Don Cherry, Hot Pink Suits and Your Eyesight
Published 5/10/2008 by Kevin (noreply@blogger.com) at Barry Melrose Rocks
By the looks of it, the world is still spinning. That's if I could see right now. My eyes are still recovering from watching Don Cherry on Sportscenter last night. Cherry wore a hot pink suit, which jived nicely with John Buccigross' pink tie. ...

Straight From the “What the F*** Took So Long” Department…
Published 5/10/2008 by Mike at RANGERLAND.NET
Don Cherry made his debut on SportsCenter last night, and Buccigross could barely contain himself: In typical Coaches’ Corner fashion, the Dapper Don made a few salient points, mixed in with some incoherent ramblings about the Penguins and a not-so-subtle dig at the fancy Euro players in Detroit. Apparently, if you take Grapes’ word for it, the reason why the games aren’t selling out is because Detroit fans would rather watch Bob Probert and Joey Kocur than some of the most phenomenally gifted players in the game, like Pavel Datsyuk or Henrik Zetterberg. Good stuff. ...

Analysists Say Flyers Must Outscore, Outmuscle Penguins
Published 5/10/2008 by Matt Bodenschatz at Faceoff Factor
Analysists Say Flyers Must Outscore, Outmuscle Penguins Matt Bodenschatz | Pittsburgh Penguins May 10, 10:22 AM | Hype this story! They’re the kind of comments that are made generically throughout the season, the kind that really have no substance. But last night, when Brian Engblom emphatically announced on the Versus Network that the only way for the Philadelphia Flyers to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins is to outscore them, anyone with any hockey knowledge knew there was plenty of substance — stupidity. Sure, the Flyers may have scored 245 goals in the regular season to finish sixth in the league, five goals better than the Penguins, but ...

Top Shelf: Sweet suit, Don Cherry
Published 5/10/2008 by Patrick Imig at The Big Lead
Lee Diekemper is here for your hockey pleasure.  Don Cherry made his ESPN debut. His pearls of wisdom were not a shock: The Flyers didn’t rough up the Pens enough and the empty seats at Joe Louis Arena have nothing to do with the Detroit economy but everything to do with a lack of fighting. Meanwhile, on to last night’s game:

Don Cherry is a snazzy dresser
Published 5/10/2008 by houroc at SportFiends
Ok so I know we all usually appreciate the whilin outfits that Craig Sager wears but he’s got nothing on this cat from Canada, Don Cherry. He made his debut on ESPN this week to do hockey commentary and he didn’t say anything that anyone who has been following the playoffs doesn’t already know BUT he did come on wearing this… What was he thinking? I guess thats what they rock in Canada. I dunno. He also found time to insult all hockey town fans by calling Detroit a “Redneck town.” Now I’ve never been there but I imagine that they wouldn’t like that too much. ...

Don Cherry is Stylish
Published 5/11/2008 by Anthony Hall at MVN Outsider
Ladies and gentlemen, Craig Sager is officially irrelevant. We once thought that Sager epitomized bizarre fashion choices (click here to see why), but that is no longer the case…indeed, Don Cherry has arrived to American television. Cherry, a Canadian hockey commentator for CBC Television, is bringing his loud, outspoken analysis to ESPN for the remainder of the NHL playoffs — and, of course, he’s also bringing his snazzy style to The Worldwide Leader: (OK, can’t get the coding to work, so click here for the video) For those who managed to stop focusing on a suit that resembles my ...

Don Cherry on ESPN
Published 5/11/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Zanstorm) at Waiting For Stanley
Cherry continues to cater to the American hockey media and that's good. Check out this clip. Couldn't agree more with the guy with his analysis on almost all matters presented to him. But do you agree with his assessment on why there are empty seats in Detroit? Do you agree that it's because it's a redneck city and they want to see more "crashing and banging?" I don't have an opinion on the matter. T Tags: Don+Cherry ESPN NHL+Playoffs Video

ESPN edits Don Cherry's comments about disallowed goal
Published 5/12/2008 at Puck Daddy
Don Cherry's participation as a featured analyst on ESPN's SportsCenter has already paid dividends for the network. His diagnosis of the Detroit Red Wings' attendance problems -- that Detroit is a "redneck town" -- has earned him blogosphere scorn and a MSM smack down, with columnist Pat Caputo of the Daily Register claiming that Cherry's act "borders on bigotry." Cherry's first SportsCenter rant (video) had over 100 ESPN.com users voting on its quality and a slew more commenting on the controversy. So it was with great anticipation that we tuned in last night to see Cherry's ...

America, Meet Don Cherry
Canada’s most outspoken - and most oulandishly dressed - hockey talking head will have a regular gig on Sportscenter throughout the rest of the playoffs. I enjoy Cherry’s hard to follow tirades, so getting more airtime for the former coach is OK by me. Ron MacLean will be along too (most likely to keep him on the rails, not that it works on HNIC). NHL moves into semifinals; sports editors yawn
I've learned to keep tabs on this dude in Toronto for my TV hockey news, such as Don Cherry (!) contributing to ESPN. I could never get away with writing as much about hockey as they do in Toronto, of course.
