Kevin Garnett earned respect and popularity by displaying his signature emotion with on-court chest pounds and vocal motivation. It’s the type of intensity Boston lacked since its glory days in the ’80s — such success that Garnett irked his entire career to achieve, and literally hung over his head at the New Garden.

garnett.JPG As we imagined all along, we were at Target Center last night to watch Kevin Garnett clinch his first-ever NBA championship and to hear him say it was “for everybody in ‘Sota.” The strange part, perhaps, is that we were merely at NBA City, the restaurant attached to the home of the Wolves, while Garnett was thousands of miles away in Boston. That distance seemed to matter none to him nor the decidedly pro-Boston/pro-Garnett fans who came out to dine, drink and watch The Franchise win it all in that green No. 5 uniform that still looks so strange. Emptying the notebook with one last post of Finals thoughts, before we put 2007-08 to rest for good and spin it forward.... WHAT WILL THIBODEAU DO? I still can't entirely get my head around how everything fell into place so improbably and perfectly for the Boston Celtics in 2007-08. Beyond the fact that the franchise was devastated by finishing with just the no. 5 pick in the 2007 lottery, and that KG rejected the original deal in late June (it was finally consummated on July 31), don't forget that defensive guru Tom Thibodeau was hired by the Wizards on July 3 and coached with the team for a few days before having a change of ...
