Earlier this week Hank Steinbrenner said what a lot of us have been thinking as Congress continues to make baseball pay the price for dragging its feet on drug testing for so many years. The new Boss called out the NFL for being “tailor-made for performance-enhancing drugs. I don’t know how they managed to skate by. It irritates me. Don’t tell me it’s not more prevalent. The number in football is at least twice as many. Look at the speed and size of those players.” Continued Hank: “A lot of baseball people thought that baseball would be the last sport that it ...

Tonight I watched a classic show on the HBO Comedy Channel, "George Carlin On Campus" from 1984. Carlin has always been one of my favorite comedians, and George is terrific in this comedy classic. He's done numerous HBO specials, and this is absolutely one of his best. This special includes one of my favorite bits of his, about the difference between baseball and football. Great stuff, and in it football is very warlike while baseball is more pastoral. I couldn't find the actual bit from "On Campus," but I did find this from a concert he did in 1990. This has not been the worst month in Blue Jays history - they didn't win any games at all in June 1981, and that was only partially because that year's strike arrived after they'd put together an 0-10 mark for the month. But it's been a while. Since they got over their expansion beginnings, the worst month by any Blue Jays team was the 7-21 mark posted by the 1995 team in September. George Karlin Sports Tribute, George Karlin Dies at 71. Anyone that knows me knows that I love sports and comedy. George Karlin was very funny. Please do not obsess over his language. That was not the man. The comedy was who he was. The language was his tool. Please notice the next “Safe For Work” Video. He goes on a five minute rant about Baseball and Football. He is flat out funny and does not swear once. Thanks for the memories George. Please enjoy this, George Karlin Sports Tribute, George ...

George Carlin passed away (or "died" as he probably would prefer it to be said) yesterday at the age of 71. I missed out on a lot of the cultural significance of Carlin's work, but he was pretty damn funny - I especially like his appearance in Dogma , where he introduced Buddy Christ. One of his favorite bits of mine was about the differences between baseball and football. So long George - I imagine you're looking up at us with contempt right now.

Last Thursday, The Realist left a critical comment regarding David Perno’s stewardship of the Georgia baseball program.
