Dirk Nowitzki loses sound in his crappy earpiece during an interview with Mark Followill and Brad Davis. Make sure you listen to the ENTIRE clip. Right, it's a reference to the bus the handicapped kids ride to school.

Dirk undoubtedly picked that up from his teammates, but the question is: does he know he's making fun of the mentally challenged on air? My guess is no, which makes it amazing.

Dirk Nowitzki Is a Hysterical Play-By-Play Announcer -- Heads Up Reggie
Published 3/26/2008 by Will Brinson at FanHouse
Filed under: Mavericks, Western, NBA Media Watch, NBA Videos, DallasI'm throughly convinced, following all of Gilbert Arenas' off, and side of, court antics this season, that NBA players need to spend a couple of games on the bench and miked up every season. They are vastly entertaining. Dirk Nowitzki is your latest sideline hilarity machine, as he gives FSN a interview from the Mavericks bench, via Odenized, natch. The first part where his earpiece stops working is funny, but the end (4:10 in) is absolutely hilarious -- the earpiece fails again and he just takes play-by-play over, dropping a ...

Dirk Nowitzki Should Consider An Announcing Career
Published 3/26/2008 by Anthony Hall at MVN Outsider
At first glance, this interview with the injured Dirk Nowitzki during the recent Mavs-Clippers game seemed doomed to become a cringe-worthy portion of the evening’s broadcast. Dirk’s earpiece wasn’t working properly, and he was having trouble communicating with the announcers. Then, however, things took a sudden turn and television gold was created…out of nowhere, Dirk started to do the play-by-play work as the third quarter came to a close. Take a look (Dirk starts handling the announcing duties at the -1:30 mark): I think we should make it official: “Short bus!” just became the coolest insult to ...

Dirk Calls Play-By-Play, Breaks Out 'Short Bus'
Published 3/26/2008 at The Sporting Blog
By Chris Mottram Before we get into this clip, why oh why, do live telecasts insist on attempting to do interviews while the game is going on ? Announcers are there to call the action in front of them, as far as I understand, so let's just stick to that. Interview guys during halftime or after the game. Having said all that, when these interviews go horribly wrong (see: earpiece malfunctions), it can lead to solid gold, as was the case last night with Dirk Nowitzki. Real goodness kicks in about four minutes in: Did he really say "short bus" when Corey Maggette took the last shot of the half? I'm going to chalk this one up to lost in translation, and assume Dirk has ...

Dirk Nowitzki Tries His Hand at Announcing, Will Be Replacing Billy Packer this Weekend
Published 3/26/2008 at FanIQ Blog
Dirk Nowitzki is going to be a little bored over the next two weeks sitting on the bench, so last night he joined the Mavericks FSN team for a few minutes. Most of the discussion revolves around his health, and it's all very funny, but if you're pressed for time jumped forward to the 4:10 point on the video. "He swings it ... and Brandon Bass is going to make a BUCKET!!" Riveting. In fact, I'd like for him to join Jim Nantz this weekend as that's more insight then we've heard from his partner. Say Billy, how about the ACC's #1 conference RPI rating or was that just ...

Dirk Nowitzki with the play-by-play call
Published 3/26/2008 at Ball Don't Lie
For years, I've told anyone who would listen -- mom, grandpa, the guy at the concierge desk -- that Dirk Nowitzki is, by far, the funniest player in the NBA. (Sorry, Shaq.) The video of Dirk squashing a bug at the '06 Finals is still comedy gold, as is the footage of him dancing to the Stones. You can just tell he's a naturally funny dude. The latest proof: Nowitzki, mic'd up with a faulty ear-piece, on the FSN play-by-play call: Yes, he yelled "short bus" after Corey Maggette's missed jumper. Yes he did. (via Odenized)

Dirk Nowitzki as a play by play announcer??
Published 3/27/2008 by houroc at SportFiends.com
Ok so since Dirk Nowitzki went down with an injury he’s had a lot of time on his hands.  Apparently he’s tryin to get his Bryant Gumbel on by being an play by play guy.  He sounds like a mixture between Bill Walton and David Hasselhoff.  It might work for him though, I mean he’s already proven that he can’t lead a team to an NBA title so he’s gotta figure out something else to do to pay the bills.   Tags: dirk nowitzki, bryant gumbel, david ...
