When Emmitt talks, the nation listens
Uwe Blog —
Former Dallas Cowboys running back and wordsmith Emmitt Smith spoke at presdential candidate Barack Obama's rally in Dallas yesterday. Why does it seem he was going to walk away from the podium after every line? "We are for real and we plan on getting back to the top!"
Emmitt Smith on Barack Obama
COSELLOUT: Still Tellin' It Like It Is —
ESPN’s Jeff Pearlman wrote an article this week on voter apathy amongst athletes (hat tip to Signal to Noise ). Pearlman interviewed players on the Texas Rangers… however, he did not interview Emmitt Smith. In this Obama-introductory hype job by Emmitt, his conviction shines. Whatever the exact opposite of "apathetic" is, Emmitt’s got it. And he obviously doesn’t care if Republicans buy throwback jerseys, too. Hat tip to The Black Quarterback (via Awful Announcing ) on the video. Since Pearlman has a history of writing about how mindless athletes are, here’s to hoping a future column champions some of our more politically active athletes and ...
Emmitt Smith Got Blowed Up
JoeSportsFan.com —
Emmitt need say bye-bye to Sunday NFL Countdown and hello to less work. He'll follow the path trailblazed by Steve Young for crappy on-air analysts banished from Sundays to Monday night coverage. Perhaps Smith will weasel his own stupid segment for Sundays a la Steve's "Young is Restless". In fact, that's a good idea. We'll call it, "Emmitt is Blowed Up".
In place of the one with the odd looking beard, Cris Carter will succeed him taking the Sunday NFL Countdown lineup to Chris Berman (love that guy), Mike Ditka, Carter, Tom Jackson, Keyshawn Johnson, and Chris Mortensen. That will be followed by MNF coverage hosted by the same six guys, plus Stu ...
ESPN’s NFL Coverage to Feature Less Emmitt Smith
The Big Lead —
Schadenfreude alert: In an effort to make NFL Countdown watchable again, ESPN has booted the Bristol Butcher, Emmitt Smith, from the show in favor of newbie Cris Carter. The leading rusher in NFL history/quote machine has also been “reassigned” to provide NFL banter on Sunday morning Sportscenter, where he’ll share the spotlight with seasoned TV vets Bob Ley and Hannah Storm, and he won’t be as prominently featured on MNF as he was last season. Less speaking is most likely going to result in fewer criticisms. Maybe.

The Best Sentiment On The New President Elect Came From, Wait....Michael Irvin?
AwfulAnnouncing —
There something about Obama that brings out great things in people. A while back it was an eloquent speech from Emmitt Smith, and now Michael Irvin is the one putting things into perspective. The former ESPN analyst was on Mike and Mike this morning and he had the following to say about last night. Via Fanhouse.... "What a historical moment that was last night. ... From an African-American standpoint, I watched my people -- watched my people -- celebrate the not guilty verdict of O.J. Simpson. They were so hungry for a victory of some kind that they celebrated -- we celebrated -- the verdict of O.J. And I was thinking to myself, 'Two ...
