Griffin Got Flipped, Too
Intentional Foul —
The Hoop Doctors were quick with this one. For all his first half efforts, Blake Griffin got tangled up with Morgan State’s Ameer Ali, who decided he’d do his best DeJuan Blair/Hasheem Thabeet reenactment by pulling Griffin over by the arm. For his efforts, Ali was asked to finish the game in the locker room.
The lesson being, don’t try and manhandle the Player of the Year — especially if you are in the process of getting crushed by him and his team.

Morgan State Player Uses Blake Griffin in Remake of Blair-Thabeet Flip
FanHouse —
by Chas Rich Filed under: Big 12, MEAC, Tourney Video, South RegionMorgan State forward Ameer Ali, apparently watched too many replays of DeJuan Blair grabbing a rebound and taking Hasheem Thabeet right over his back. Ali, however, did not have the ball. Oklahoma was off and running with it. He did, however, have Blake Griffin in the vicinity. Ali decided to make a name for himself by showing he could flip Griffin in a bush league move that got him ejected. Morgan State Player Uses Blake Griffin in Remake of ...
Video: Blake Griffin gets flipped during NCAA Tournament
tonyblogs.net —
I don't know about you guys but I haven't seen a move this fundamentally sound since Bret Hart was still in the World Wrestling Federation. Ameer Ali of Morgan State pulled off the nice arm-bar takedown on Oklahoma's Blake Griffin during the first round of the NCAA Tournament Thursday night after the two got tangled. Ali was ejected. ...
Video: Blake Griffin Gets Flipped
You Been Blinded - Now in Dazzling HD —
When you’re the 15-seeded team being lead to the proverbial slaughter in a first round match-up with the two-seed, you pray for the best and hope God answers your begging with a Hampton over Iowa St. type victory.
If that doesn’t work, you can go out like Morgan State forward Ameer Ali who flipped Blake Griffin of Oklahoma and was then sent to the showers. ...
Worst of the Night: March 19, 2009
Basketbawful —
Ameer Ali: I'm not big on including NCAA stuff here, but sometimes I have to make an exception. Like in the case of Ali. His team (Morgan State) was in the process of getting blown out by Blake Griffin's team (Oklahoma) when the two men got tangled up. So Ali did what any self-respecting Cobra Kai would have done: He showed no mercy, flipping Griffin -- who was just named SI.com's Player of the Year -- WWE-style over his back. Mind you, Griffin missed most of two games this season getting concussed on February 21. (Not ...

Cinderella’s Flight Was Delayed Until 12:30 Last Night
The Big Lead —
Kevin Harlan with the best call of the opening day of the tournament. (After the jump, Gottlieb rants, Blake gets flipped, Thabeet’s block, and other random ruminations.)
Not exactly a thrilling day of basketball. Only a handful of games went down to the wire - Clemson fired up an airball at the buzzer against Michigan and VCU’s Eric Maynor’s jumper hit front rim at the buzzer against UCLA. Illinois rallied late, but still lost to Western Kentucky; the result could hardly be considered an upset even though the Hilltoppers were the lowest seed (12) ...
Morgan St's Ali Uses Judo Techniques on Griffin
The Sporting Blog —
The internet will have you believe Morgan State’s Ameer Ali simply flipped Blake Griffin over his back last night, resulting in an ejection for Ali. But no, it was a far more advanced move than that. As the illustration below demonstrates, that was some straight Judo skills Ali broke off. Specifically, it was the 一本 背負投 hand throw. Or you might know it better as Ippon Seoinage:
Sensei says, “excellent form, young Ameer.” Although he did jeopardize himself by going down with Griffin. Next time, he may want to better leverage the hips in order to keep his balance. But still, well done ...
The major story of the game last night was the blatant cheap shot by Morgan State F Ameer Ali....
Crimson And Cream Machine —
The major story of the game last night was the blatant cheap shot by Morgan State F Ameer Ali. Blake Griffin was standing with his arms straight up and Ameer Ali grabbed his arms and launched him over his head. Blake could have been seriously injured and was very close to landing directly on his ...
Blake Griffin Goes Up And Over
Total Pro Sports —
Total Pro Sports - Getting thrashed by the Oklahoma Sooners 82-54, Morgan State Bears (Who???) Ameer Ali had a little brain cramp and I think forgot where that he was playing basketball and not in the WWE. He got tied up with Blake Griffin and then flipped him over his back.
"I got tangled up. It turned out bad," he said, adding that the only thing hurting was "My tailbone a little bit. My back is all right."
"Just understanding why they're doing it and not letting them get the best of me," said Griffin, who was 11 of 12 from the field. "I don't want to get into the individual ...
Blake Griffin and the Flip
Intentional Foul —
By now, you’ve already seen the footage Ameer Ali’s takedown of Oklahoma’s Blake Griffin, so that’s not what this post is for. No, this is my attempt at making a point. In case you missed it, one of the first sites to post that particular highlight was The Hoop Doctors, and for their efforts, CBS ordered YouTube to pull the clip and cancel the blog’s YouTube account. Something about copyright infringement and all that. Partner-in-crime Gunaxin addressed this situation over at his blog as well.
The question I’m left ...
Bulletpoint madness: Random Tourney Thoughts
I Give this Blog About 3 Weeks —
Well the 1st 2 rounds of the NCAA are in the books kids, the immortal question of "How's your bracket holding up?" is floating around everywhere, bubbles have burst, chalk has well...chalked, and moments are starting to shine. After watching as much ball as I could over the weekend there is really only one way to get it all out there. That's right kids, Bulletpoint me: ...
LSU Hoops is Full of Sissies
Thoughts from the Jockstrap —
Chase wrote an article last week that got some good pub. I need to get the college version off my chest:
PG: Bo Spencer, LSU
SG: Garrett Temple, LSU
SF: Marcus Thornton, LSU
PF: Tasmin Mitchell, LSU
C: Chris Johnson, LSU
Coach: Trent Johnson, LSU
The entire LSU team deserves this award after the lame performance they put on against North Carolina last Saturday. I’m not saying that the LSU starting five make the team because they lost to the Tar Heels, I’m saying they’re all a bunch of sissies because no one ...
2009 NBA Draft Open Thread (Beware The Spurs Ninja)
Pounding The Rock —
Let's stash him in Europe for 15 years as he develops
It's the 2009 Draft! Are you excited?!
...That's great, because I'm not so much. The good regular season records from the Spurs through the last decade and the proclivity of the front office to trade away our first round picks mean that I'm usually not able to muster enough interest in the proceeding to sit through the hours of insipid ceremony. Draft night is not Spurs night.
However, our fearless leader will be going to the Austin Toros draft party (and I'm sure he'll look away whenever a Capital City Dancer walks past ...
