BCS National Championship Game: Major Wright Nearly Decapitates Manny Johnson
FanHouse —
by Chris Burke Filed under: Florida, Oklahoma, BCS, Bowl Games It took all of a minute for the BCS National Championship's biggest hit award to be claimed by Florida safety Major Wright. On Oklahoma's third play from scrimmage, Sam Bradford tried to hit Manny Johnson on a deep route down the left sideline. Bradford laid a nice pass in to Johnson -- but the ball got there at almost the exact instance that Wright came flying over and absolutely demolished Johnson, forcing an incompletion. Wright later picked off Bradford just before ...
Video: Major Wright Major Hit on Manny Johnson in First Quarter
Larry Brown Sports —
I’d like to say this hit set the tone for the game but that really wouldn’t be accurate considering it wasn’t much of a hard-hitting contest. Instead, I’ll just be satisfied to say this was probably the hardest hit of the game. Florida safety Major Wright displayed exquisite timing on this play when he crushed Oklahoma receiver Manny Johnson as soon as the ball was coming down. Let’s go to the video:
That was only like two minutes into the game. Other than that it was more of a cat and mouse type of thing ...

Headlinin': Tennessee just wants to make things right
Dr. Saturday —
• So come on out and give this bum a round of applause. Usually, firings are contentious and warrant a clean, mutual break. But Tennessee's relationship with Phil Fulmer since canning him last November has been more complicated -- and confusingly conciliatory: The school quickly furnished Fulmer with an office in the athletic complex and a nice salary as an "assistant to the president"; he was made grand marshal of the surprisingly large "Mule Day" parade (where we he and his wife were subsequently heckled, above, in what must be pretty common fashion even their home ...
