Got to love the commish. He even had all the Blazers' player's ages memorized!

He had to be reading from a prompt for their ages, right? I liked that he came out and was honest about the homerism in broadcasting, pretty funny that the Commish is all over that. Nice find.

Haha ya, my bad, I didn't quite catch the '11' slipped in there. I wonder what he'd claim Yi's real age is?

Or maybe the age of that finger-wagging multi-linguist...we're all curious about that. Great history, by the way...

Pretty cool that he's able to step in and do that so seamlessly.

David Stern Not a Fan of Homer Announcers
FanHouse — ... Stern was in Portland yesterday, and as you can see, he was his usual acerbic self. He hit the nail on the head, though; it's ridiculous how over the top some homer announcers can be. It's one thing if you're a fan of the home team, but in this day and age of NBA League Pass where there's no rhyme or reason to which feed you get access to, it can be just plain annoying. NBA Wrap: Lakers stay hot, Suns get back on track, Spurs quietly win 10th straight
Hail Mary Jane — Lakers 117 - Kings 105 Last night in the Lakers game against their long time in state rivals the Kings, Kobe Bryant got a mixed reaction in Sac-town. Some of the crowd was booing him everytime he touched the ball but some of the crowd was also yelling “M-V-P!” I don’t know what he payed more attention too but he used it all as motivation to take over in the fourth quarter, as we’ve grown accustom to from him. He finished with 34 points but he scored 17 of those points in ridiculous fourth quarter performance that led the Lakers to the 117-105 win over the Kings. Pau Gasol also ...

David Stern Does Cannot Stand Homer Announcers Either
AwfulAnnouncing — One of the biggest pet peeves I have is when local announcers just go above and beyond the acceptable level of Homerism. It's not as bad in the NBA as other leagues, but David Stern seems to think so.... "Some night you should watch the same game on the two telecasts."- David Stern That's hilarious. I love how he just jumps all over the guy right away. David Stern broadcasts the Blazers (Odenized)

Stern Hates on Homers, Claims Oden Is 11 Years-Old
The Sporting Blog — By Chris Mottram Local NBA broadcasters are homers? Wizards' play-by-play man Steve Buckhantz has no idea what David Stern is talking about . I do always enjoy when we get to see that these chieftains actually have personalities and aren't just lifeless robots (although I'm fairly certain that Bud Selig is, in fact, the latter). And Stern almost, kinda made a funny there when he listed Greg Oden's age as 11. (HT: Odenized )

David Stern must watch a lot of Warriors games
Morning Buzz — NBA Commissioner David Stern was in Portland for the Suns-Blazers game last night when Shaquille O’Neal was the victim of a hard foul of the standard variety — at least to the guys doing the Blazers telecast. Stern asked, only half-jokingly as it turned out, “So was there a play for the ball there? You homers, you think that was a flagrant and the referees didn’t miss it? I’ll bet you on the Suns telecast going home, there’s a whole other story.” Sarcastic but true, and the man in charge had more on that topic when he was asked a follow-up question. He was observing the entire league and not singling out anybody. But I did quite a bit of ...

Finally! A Single Reason To Appreciate David Stern
SPORTSbyBROOKS — ODENIZED (via THE SPORTING BLOG ) has David Stern riffing on the Blazers telecast last night: Stern justifiably mocks homer announcers who embarrass themselves (and their teams) every night. He also breaks the news that Greg Oden is actually 11-years-old.

ESPN.com - TrueHoop — Oklahoma City voters vote overwhelmingly to raise and spend $121 million or so on arena upgrades and a practice facility for an NBA team to be named later, but likely named the SuperSonics. Steve Kerr tells ESPN's Chad Ford that the Suns have lacked a clear leadership structure among the players. More fallout from Dirk Nowitzki's takedown of Andrei Kirilenko. A mess of numbers in support of the notion that giving the open man the ball helps your team win. Also, from reading this I learned about the Prisoner's Dilemma. Very interesting. One thing worth adding to the mix of this conversation ...

Wait, Mike Rice is a homer?
Blazers Blog — This video's been around a little bit today, but it's worth a watch. David Stern sat in with the Mikes during last night's Blazers telecast and had some kind words for local sports broadcasters:

I Don't Totally Hate David Stern
Deceptively Quick — Sometimes I do. If you read this blog, chances are 99.9% that you've already seen this video (and 25% that you are in Finland, its true!). I'm posting it because 1) Stern makes a really good point thats not getting enough attention and 2) I'm lazy. The Blazer announcers are exactly what Stern is pointing out, which is something they're not happy to talk about. I enjoy our Mike & Mike a lot, but they are Trailblazer employees. At the end of the day they have a responsibility to tow the company line. Thats why we hear the constant company-spin, ...
