As pointed out by The Beautiful Game, the sport of soccer can be as brutal as it is beautiful. Just ask John Terry of Chelsea. Terry had a chance to win the UEFA Cup for Chelsea during the penalty shot portion of the game but as he approached his shot, Terry slipped and the ball went wide-right and bounced harmlessly off the post.
Subsequently, Manchester United won the shoot-out and the UEFA Cup.
Of course, one man’s pain is another fan’s pleasure, something indicated quite nicely in the following YouTube of some Manchester United fans watching Terry’s shot. Needless ...

United fans are lucky to have several matches to choose from as “the greatest ever”. The ones that tend to rank most highly are the ones where we should have been well and truly beaten, but somehow managed to come back and win. In 1999, we saw several games like this, with the games against Arsenal, Juventus and Bayern Munich.
Last Wednesday, United won the European Cup in a sudden death penalty shoot out. After missing several great chances in the first half of the match to wrap the game up, United were hanging on by the skin of their teeth in the shoot out.

A lot has been written about John Terry since he slipped and missed that penalty in Moscow, personally, I had no sympathy for him whatsoever given that he led the pack of Chelsea players who rounded on Carlos Tevez. The Argentine had put the ball out of play knocking it back towards the Chelsea goal - in doing so he was only doing what the Chelsea players had already done twice.
