Basketball newbie here, but why is Darko considered the bad guy here?  Even the announcers point out that Mutombo's famous for his elbows & rough play.  Mutombo's never been cited as a choir boy.

Mutombo's long history of humanitarian aid and WWTSM t-shirts help to offset the teeth his elbows have knocked out.  Plus, he's probably older than Julio Franco at this point ... Darko was picking a fight with a senior citizen.

Also because Darko is basically a joke in the NBA after drafting so high (2nd overrall i think?) and really not doing anything at all.

Redsauce, this is part of it:

    http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/09/05/darkos-venemous-tirade/

Darko unleashes this ridiculous stream of Serbian language, and the US sports world spends the next several days trying to figure out what in the world he said. I think the final verdict was a death threat against the referees and their daughters.

Mutombo is no choir boy, to be sure, but at least he's accomplished a thing or two in his long career.

Darko Milicic strikes again
Published 3/3/2008 by Tobias at Ball in Europe
Darko Milicic strikes again Maybe Darko Milicic’s famous interview after the Eurobasket 2007 game scared the four Efes Pilsen players away - we don’t know. Maybe they thought everybody freaks out like Darko Milicic! Guess what - Darko kind of did it again . We haven’t heard anything of Darko lately. He is averaging 6.6 points and 6 rebounds per game - and now went head to head with Dikembe Mutombo (just in case you don’t follow the NBA that closely, yes this guy is still playing). Comments

Give Me The Rock » Day 123 of 170: Yao Ming Who?

Fun Stat of the Day: With their win last night, the Houston Rockets did not lose a basketball game in the month of February. Who is stepping up in the absence of Yao Ming? Tracy McGrady (4.3) hasn’t missed a beat, Shane Battier (3.7) and Dikembe Mutombo (3.1) both blocked 4 shots yesterday, and Luis Scola (3.7) and Rafer Alston (3.7) had all around solid games.

Yao Out For The Rest Of The Season
This is huge news considering how well he has been playing. He had a pretty good game against the Bulls when I watched it, and showed no signs of any injuries that required season ending surgery .
