In Defense of Dirk Nowitzki's Elbow
FanHouse —
by Tom Ziller Filed under: Jazz, Mavericks, NBA VideosOn Friday, Dirk Nowitzki was ejected from the Mavs-Jazz game after sending an elbow at Matt Harpring's grill. If you follow the league, you don't need to see the clip to know that Harpring deserved it: for the last five years, the dude's been one of the dirtiest players in the league. He picks fights with anyone and everyone. When people call Harpring the quintessential Jerry Sloan player, they mean that (like John Stockton and Karl Malone) Harpring constantly punches, elbows, bumps, trips and muscles his opponent. It's something you ...
Dirk Nowitzki Suspended One Game For Punching Matt Harpring
FanIQ Blog —
I hate Matt Harpring. The guy is without question the dirtiest player in the league. And on Friday, he was his usual jackass self, boxing out and pushing Dirk Nowitzki well after a made basket. So what did Dirk do? Why, he intentionally smacked Harpring in the face. In other words, Dirk lived the dream.
But the clip also contains bonus footage of Andrei Kirilenko getting back at Dirk.....by flopping like a rag doll to set Dirk off to such a degree that he got a tech for screaming at a ref over the lamest fould call in NBA history. By the way, Kirilenko has a long, long history of ...
Worst of the Weekend: The post-Christmas edition
Basketbawful —
The Chicago Bulls: It was a rather painful day-after-Christmas trip to Miami for the Bullies, who scored 77 points (their second-lowest scoring output of the season), shot 37 percent (their third-worst shooting effort of the season), had more turnovers (15) than assists (11) and managed only 13 points in the fourth quarter. It was their 13th loss in 16 road games. Oh, and according to the Yahoo! box score, Aaron Gray (12 points, 11 rebounds) was their top performer. And, uh, you're not going to get very far as a team when Aaron Gray is your top performer. I'm just sayin'. Derrick ...
Ballin’: English is LeBron’s Best Friend
The Big Lead —
Miami 86, Cleveland 93: There’s no longer a debate about Kobe v LeBron; it now is strictly LeBron v Jordan at the same age (23 and soon-to-be 24). Had it three times in the last week with relatives and other NBA fans, and everyone thinks this is the year LBJ gets his first title. LeBron is becoming a master defender - ask D Wade, who was shut down in the fourth as the Cavs rallied from nine down late to beat the Heat and capture victory No. 16 in a row at home. At 26-4, the Cavs are one game back of Boston for best record in the East.
Denver 117, ...
So Much for the NBA's Flop Crackdown
FanHouse —
by Tom Ziller Filed under: Jazz, Mavericks, NBA RefereesFirst, a retraction of sorts: on Sunday, I bemoaned the league's suspension of Dirk Nowitzki for his swing at Matt Harpring's face in Friday's Jazz-Mavs match-up. Rules are rules, and the league had to sit Dirk for a game. It was silly to suggest that ruling had been wrong. (I will not, however, back down from my statement that Harpring is ugly. And also, the opinion at the bottom of this Jazz Notes post regarding Dirk's potential reputation as a dirty player for having the temerity to fight back against the extremely, ...
