Trash Talk, Momentum, and the Art of the Hold
Shakedownsports.com —
The Steelers were trailing 28-17. Cedric Wilson had just caught a pass that gave his team a first down at the Jags 14-yard line. There was only one thing the Jags could do. It was time for some trash talk.
Brian Williams, the man who made the tackle, started jawing with Wilson. Hines Ward then stepped into the fray and he and Williams went at it—Ward undoubtedly telling Williams the lead was slipping away, and Williams surely responding with some variation of “look at the scoreboard.”
It was at that moment I realized that trash-talking is the NFL’s version of a hockey fight. It has no rhyme or ...
Random YouTube Magic: Garrard's Game-Winning Scramble
FanHouse —
Filed under: Jaguars, Steelers, AFC North, NFL Playoffs, PittsburghThis isn't an easy video for Steelers fans to watch, but it's worth watching. If you're trying to find who to blame for David Garrard's long run on the key fourth and two late in Saturday's game, this gives you the chance to see. From my viewpoint, there were several problems, but the player who deserves the most blame is Brett Keisel. The draw was run through Keisel's gap, while he was driven two yards off the ball and taken to the ground. Obviously both inside linebackers inability to shed their blocks didn't help ...
Can You Count The Holds?
The Steel Pitt —
I am not usually one to criticise officiating, but when your team comes all the way back and loses with help from the refs there is something wrong there. You all can take a look at this video and see how many holds you can count on this play. It’s blatantly obvious that Casey Hampton was held and also pretty noticeable that Polamalu was latched onto. Here is the link and you tell me.
Garard Run
REF SHOULD HAVE FLAGGED GARRARD RUN
ProFootballTalk.com —
One of the most exciting plays of this year’s playoffs should have been called back because of a holding penalty. Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the NFL now acknowledges that Jaguars quarterback David Garrard’s 32-yard run on fourth-and-2 late in Jacksonville’s playoff win over the Steelers was aided by a block that should have been flagged for holding. Per Bouchette, VP of Officiating Mike Pereira admitted that the crew working the game ...

s2nblog.wordpress.com 1/10/2008 — Again, I realize that griping about ESPN is damn near laughable at this point, and almost kind of silly. But while watching First Take and flipping back and forth between that and Headline News, I caught something that has annoyed me to no end with ...
Patriots 31, Jaguars 20 - What We Learned
sportsofboston.com 1/13/2008 — David Garrard played outstanding, but Tom Brady had a game for the ages on Saturday. (Courtesy of NFL.com) Well the Patriots didn’t obliterate the Jags like many predicted (though I was only a TD away from a perfect prediction) but in the end the Pats were never really in danger of losing Saturday night.
Dinner and...a fedora? —
Projo Pats Blog
Kyle Brady won the chance to move on to the AFC title game with the New England Patriots last night, but he also won dinner on friend and former teammate David Garrard.
Brady said he and Garrard, the Jaguars’ quarterback, had a friendly wager on the game: the first dinner of the offseason would be on the loser. So Garrard and wife Mary will be picking up the tab when the Bradys migrate ...
Wow, I’m more impressed than ever —
Boston Brat
I just learned something incredible about Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard. Garrard suffers from the same miserable disease as my dad, Crohn’s disease.
In simple terms, Crohn’s disease affects one’s intestines. To put it in even simpler terms, it pretty much means diarrhea for life. Gross, I know. Crohn’s disease can kill you, but most likely it ...

JAGUARS 31 STEELERS 29 In a way, this was the perfect game...if you were making a team video of the 2007 Steelers. It captured the highs, the lows, the strengths and the faults of a moderately successful yet disappointing team in a 60-minute span. Ultimately, what did the Steelers in on Saturday were the same problems that have haunted them all year: An offensive line that surrendered ...
Garrard's Feet Spoil Comeback of the Century —
FanHouse
David Garrard couldn't win the game with his arm, so he won it with his feet. With less than two minutes left and his Jacksonville Jaguars facing a crucial 4th down & 2, Garrard found daylight and took off running for 32 yards, setting up Josh Scobee's game-winning field goal and giving the Jaguars a 31-29 playoff win over the Pittsburgh Steelers . Garrard's running made up for his ...
Kudos Jags, Boo AP —
Sportszilla and the Jabber Jocks
Be back soon with a Seahawks-Redskins wrap-up, but this note in the AP write-up for the Jags/Steelers game needed some attention:
But quarterback David Garrard, not a great runner, found a seam on a convert-or-else fourth-and-2 play and rambled 32 yards to the Steelers 11 with 1:56 left.

Jaguars 31, Steelers 29: A Furious Comeback Only Makes It Hurt Worse —

For one half, Ben Roethlisberger was the shaky, interception prone quarterback of the 2004 playoffs. For three and a half quarters, David Garrard didn't look any better. But in the fourth quarter, the NFL's No. 2 and No. 3 rated quarterbacks reminded us of why they are two of the best young quarterbacks in the game. Roethlisberger led the Steelers on a furious 18-point fourth quarter ...

It was as if they were doing a hokey square dance. Jack Del Rio would allemande left with Byron Leftwich. He would promenade home with David Garrard. He would do-si-do with both of them. Three hands up and 'round you go.
