is the intro to the segment, which ...
