Empty Netter Assists - 11-09-09
Empty Netters — Penguins Note: Co-worker Dejan Kovacevic has offered his tremendous talents to this forum in order to cover the induction of our esteemed colleague, Dave Molinari, into the Hockey Hall of Fame today in Toronto. Be nice and he might just come back and play with us from time to time. -Kris Letang's (above) shoulder/arm will be looked at today.  -Introducing Deryk Engelland. -They're using Consol Energy Center for art n'at. -Penguins prospect Andy Bathgate set a franchise record for the OHL's Belleville Bulls by scoring three goals in ...

If You Have Any Experience at Center, Please Forward Your Résumé to the Rangers
The Sports Section — After starting the season with a mighty impressive 7–1 record, the Rangers have fallen back down to earth, winners of just three of their last ten games. But their bigger concern is what happened on Saturday night, when they ended a Western Canadian road trip by not only losing their second of three games, but by losing two of their four centers to injury. The first of the injuries came just 44 seconds into the game, when Chris Drury was blindsided by Calgary's Curtis Glencross — a hit that wasn't penalized, much to the dismay of Rangers coach John Tortorella. Watch the hit here and ...

Video: Rangers lose Drury; fans lose outrage over head hits?
Puck Daddy — Puck Buddy Keith sent this question over the weekend, regarding the hit by Curtis Glencross(notes) of the Calgary Flames on Chris Drury(notes) of the New York Rangers on Saturday: "Why is the Drury hit and injury being pretty much ignored? It has not gotten an ounce of the attention the head shots have gotten over the past few weeks. So, question is why the lack of coverage on this one?" Keith's not alone in asked where the outrage is over this hit, which gave Drury a concussion. (The Rangers are ...

Rangers lose centers Dubinsky and Drury in same game…Forsberg anyone?
NHL Snipers — Canes sign Manny Legace! | Main Rangers lose centers Dubinsky and Drury in same game…Forsberg anyone? By admin | November 9, 2009 Per NHL.com : Forget for a moment the 3-1 defeat in Calgary on Saturday night for the New York Rangers . That well-played game wasn’t nearly as costly as what happened to Chris Drury and Brandon Dubinsky in the contest. Both centers sustained injuries that may well keep them out of the lineup for some time. Drury was injured just 49 seconds into the game after being blindsided by Curtis Glencross . Drury was assisted off the ice and did not ...

Where's the Outrage Over Hit on Drury?
The New York Rangers Blog — That's what Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy wonders... But to speak to the original point: Where's the outrage? The lack of it for this debilitating hit on a very good player is, we think, twofold: 1. Aesthetics. This isn't a hit that went viral. The available video doesn't provide the gasp-worthy moments of the Mike Richards hit on David Booth or the Rob Scuderi cartwheel check on Jason Chimera. Drury walked woozily to the dressing room instead of leaving on a stretcher. Unfair as it is, it's the difference between a hockey injury and a moment of cultural ...

So Glencross Gets Three...
The Program — Well that was quick! Curtis Glencross has been suspended three games by the NHL for his hit on Chris Drury Saturday Night in Calgary. For a refresher course on the hit...we present to you the following video. Glencross pays for stupidity.... Really this could not have been any more cut and dry. Glencross clearly hits Drury who does not have the puck. It was not even close. The more I see this sort of thing...the more animated I get. How hard is it to ...

The Morning Skate: A Headshot Hearing, a Union Adrift and a Lot of Hurting
Slap Shot — TSN is reporting that the Flames’ Curtis Glencross has been suspended three games for this blindside head shot to Rangers captain Chris Drury: The hit went un-penalized, although interference would have been a correct call had the officials seen it. They didn’t, which is why the matter moved to the jurisdiction of the N.H.L. The usual justifications for a hit to the head — it’s a legitimate hockey play, the puckcarrier had to keep his head up, etc. — don’t stand up to scrutiny considering Drury didn’t have the puck and was not the intended recipient of Wade Redden’s pass. Glencross’s explanation could have been that he ...

Curtis Glencross suspended for hit on Chris Drury.
Goon's World — Former UAA Seawolve Curtis Glencross has been suspended by the NHL for three games for this hit on Former BU Terrier and New York Ranger Chris Drury. It seems like every day another person is taken out with a questionable hit to the head, it seems that the players have lost respect for their opponents. In this case it looks like Glencross was looking to hit Drury as he was skating across the blue line. Andrew Gross of Ranger rants believes that maybe the penalty should have been 5 games. The NHL has suspended Calgary Flames forward Curtis Glencross for ...

Suspension for this?
The Rat Trick | A Florida Panthers Blog — This hit by Calgary Flames forward Curtis Glenncross on the Ranger’s Chris Drury drew a 3 game suspension for Glencross. Take a look at this hit, and then look at the hit by Mike Richards again on David Booth below. Glenncross gets 3 games for his hit and Richards gets none. I am not here to debate whether the hits were clean, dirty etc. I am here to say that the NHL better take a real hard look at how they are determining what type of hit warrants a suspension and what type of hit does not. You judge for yourself. I’m curious as to your thoughts. Thanks for reading. Cheers

Roost News, Bye Week Thoughts, and Pirates, Oh My!
The Goose's Roost — by Ryan Just a few things about… everything. - Over the last few months I’ve become quite the phone nerd. My contract with Verizon was up and I looked long and hard for something that would last me another two years without becoming woefully inept like my last phone. After about six months of waiting, I finally got a new phone on Friday. Yes I bought a phone on launch day, and yes I’m a huge nerd. The good news is that I’m a very happy huge nerd. So far I’ve been blown away by the phone, and would reccomend it to anyone on Verizon. It’s no iPhone killer, ...

Apparently the NHL thinks this hit deserves a 3 game suspension. Does anyone really think this hit...
Litter Box Cats — Apparently the NHL thinks this hit deserves a 3 game suspension. Does anyone really think this hit is more worthy of supplemental discipline than the hit Richards laid on Booth? NHL discipline is obscene.

Glencross is Back. Look out Avs.
FanSided — Curits Glencross will be back for Tuesdays tilt against the Avalanche. Hopefully he has learned his lesson after that hit on Chris Drury that landed him with a 3 game suspension. He is better in the lineup then sitting in the press box. But if he hasn’t learned his lesson I have compiled an Avalanche hit list for him: Paul Stastny Wojtek Wolski Ryan O’Reilly Milan Hejduk Kyle Quincey David Jones Craig Anderson Not necessarily in that order I will let you decide as the game progresses.
