Classy Caps Fans Aren't That Big on Jeff Carter
Every Facet of the Game — I'm sure not all of the Washington Capitals fans are classless idiots. But each and every team has their fair share. A handful of Canadien fans last night showed that even our friendly neighbors from the north have a few that get out of hand after they themselves have had a few. And in DC tonight following Joffrey Lupul's series winning overtime goal the hometown fans were somewhat discontent. Looking to channel this discontent into something positive, they littered their home ice with trash and beer bottles. Apparently they aren't big Earth Day fans. ...

This Bud's for you, Jeff Carter
Puck Daddy — If there's been one absolute point of pride for the Washington Capitals this postseason, it's been the fanatical support of their long-suffering fans. They showed up in great numbers through the team's improbable playoff run, drenched from head to toe in red. Some clipped their hair into a crazy Mike Green faux-hawk. Collectively, they reinforced D.C. as a hockey town, even with the Wizards playing LeBron in the first round of those other arena-based playoffs. All of that said, it was rather embarrassing to see those same fans litter the ice with rally rags, food, beer and whatever containers had housed said beer after the ...

Washington Capitals Fan Handles Loss Well, Throws Beer Bottle at Flyers Forward Jeff Carter
FanIQ Blog — I realize it must be devastating to have exciting hockey return to your home town and to watch your team lose a game seven in overtime. I'm not even an NHL fan and I was a little disappointed I wouldn't be watching Alexander Ovechkin again until next season. Even worse, the loss came to Philly. I'm with you, classless hockey fan, on all of this. However, I'm not with you on throwing a bottle at any opposing player's face. Maybe, just maybe, if his name ends in Ginobili, but even that's uncalled for. Witness above as Flyers forward Jeff Carter takes a beer bottle (presumably plastic) to the side of the ...

Caps Fans Go Out in Style
D.C. Sports Bog — Caps Fans Go Out in Style Since a lot of words have been said about Philly fans in recent days, it's probably worth mentioning that, despite Ted Leonsis's comment about how proud he was of the Caps fans in defeat, the post-game scene in the arena last night wasn't necessarily a shining beacon of classiness. Were there thousands who stood and clapped and engaged in some "Let's Go Caps" horn tootin' thanks? Absolutely, but there are also thousands of Flyers fans who didn't make a spectacle of themselves this week. "Sorry to say it, but you can't keep pulling that high road crap anymore," wrote a Flyers fan ...

CAPITALS FANS HANDLED THE LOSS WELL
With Leather - Sports news and gossip, panda sex, and the occasional Toonces the driving cat Photoshop — The Flyers turned away the Caps' effort to come back from a 3-1 series deficit, stealing Game 7 in D.C. with a 3-2 overtime win.  And Flyers forward Jeff Carter got a taste of one D.C. fan's ire when a bottle chucked from the stands hit him in the face after the game.  Looks like it was just an empty plastic bottle, though, so the nation's capital still has a way to go before it can compete with the City of Brotherly Love-Beatings.  In Philly that would have been a glass bottle.  Filled with urine.  Wrapped in barbed wire.  And set on fire.  Fired from a makeshift ...

Whatever
Top Shelf — "To have the referee decide the series like that, with two teams battling like that, is tough to swallow. I definitely didn't think it was a penalty." That's Tom Poti who was called for tripping in overtime of last night's Washington-Philly game. To him I say, dude, whatever. You tripped a guy. I don't care how long it's been since the last penalty was called, you tripped a guy. The rule still exists and you should still know better than to do it in overtime of Game 7 of the playoffs. The refs didn't have anything to do with the fact that your team failed to kill the penalty, didn't score more goals during regulation, or didn't ...

"New" Capitals Fans Need Lesson in History, Hockey, and Class
Faceoff Factor — "New" Capitals Fans Need Lesson in History, Hockey, and Class Zach Boslett | National Hockey League May 10, 09:44 PM | Hype this story! —The next person you see wearing an Alexander Ovechkin jersey/shirt/hat I want you to ask him what he thinks of Sergei Gonchar. Odds are you’ll get one of two responses: 1. “The Penguin scum that got run over by Ovechkin? He’s overrated and Mike Green is so much better than him.” 2. “The former Capital defensemen and perennial All Star? Boy he’d look good on the power play with Mike Green. Too bad he’s a Penguin now.” The first one represents the new generation of Capital fans that have adopted the ...

In defense of fans throwing trash on the ice in protest
Puck Daddy — Besides offering stellar playoff intensity, Saturday night's Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks vs. Vancouver Canucks games shared another commonality: the hometown fans hurling garbage on the ice in protest of perceived injustice. In Vancouver, the fans littered the ice on at least three occasions late in the Game 5 loss, after referees whistled Kevin Bieksa(notes) and Ryan Kesler(notes) for critical penalties. Ian McIntyre of the Vancouver Sun took them to task: Clearly, no fans in the neighborhood of ...
