ModernTube: Rays' Cowbell Kid bravely battles Red Sox Nation
Published 7/1/2008 by 'Duk at Big League Stew
We've learned a lot of things about the once-anonymous Tampa Bay Rays as they've streaked from only 66 wins in '07 to the best record in baseball near the midpoint of '08. Now meet their signature superfan, the Cowbell Kid, as he battles the invaders from Beantown during Monday night's 5-4 Tampa win. (Warning: Seeing as how this video actually features a packed Tropicana Dome, repeated, loud chants of "Tampa, Tampa," and a signature superfan for the Tampa Bay Rays, this may be a little bit like viewing some sort of strange Bizarro World. Children and pregnant women ...
Rays superfan bringing the crazy
Published 7/1/2008 by Dan Lamothe, Red Sox Monster at Red Sox Monster - MassLive.com
Not that we need another sign, but Big League Stew makes a good point about the growth of Tampa Bay Rays fans this season: You know a team has arrived when it has a superfan... and he doesn't seem like the lone idiot screaming from the bleachers. Video proof, from last night's Sox-Rays game: Yes, that's something you'd probably expect to see from the home fans in Yankee Stadium... or Fenway Park, to be honest. But the Cowboy Kid, as he calls himself, is legit: He's even got a YouTube channel . As for that Red Sox sign getting ripped up, count me among those who isn't fazed in the slightest. We Red Sox fans know ...
Another Silly Rip on Red Sox Nation

Hat tip to The Rational Red Sox Fan for pointing out an article in today's St. Petersburg Times entitled 10 reasons to hate the Red Sox. If anything this shows how hard the Rays fans are trying to be legit but bottom line is they play in the worst stadium in baseball, they live in an area that is home to Scientology, they had to change their name to try to sell more gear, and I can personally say, I have NEVER seen anyone wearing a Rays hat. Maybe Tom Cruise can make some aliens come down and fill the Trop with real fans...until then they can return to being the basement rat that they will always be. If you ...

We’ve Found the Rays Secret Weapon… The Cowbell Kid
Published 7/1/2008 by houroc at SportFiends
As the Rays continue rolling with the current lead in the American League East, people keep asking, how does a team go from 66 wins one year to being one of the top teams in the league (the Kansas City Royals have been asking that for years). Well I wasn’t really sure what it was at first until today…. (queue the suspensful music).
It’s some crazy fan they call the Cowbell Kid and what this guy does is riles up all the fans around the team. It’s taken him a while to work his magic but now he’s got the team playing like contenders. The ...

Well, Lookie There: Rays Have a Fan or Three
Published 7/1/2008 at The Sporting Blog
The Rays fans are sooo fired up about their first place team that they a) almost sold out game one of the team s biggest series, um, ever last night, b) they have an (un)official superfan. Meet the Cowbell Kid, who makes up with enthusiasm what he lacks in grammar ...

SONIC RAYS: The Rays have reason to be smiling on this morning and not just because of Evan Longoria's game-altering stop of Alex Cora's seventh-inning smash down the third-base line, which the super rookie turned from a potential game-tying double into an inning-ending out (and which, as you see above, earned him thanks from starting pitcher Matt Garza). Their confidence is growing almost by the minute (St. Petersburg Times) and they're beginning to treat their mounting success as nothing out of the ordinary. (Tampa Tribune)

Devil Ray Nation, Embracing the Cowbell Kid
Published 7/2/2008 by Will Brinson at FanHouse
Filed under: Rays, AL East, MLB Fans, MLB Video, Tampa BayHurry along now, people -- the bandwagon is almost full! Of course, it might not stay that way for long should the Rays stop winning (unlikely) or should the Cowbell Kid continue to beat a loud cowbell in the stands every night (seems likely). Here's the CBK wigging out on a Red Sox sign in the middle of a game. And after the jump, an interview with the Cowbell Kid, who has been a fan since the beginning of "Ray's time". Pretty convenient language if you ask ...
There's Nothing More Annoying Than A Rays Fan With A Cowbell [MLB Closer]
Published 7/2/2008 by Rick Chandler at Deadspin
OK, first of all, Cowbell Kid may seem pretty impressive when he's among his own in Tropicana Field, but I'd like to see him tearing down banners and clanging his bell at Fenway ... or Yankee Stadium, for that matter. Can Cowbell Kid win on the road? That's the question. As for the Rays, they've answered most of theirs. Tampa solved the mystery that is Tim Wakefield with a 3-1 win on Tuesday, moving their division lead over the Sox to a season-best 2 1/2 games. Orange juice for everyone! And now a couple of things before we move on. First, can we get rid of this? Nondescript carpet-remnant nightmare ...

Published 7/2/2008 by Anthony Hall at MVN Outsider
There’s a new sheriff in town in the AL East. I tell ya, Tampa Bay fans are getting a wee bit cocky about their squad’s lead over Boston in the division; as you’ll see, someone called “The Cowbell Kid” declared Red Sox Nation to be dead at a recent Rays game:
This is all a little difficult to comprehend: The Rays have…fans? Tropicana Field is…packed? People in Tampa are feeling…excited about the Rays? Tampa is…leading the AL East race?
In other baseball news, FanIQ points us to one of the ...
Less Cowbell

Y'know, I'm all for good team spirit -- loved Oakland's Left Field Bleacher Drummers -- and I'm happy that Ray Fan is having a good time, especially at Masshole Expense... but, um, folks? We need Less Cowbell. Honest. Will Ferrell is just one "Love Guru" sized turd away from getting put on the No Longer Even Remotely Funny list (right up there with Mssrs. Myers, Murphy, and over 95% of the people in this world who have has cashed an SNL paycheck). It's right up there with Thundersticks and the Tomahawk Chop in terms of meathead-esque behavior. It's played out. Besides, ...
