Conspiracy Theory? Refs Screw Up Call, Steelers Don’t Cover vs. Chargers
Larry Brown Sports —
So Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh the Steelers had just kicked a field goal taking an 11-10 lead on the Chargers. San Diego had one play left after the kickoff and decided to throw over the middle where they attempted to lateral their way up the field. That fun lasted for a few seconds before Troy Polamalu broke up one of the laterals, recovered it, and ran it in for a touchdown that made the score 17-10 Steelers at the final gun (watch the video here). Naturally I was pleased considering the Steelers were one of Doc Brown’s picks to cover the 5.5 spread. That fluke play would have given me the win and would have swung ...
Sorting the Sunday Pile, Week 11: Second-Rate Officiating Now Affecting Vegas
FanHouse —
by Ryan Wilson Filed under: NFL Fans, NFL Referees Sorting the Sunday Pile looks back at the NFL weekend that was. It's also an unofficial Mittens blog. We witnessed history in the making Sunday afternoon. Jeff Reed's last-second field goal to give the Steelers an 11-10 win over the Chargers is the first time in the history of the universe -- something like 12 million games -- that the final score of an NFL get-together has ended 11-10. Except for the part about the final score being 11-10. As you've probably seen by now, San Diego had time to run one offensive play ...
Fishy Call In Steelers Game Worth $64M To Vegas

Troy Polamalu touchdown called back.
Steelers Today - A Pittsburgh Steelers blog —
Anyone who watched the Steelers-Chargers game saw Troy Polamalu make a last second touchdown that would have made the final Score 18-10, and would have allowed the Steelers to cover the spread. Unfortunately, the referees didn’t quite understand the rules (or they were trying to manipulate the spread), because they called the play back. This made the final score 11-10, and prevented the Steelers from covering the spread.
The referees later said that they made a mistake, and that the touchdown should have counted. Here is the play for those of you who missed it. ...
Controversial Ending To Steelers Vs. Chargers Game
D Wizzle's World —
This screw-up by the ref cost bettors millions of dollars while Vegas and bookies make a boatload of money on all the bettors who took Pittsburgh to cover over San Diego. The spread was Pittsburgh -4 or -5 depending on where you got your line at. ...
Pittsburgh-San Diego: The NFL Pledges Allegiance to Its True Constituency
Sports On My Mind —
Worst officiated game this season, by far. I was wondering why the officials were hating on my Steelers. There was no forward lateral. I watched the replays over and over, and at no point did anyone forward lateral. I could see the NFL coming back in a couple of days and reversing that decision and giving the Steelers the extra 6 points. If not for the disparities in penalties, Pittsburgh would have won the game by a wide margin. A couple of plays before when Willie Parker seemingly ran in for a touchdown, there was a holding call. Yes, it was holding, but a pretty weak call considering some of the calls that the officials swallow their whistles on. Hines Ward has ...

Signal to Noise —
(Highlight found at Sports on My Mind.)
….the NFL might be the one you call on, your candyman, the one who gives you more and more, if you’re Vegas. A 3.5 point spread in the Steelers’ favor, a last second touchdown on desperation laterals. 17-10 or 18-10, until the replay booth upstairs decided ...
NFL’s Fight Preventing Legal Sports Betting Raises Questions
Free Sports Picks & Sports Handicapping Blog —
The National Football League along with the NCAA and the other professional sports leagues in the United States have filed suit against the state of Delaware (on July 24, 2009) to prevent legal sports betting from taking place. The state of Delaware had passed a law (on May 12, 2009) giving the state the right to allow and accept legal sports wagers. The law’s affect would make Delaware the 4th state in the U.S. to allow legal wagering on major sporting events. However, the NFL has led other sports organizations in legal battles opposing the state Delaware’s legislation. The NFL claims that sports betting “would irreparably harm professional ...
