Videos Before Bedtime
The Program — Just a few videos before we head off to a nice bed with soft pillows....have a good night everyone! Bruins Warm-Ups! The Bite With Post-Game Comments A joyous Pens postgame from our Pens fan! Matt Walker's double punch on Jovocop! Andre Roy Vs. Alexei Semenov (roughing?)

No Jacket Required. PENS WIN.
The Pensblog — One win changes nothing. Two wins change(s) nothing. Let's face it. Winning this game is like beating Jim Abbott in rock-paper-scissors. But it has lifted ...

Good night: A sun setting in the West
The Two-Line Pass — The Lead San Jose has had its problems of late. No one would deny that. While the Sharks have earned points in eight of their last 10 games, they’ve also been handed 40 percent of their regulation losses and 60 percent of their shootout losses for the entire in that space. And while the two regulation losses were to very good teams in Detroit last week and Calgary tonight — both of which are closing the gap between the Sharks and the rest of the West in second and third place, respectively — the Sharks have been thoroughly outplayed in both. The embarrassing 6-0 loss to Detroit was about as heavily-discussed as you’d ...

Video: Jarkko Ruutu Bites Andrew Peters
Sports Rubbish — During tonight's game between the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres, the Senators' Jarkko Ruutu went cannibal vampire on the Sabres' Andrew Peters, biting his hand as the two scuffled. I don't know what would possess someone to bite someone during a hockey game, and neither does anyone else who was interviewed afterward. Ruutu wasn't even penalized on the play, as it is apparently perfectly legal to bite someone in the NHL. They have to increase the ratings somehow, I guess. HT: [The Program] ...

Mmmmm Fingers
The Power Play — Just when you thought hockey couldn't get any violenter, (is that a word?) along comes Jarkko Ruutu of the Ottawa Senators. Tuesday night during the Sens vs. Sabres game, Ruutu and Sabres tough guy Andrew Peters were roughing it up along the boards when Ruutu reached a whole new level of craziness. As Andrew Peters was giving the Sens goon a face wash with his glove, Ruutu proceeded to bite down hard on Peters' glove. So hard that Peters could feel it through the glove and was in a considerable amount of pain. After the game when asked about the biting incident, Peters seemed just as surprised as I would have been in the same ...

Two One Punch KOs, A Finger Biting, An Odd Roughing Minor and a Partridge in Pear Tree [The New NHL]
We Eat Children — Previous Post: Does This Mean The Flames Are An Elite Team Now? Anatomy of Flames vs. Sharks Jan.6, 2009 [The New NHL] Two One Punch KOs, A Finger Biting, An Odd Roughing Minor and a Partridge in Pear Tree [The New NHL] It was a weird night in the NHL last night, Colby Armstrong did a great job of breaking Ruslan Fedotenko’s hand with his face , Matt Walker destroyed Ed Jovanoski with a two-punch-combo, the only problem being that Jovanoski’s hands were on his stick at the time and Ottawa Senators super-pest Jarko Ruutu cannot confirm or deny the fact that he bit Andrew Peter’s finger during a scrum . Also, t he Flames bit ...

YouTube love: Jarkko Ruutu’s Mike Tyson moment
Randball — In case you missed Jarkko Ruutu biting Andrew Peters yesterday — or the buildup to it — please have a look-see now. Nice sport you have there, Marthaler. Ruutu has been suspended for two games, by the way. This entry was posted on Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 at 4:04 pm and is filed under Main ...

Rumors and Rants — Ottawa has become the epicenter of the hockey world overnight, and it didn’t even require the Senators to actually be good. (Ironically, when they made the finals a couple years ago, no one paid any attention to them). The first news item out of Canada’s capital is that Sens center Mike Fisher and “country” music starlet Carrie Underwood are now an item. (Country is in quotation marks because if it ain’t about whiskey, pick-up trucks and heartbreak, it ain’t country). It’s quite a coup for Fisher if you ask us. Underwood, former romancer of Cowboys QB Tony Romo, is a major catch for a guy who only ...

Slugs 4, Sens 2: You Want Fries With That?
Five for Smiting - Your Ottawa Senators Blog And Group Hug — Hey, why is that man jumping up and down like that? And swearing? A lot? Oh...Oh, no. No, no, no! Oh, no! Bad, bad Ruut! Oh, wicked, wicked Ruut! Oh, wicked, bad, naughty, evil Ruut! You are a bad person and must pay the penalty! Naughty, evil, bad Ruut! Lucky for us (but especially for you), you didn't have to pay it last night. The Highs: Is it Giggles Finally Shows Up Night already?: Fantastic job, Jason. You played hard, kept your asshat turnovers (just) below your maximum allowable quota of three, potted a couple of goals and I do believe I even saw a back check or two. Well played. So, ...

So Long, Pac
Bob's Blog - Live from Lewisville — I must be honest, I am pleased with a few of the stories trickling out of Valley Ranch. Bruce Read – Gone. Adam Jones – now, gone. You know, all you ask in this business is that a player be worth the trouble. That could mean a draft pick. In could mean salary. And it could mean a security detail. But, if he is worth the trouble, then he is worth the trouble. But, if you are Pac Man Jones, you spent an entire year in our lives, and the sum total of his stay on the field was: A couple 12 men on the field penalties that we blamed on him. A couple pass break-ups. And a more than a couple odd decisions on punt returns. ...

The N.H.L. Awards You May Not See
Slap Shot — The National Hockey League’s annual awards show unfolds, bigger and glitzier than ever, in Las Vegas on Thursday night. Yet curiously, at least according to the program distributed to the news media beforehand, not all the year’s honors will be handed out. Fortunately, we are able to correct that oversight. Below, the honors you may not see bestowed tonight, beginning with a new prize: MARIAN HOSSA TROPHY person voted to have shown worst judgment in making a career move ...
