PrepChamps BOOM! that was a sick block. -
Kamellian17 That was an awesome hit by Ward on Rivers....if you watch the video closely, Hine's helmet hits Rivers on the left shoulder with initial contact, then the helmet slid up......Hines Ward better not get fined for that totally LEGAL hit!!!!! To be honest, i think Rivers broke his jaw when he hit the ground, maybe it was on the hit, but even if so....the hit was legal. -
AEM On the "legal" or not, I agree. The one thing that I have a serious problem with these fines and (even more) the instant replays is this. Can they make a rule that when something happens and the call is being reviewed the commentators do not make a case on whether or not the call should be overturned or not. Just like these type of hits, let it go and let the NFL decide and not keep talking about it, because I believe they put the pressure on to make a call or not.

Keith Rivers is "probably" done for the season
Cincy Jungle —
During the super-close game that required a late fourth quarter 16-yard touchdown pass to Hines Ward from Byron Leftwich at the two minute mark, the Bengals' Keith Rivers had been absent from the game. On the fourth play of the game, Ben Roethlisberger completed a short six-yard pass to the right for tight end Matt Spaeth. Rivers, in a zone closer to the middle of the field, started tracking Spaeth when Ward came back to stick Rivers, breaking his jaw. Hines hit Rivers, who wasn't looking at him, preparing for a tackle on Spaeth.
Rivers is out for the season.
Ward doesn't know what anyone is talking about regarding the hit being illegal. ...
Bengals' Keith Rivers Out for Season After Brutal Hit From Steelers' Hines Ward
FanHouse —
Filed under: Bengals, Steelers, NFL VideoTV announcers frequently point to plays when a wide receiver takes on a linebacker and refer to them as mismatches. What they usually mean is that a wide receiver is too fast for a linebacker, but in the case of Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward taking on Bengals linebacker Keith Rivers, it was a mismatch in the sense that Ward drilled Rivers, who never knew what hit him: Rivers is reportedly out for the season with a broken jaw. Ward has been fined twice this season for hits that the NFL deemed unnecessarily rough, but ...
Hines Ward crushes Keith Rivers. Is he getting fined?
postgameheroes.com —
Week 7 Picks…. | Home Hines Ward crushes Keith Rivers. Is he getting fined? By Dagger | October 19, 2008 Keith Rivers broke his jaw on the play and is out for the remainder of the season. Ward has been fined $15,000 over the past week for “unnecessary roughness”. So what do you think of this hit? It looks clean to me but could the NFL call Ward for any of the following: 1. Hitting with the crown of the helmet (maybe helmet on jaw?….looks like a shoulder to me though…) 2. Not seen in this clip but Ward celebrates a little after the hit. *Remember that one of the fines Ward received last week was due to his “post-play celebration” after ...

I Hate You Hines Ward

Keith Rivers is on my fantasy team.
Keith Rivers scores a lot of points for me.

Hines Ward Big Hit On Keith Rivers, Knocks Bengals' Linebacker Out For Season With Broken Jaw
FanIQ Blog —
Because it's so infrequent that a wide receiver is physical enough to block downfield, I love when the NFL's showcase players get down and dirty. The WR position in the league is filled with pre-madonna's who are more concerned with their inevitable touchdown dance instead of fulfilling their blocking duties on 99% of plays called.
Thus, Hines Ward is one of my favorite players in the NFL. This hit is one of the best examples. He lights up Bengals' linebacker Keith Rivers.
Unfortunately, Rivers broke his jaw on the play, but Ward was just doing his job. So be it. Dude got jacked ...
We Really Couldn't Have Asked for Much Moore...
One For The Other Thumb —
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that picture has very little to do with what happened in Cincinnati yesterday. It is, however, fun for me to look at. And frankly, that's enough. Well friends, thankfully I think this is the first time since Week 1 that I don't have to write - "it wasn't pretty, but a win is a win." Whereas our last three wins were achieved by an average margin of 4 points, yesterday we enjoyed a slightly more favorable differential of 28 points! Yeah, we destroyed them. I particularly liked the part where MEWELDE MOORE had THREE TOUCHDOWNS. Let me repeat that. MEWELDE MOORE had THREE ...

Hines Ward knocks Keith Rivers out for a year
Sports Crackle Pop —
I definitely don’t want to get on Hines Ward’s bad side. He knocks people into next week. And if you are the Cincinnati Bengals rookie Keith Rivers you get knocked out until next year.

Will Hines Get Fined Again?
Intentional Foul —
Last week, Troy Polamalu made the news when he lambasted the NFL for its hair-trigger fine policy. A big part of Polamalu’s complaint had to do with fines Hines Ward received for laying some crushing blocks, none of which warranted an in-game penalty. After yesterday’s game against the hapless Bengals, it looks like the NFL might have some more ammunition to use against one of the best blocking receivers in the league.
Just ask Cincinnati linebacker Keith Rivers:

Hines Ward with a huge hit on Keith Rivers
Walker Sports —
Hines Ward has a reputation as one of the hardest hitting receivers in football. Sunday afternoon against the lowly Cincinnati Bengals, he lived up to that reputation. Keith Rivers was absolutely destroyed on this play. He is likely out the rest of the season while he heals his wounds. But then again, if you're a ...

Video of the latest Hines Ward crack-back block from hell from this week’s Steelers/Bengals game via Mondesi’s House.
This is a clean hit, which means Hines (or Hine Wards as Kevin Harlan likes to call him) will probably end up with another $15k fine for it.
Ward’s the perfect agitator. You love him when he’s on your team, while the rest of the world hates him.

The Ravens put a bounty on Hines Ward and Rashard Mendenhall
Shutdown Corner —
There has been a lot of discussion the past two weeks about whether Steelers receiver Hines Ward should be considered a dirty player after the 11-year veteran was fined by the league for hits he made against the Ravens and Jaguars, neither of which were penalized by an official at the time. The discourse got more intense after Ward ended Bengals rookie linebacker Keith Rivers' season with a blindside block that broke Rivers' jaw this past Sunday in Cincinnati. No matter what you think of Hines, you're probably safe in assuming his physical style of play has earned him more than his share of enemies throughout the league. Enough so that ...
Keith Rivers, Talking Through His Teeth, Says Hines Ward Will 'Reap What He Sows'
FanHouse —
Filed under: Bengals, Steelers, AFC North It's been almost two weeks since Hines Ward prematurely ended Bengals' linebacker Keith Rivers rookie season. On the fourth play of the Week 7 game, the Steelers wide receiver plastered Rivers, breaking his jaw in the process. The hit was legal -- so legal, in fact, that the league didn't even send Ward an invoice. Since the incident, Bengals players have both ripped and supported Ward, who admitted he felt bad for Rivers, even asking Chad Johnson to pass along his apologies for hurting him. After the game, safety ...
Just About Everybody Hines Ward Doesn't Knock Silly Appreciates How He Plays
FanHouse —
by Ryan Wilson Filed under: Bengals, Steelers, AFC North, NFL Fans Hines Ward has been in the NFL for 11 years, and for most of that time, he's been known as a gritty, hard-working wide receiver and, more than that, a tenacious blocker. So it should be hardly worth noting when he legally plants an unsuspecting defender on his ass since, you know, it happens a half-dozen times a year. Yet, every season, a small subset of folks decry Ward's tactics as dirty, over the line, so on and so forth. His latest victim (see above), Bengals rookie ...

RIVERS GOT 50TH VOTE, SOMEHOW

The AP report announcing that Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo is the 2008 defensive rookie of the year mentioned that Mayo received 49 of the 50 votes. IX- According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Hines Ward had surgery on his shoulder this week. I guess that hit on Keith Rivers hurt Hines more than we initially thought.

HINES WARD GOT HIS OWN RULE
Mondesi's House —
Joining the likes of Mel Blount, Roy Williams, and Tom Brady, Hines Ward became the latest player to get a rule unofficially named in his honor, as the NFL announced they are outlawing blind-side blocks to the head of a defender using his helmet, forearm or shoulder. This comes as a knee-jerk reaction to Ward's hit on the Bengals' ...
Checking In With Jim Caldwell From The Owners Meetings
Sports Radio Interviews —
It’s going to be strange not seeing Tony Dungy with his calm, stoic demeanor on the sidelines when the Colts take to the field next year. In his place will be the more demonstrative Jim Caldwell, who took over when Dungy resigned in February. Let’s hear how things are going for the first-year head coach as the NFL Draft looms ever closer.
Caldwell’s comments on the main things being discussed at the NFL Owner’s Meetings this week out in California:
“The Overtime rule which we don’t anticipate there will be any change there but it’s being examined and examined closely. ...
5 Great Ideas For This Season's Edition Of HBO's "Hard Knocks"
No Guts, No Glory —
In a move that depicts the title perfectly, HBO is set make the Cincinnati Bengals the subjects for the 2009 season of "Hard Knocks". And just in case they make it here before shooting begins, I'll supply them (and you) with my suggestions free of charge. Next season I'm expecting straight cash homey. Chronicle the daily care of Chad Ocho Cinco's grill Daily grill cleaning is both interesting and educational. I'm sure there's a dude out there somewhere wondering how Ocho Cinco's ...
