You probably are familiar with the Louisville-Duke lawsuit, but just as a refresher, let’s review. Last year, Duke decided to pull out of an agreement they held with Louisville for the two schools to play four football games against each other. The first game was in ’02 (Duke lost 40-3) and the final three games were to be held last season, this season and next season. Louisville filed a lawsuit against Duke, claiming it couldn’t find a "team of similar stature" as the Blue Devils to play the remaining three games against.

850 the Buzz found video of the infamous lawsuit Duke won by telling the judge they suck in football. As you might recall, Louisville sued Duke for canceling a football game with the Cardinals. One problem. The contract stipulated that Duke was liable for damages only if Louisville could not fill the date with a better opponent. The argument Duke made was they were the worst team in D-I football and anyone Louisville could have played would have fulfilled the requirement therefore absolving them of damages. The judge agreed. In June, the University of Louisville sued Duke University for breaking a contract after playing just one game of a scheduled four against each other. To buyout the contract, Duke would have had to pay $150K per game if a "team of similar stature" couldn't be found to replace them. But Duke argued that they were so bad, it would be impossible NOT to find another team to replace them.
