Apparently, biting isn’t a penalty in the new NHL
ROFL Sports —
Ottawa Senators forward Jarkko Ruutu went Mike Tyson on Andrew Peters of the Buffalo Sabres in their game last night. All you need to do is watch the video to see clearly what transpired:
Here’s what the National Post, had for a quote from Peters about the PakkMan Attack:
“It’s a pretty stupid thing to do, regardless of who you are, it’s just not part of the game of hockey,” said Peters, whose thumb was cut. “I’ve never had anyone bite me before, I didn’t know that happened. The ...

Video: Jarkko Ruutu bites Sabres' Peters, doesn't get penalized
Puck Daddy —
Less than a day after Sweden's Joakim Andersson was accused of biting a Canadian player, Ottawa Senators pest Jarkko Ruutu appears to have acquired a taste for Andrew Peters of the Buffalo Sabres in their game this evening: You can see Peters rip his glove out of Ruutu's mouth, before either violently shaking his right hand because of the intense pain or overselling the thing like Ric Flair going into the turnbuckles. The glorious part of this incident is that Peters ended up with the only penalty: two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct at 13:13 of the first. Buffalo Sports ...
Jarkko Ruutu: The Story of a Rat
Bangin Panger —
"Like my boy tells me, if it looks like a rat and smells like a rat, by golly, it is a rat." Terrell Owens The Sens Army ironically wrote this today on Alex Ovechkin considering Ruutu the dirtiest, most underhanded player in the league. Well tonight in the Sabres - Sens game, Ruutu proved just that, taking a bite out of Andrew Peters hand during a scrum. Ruutu was not given a penalty, even though Peters adamantly showed the officials the teeth marks on his thumb area. As a matter of fact, Peters was given an unsportsmanlike for goin after the ...
Ottawa's Jarkko Ruutu Takes a Bite Out of Andrew Peters
FanHouse —
by Adam Gretz Filed under: Sabres, Senators, NHL Fights, NHL VideosIn what has been perhaps the most bizarre week of fighting in the history of hockey goonism, Ottawa Senators forward Jarkko Ruutu has seemingly upped the ante. In the first period of Tuesday's game, Ruutu took a bite out of Sabres forward Andrew Peters. Ruutu was not penalized for his actions -- how does the referee signal two-minutes for biting? Does he pull out a sandwich and eat it? -- while Peters was handed a two-minute minor for unsportsmanlike ...
Bite Night
KK Hockey —
Jarkko Ruutu bites the right hand of Andrew Peters tonight.
Don’t bring a mouth to a fist fight.
3rd Man In —
The Sabres continue to improve while beating longtime foe, Ottawa. The game, however, was overshadowed by more controversy. Sabres and Sens? Go figure.
You’re gonna get yours, Jarkko. Known as one of the dirtiest players in the game, Jarkko Ruutu once again showed that he should probably be shackled in some dungeon. But for those ...
Video: Jarkko Ruutu Bites Andrew Peters
Sports Rubbish —
During tonight's game between the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres, the Senators' Jarkko Ruutu went cannibal vampire on the Sabres' Andrew Peters, biting his hand as the two scuffled.
I don't know what would possess someone to bite someone during a hockey game, and neither does anyone else who was interviewed afterward.
Ruutu wasn't even penalized on the play, as it is apparently perfectly legal to bite someone in the NHL. They have to increase the ratings somehow, I guess.

The Wednesday Love Fest
The Love of Sports —
By E. Spencer Kyte Love of Sports Correspondent Is it time to hit the panic button in Boston yet? After getting off to one of the best starts in NBA history, and looking like clear cut favorites to return to the NBA Finals, earning victories has become a real challenge for the Celtics lately. Two nights after losing to the somewhat improved Knicks, the champs dropped another on Tuesday night, this time to Gerald Wallace and the Charlotte Bobcats. Now, the Bobcats have been playing better at times this season under Larry Brown and especially recently after the additions of Boris Diaw and Raja Bell, but these are the kind of games the C’s ...
Speed Read: Celtics Fall Again; May Not Top East
SPORTSbyBROOKS —
Remember a couple of weeks ago when the Celtics were going to challenge the ‘96 Bulls for the best record ever? Yeah, you can pretty much put that possibility to rest. The C’s continued their strange descent on Tuesday night, dropping a game to the lowly Bobcats, 114-106 in overtime. Boston has lost five out of seven games following a 27-2 start, and now faces the real possibility of not winding up with the best record in the East at the end of the season. Orlando is 27-8 after beating Washington last night, and the idle Cavs sit at 27-6.
There was a huge bowl game last night too. I mean, all the best ...

A Bizarre Night in the NHL - One-Punch Fights, Blood and Biting
Movable Type System Activity —
You're already seen it on The Pensblog, Empty Netters and Puck Daddy, and probably other places, but it was definitely a bizarre night in the NHL.
First we'll start with Ruslan Fedotenko's one-punch fight against Colby Armstrong:
The strangest part isn't that the fight was only one punch long, or that Ruslan Fedotenko dominated a fight, but that Fedotenko apparently injured or even broke his hand on Colby's giant nose.
But it got much weirder last night... ...

VIDEO-JORDAN RUUTU INVOKES HIS INNER MIKE TYSON
The World of Isaac —
When I was 8, I was a sweet basketball player. Trust me, I have the video to prove it. Anyways, while playing in a scrimmage I was going up for a rebound and came down with the ball only to feel an intense pain above my eye. I assumed I had just gotten elbowed or accidentally punched until I saw some little piece of crap holding his jaw next to me on the floor. Don't ask me how this happened, but this stupid ahole named Kyle from the other team somehow jacked me in the face with his front tooth. Thankfully for me, I only needed some butterflies to patch it up. Kyle ...
The Morning Skate: Reality (or Ruutu) Bites Andrew Peters
Slap Shot —
We know a guy who wanted to write a hockey book a few years ago. He phoned a literary agent to see if the agent thought the book would appeal to publishers. The agent told him, “It’s a crazy book market out there now. Sports books in general weren’t doing very well at the moment. Publishers just want books they know will sell.” “Well,” our hopeful author asked, “what kind of books are doing well?” “Who knows?” the agent replied. “Vampire books seem to be hot right now.” But now, thanks to the inspiration of Senators pest supreme Jarkko Ruutu, we may have a solution to the author’s dilemma. Get ready for “Vampires of the Ice: A History of Biting in ...
HOCKEY IS ALL BITE-Y
With Leather —
I guess the Sabers and Senators have some kind of intense rivalry, because even as physical as hockey is, you usually don’t see one player bite another, as Jarkko Ruutu — if that is his real name — did to Andrew Peters’s hand last night. From Sabres Edge:
Peters, one of the most gregarious Sabres, had the media in stitches by telling us it was his “texting thumb” that took the bite. “I’m cut pretty good,” he said. “I won’t be able to text message anyone. Now I actually ...
Jarkko Ruutu Bites Andrew Peters, Video
NESW Sports, Sports Videos —
Jarkko Ruutu Bites Andrew Peters, Video. Jarkko Ruutu probably showered alone after the hockey game. Acting like a rabid animal, Ruutu bit Andrew Peters. His Senator teammates are probably as stunned as anyone. I could see biting someone or something as a means of survival only. This is a reprehensible and senseless act by old Darkko Jarkko. Hopefully his team and the league both suspend him for his actions.
Somewhere Evander Holyfield is sweating!

Jarkko Ruutu Suspended 2 Games for Trying to Eat Andrew Peters' Hand
FanHouse —
by Adam Gretz Filed under: Sabres, Senators, NHL General, NHL Fans, NHL Fights, NHL Videos During Tuesday night's game between the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres, we showed you some video of Jarkko Ruutu taking a bite out of Andrew Peters during a first period altercation. In what can only be described as confusing, maybe even a little ridiculous, Peters received the only penalty on the play, picking up a two-minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct. Today, the NHL announced that Ruutu will ...
Puck Daddy reader comment awards: Better late
Puck Daddy —
Apologies. Regrets. I fall on my sword as a paragon of tardiness and sloth. This edition of the Puck Daddy Reader Comment Awards was due on the 15th, and here we are on Obama Day. We'll get these things back on their regular schedule in February. Pinkie swear. For the uninitiated, we hand out some hardware on the first and the fifteenth of every month for some comments that strike our fancy or tickle out funny bones. If you see one of yours, drop us a line and say hey. If you don't, then obviously you either need a dirtier mind or a better appreciate for the comedic value of pink ice. Thanks to everyone who reads and ...

Green and Avery Go Together In Perfect Harmony
Capitals Kremlin —
It wasn't long before the Capitals started playing into Sean Avery's mind games on Wednesday. The league's most notorious agitator made quick work of getting in Mike Green's face, and spending the rest of the game reminding him "it's a long series, and I'm not going anywhere."
This makes the next games tough, because as we expected, Green is an easy target for Avery. Green is the type of player who can be thrown off by Avery's antics and find themselves completely useless to his team. If past games where Mike Green is either a) missing from the line up or b) not a productive member of the offense, are any indicator, the Caps ...
Top 10 Dirtiest NHL Players
The Hockey Writers —
All NHL players have one thing in common; toughness. Competing in a sport where danger awaits every corner in a matter of seconds isn’t for the weak in heart. The NHL’s speed keeps the players on full alert because the slightest ignorance leads to a painful lesson.
There’s no denying that a full season with or without the playoffs puts the body through enormous tests. During that time, each individual will likely run into a player who can put them on the injured reserve well before the final weeks of the year with their tactics.
A hit from behind here, a high stick there is just the start. This batch of dirty players doesn’t ...
