Gus Johnson Calls Chris Johson’s Touchdown
Intentional Foul —
Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson was a beast against the Jacksonville Jaguars yesterday. 24 carries for 228 yards and two touchdowns has a way of receiving such a designation, not to mention doing so during the team’s first win of the season. However, during one of Johnson’s touchdown scampers, CBS play-by-play ace, Gus Johnson, made a questionable comparison of Johnson’s blazing speed.
“Watch out! He’s got ‘getting away from the cops’ speed.”
Now, while I find such a phrase worthy of a ...

Gus Johnson: “He’s Got Getting Away From Cop Speed”
Total Pro Sports —
He was there in week one when Brandon Stokley made an unbelievable play in the dying moments to help his Denver Broncos pull off the unthinkable against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was there in week two when Chris Johnson ran wild on the Houston Texans’ defense. There seems to be something abut Gus Johnson that attracts the big play.
Week eight was no different as Gus was calling the running back battle between Chris Johnson and Maurice Jones-Drew, but unfortunately his trademark exuberance may have got him into a bit of ...
Gus Johnson Apologizes
Intentional Foul —
We’ve all heard Gus Johnson’s “controversial” call of Chris Johnson’s 52-yard scamper by now, and apparently, at least somebody was predictably offended. As I mentioned in the comments of the initial post, the level of PC-itude in the US almost dictates such a followup from Johnson. Oddly enough, the best play-by-play man in broadcasting — Sorry, that’s not an opinion. It’s a fact. — used a similar analogy as I did in his apology; although, he wasn’t quite as colorful as I was. Damn ...
Gus Johnson sorry for 'Getting-away-from-the-cops speed' remark
Shutdown Corner —
Tennessee running back Chris Johnson broke a 52-yard touchdown run on Sunday,
which is the kind of thing you can't do without excellent foot speed. That kind
of speed, Gus Johnson calls "Gettin' away from the cops" speed.
As you might imagine, Gus took some criticism for the comment. Consequently,
he has apologized:
"If there is a perception of racism in this analogy, it is not coming
from me. People of all races have run from the law. However, to those who are
offended, I apologize."
Gus is right, I guess. Have you ever seen ...
Want To Get Away? Gus Johnson Sorry For Gaffe
SPORTSbyBROOKS —
Gus Johnson had only just gotten over Brandon Stokley’s deflected TD reception against the Eagles when a controversy arose surrounding his interesting choice of words during the Jaguars-Titans game on Sunday. In calling a Chris Johnson touchdown run, Gus said that the Titans running back had “getting-away-from-the-cops speed!” Whoops.
Gus Johnson is very sorry. And he said so today.
(Wait, isn’t it the Bengals who are usually running from the cops?)
Video following the jump. ...
