Suns Game Report + Exclusive David Stern Video
Published 3/5/2008 by Ben <info@blazersedge.com> at Blazer's Edge: Front Page Posts
Did James Jones draw the charge on Amare? Did Channing Frye really goaltend the ball? Woulda? Coulda? Shoulda? It was another frustrating night for the Blazers, filled with the kind of plays that make you stop the tape, analyze the replays, and wish they could be undone. Alas, we are stuck with the result: a 97 to 92 loss to the Phoenix Suns. ...
Northwest Sports: In the Morning
Published 3/5/2008 by Seth at Enjoy the Enjoyment
In the wake of Oklahoma City's overwhelming vote to fund upgrades to the Ford Center, David Stern once again discussed how dire it looks for the NBA in Seattle...calling the team we've lived and died with "Clay Bennett's asset." Blazers' Edge has video: The Washington 3A Boys and Girls basketball tournaments begin today with eight first round games in each. Usually I'd go for the full day, but magazine duties will keep me away...still, I'm hoping to make it to the West Seattle/Squalicum game at 9pm to see if West Seattle can extend its dream season. Best game of the ...
This Is What It Sounds Like When A Franchise Dies [Seattle Sonics]
Published 3/5/2008 by Leitch at Deadspin
Blazer's Edge brings us this video of NBA commissioner David Stern, officially killing off the Seattle Sonics franchise, and all the hopes of their fans. It's almost grueling to watch.
We missed Bill Simmons' impassioned work for Sonics fans while we were on vacation, but it's really pretty excellent stuff, and exactly what a national sports columnist should be doing with his platform. Not that anyone will notice, or do anything, or care.

Your Seattle (and New York, and Philadelphia, and Los Angeles) Assets
Published 3/5/2008 by Seth at Enjoy the Enjoyment
I haven't been able to get out of my mind the fact that, in this talk with reporters, David Stern refers to the Sonics as an "asset." Specifically, he says, referring to the Sonics, "Clay Bennett has an asset that he paid good money for." What frustrates me is how the NBA, and, really, all pro sports leagues, get to claim they are a business when it suits them, and something entirely different when it doesn't. When they are trying to get into the pockets of taxpayers, they are a cultural icon, a community rallying point, a source of pride and revenue. The NBA claims that its special status requires the ...
Microsoft CEO May Wind Up Saving The Seattle Supersonics
Published 3/6/2008 at FanIQ Blog
I know the Supersonics staying in Seattle has pretty much been given up for dead at this point. After all, David Stern more or less made that clear the other day.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and wireless magnate John Stanton are among the local Seattle investors behind an effort to buy the Sonics and cover half the cost of a $300 million KeyArena expansion to try to keep the team in Seattle.
Normally I'm against heartless corporations like Microsoft, but here I'll make an exception.
Here's what the Seattle Times had to say about the deal: ...
Sonics Doom
Published 7/3/2008 by Mac G (noreply@blogger.com) at Mac Gs World
I have no personal attachment to the Seattle Supersonics other than loving to play NBA Jam with Shawn Kemp and Detlef Schremp. Also, I enjoyed watching the "Glove" aka Gary Payton play lock down d and talk trash during his Sonics career. There is no sane reason that an American city with 3.2 million area residents and a 41 years history of fervent fan support should lose their basketball franchise to a city with 1.2 area residents and no track record of fan attendance other than a short run where the numbers were inflated due to cheap ticket prices. Once again the fans take one on the chin in ...
