Ball Don't Lie — No, Sacramento Kings rookie Jason Thompson didn't just get married. The young'n kept forgetting to bring fresh bagels and cream cheese to practice, so a few hungry Kings pranksters filled his ride with (apparently) delicious popcorn. Hopefully it wasn't buttered. Thanks to BDL readers Andrew and Jason for the heads up. Keep those tips and links coming.

Kings Rookie Jason Thompson Has Car Filled With Popcorn
FanIQ Blog — As I'm sure most of you are aware, many NBA teams traditionally have their rookies perform menial tasks for veterans during their first year. Basically, it's a very low form of fraternity hazing. Really all they have to do is pick up luggage or get breakfast for the team. But if you don't do what you're supposed to, the consequences can be drastic, as Kings rookie Jason Thompson recently found out. Apparently Thompson hadn't been bringing fresh bagels and cream cheese to practice, so the vets stuffed his car full of popcorn. Now, some of you may think that kind of sucks, ...

When Life Fills Your Truck With Popcorn, You Throw Iron Man in the Whip-Equipped DVD
Both Teams Played Hard — No confirmation on whether or not that’s what Jason Thompson ended up doing, but his teammates sure did fill his ‘Sca-lade (a term that Spencer Hawes uses not once but twice in the video below) with buttery popcorn. (via Ball Don’t Lie)

NBA Essentials: Rookie Hazing With Extra Butter, MJ's Debut and LeBron's Chalk
FanHouse — by Matt Watson Filed under: Bobcats, Cavaliers, Jazz, Kings, NBA VideosNBA Essentials provides the must-see links, quotes and videos of the day. * DANA DON'T BRING BAGELS! -- Sactown Royalty * "As far as I know, this is the 1st acting job Michael ever landed. It is a video that some North Carolina medical students did to raise awareness of Heart Disease. I just shortened the vid, so you can see MJ in all his 1983 greatness. By that I mean, his North ...

On the lighter side of things, Kings rookie gets his car popcorned.
Fear The Beard — C’mon rook! They told you to bring the bagels to practice. Like hella times. What were you thinking, JT? That they were just going to let it slide? Nope. Well, that’s your bad. Because now you’re gonna have an expensive detailing bill. But there’s a bigger question. Exactly when did Spencer Hawes get so slangalicious with his vocab? Wasn’t he ready to stump for John McCain like a week and a half ago? Spencer Hawes, a second-year center with the Sacramento Kings, created a Facebook page for fans of conservative pundit Ann Coulter and had a ...

Sacramento Kings Prank Rookie Jason Thompson for His Bagel Negligence
Larry Brown Sports — Rookie hazing shouldn’t be something too new to you if you’re gracing these pages. The People’s Princess, Joakim Noah, was chastised as a rookie for screwing up his Krispy Kreme duty. Recently, the Phillies put on one of the all-time great pranks when they told Kyle Kendrick he had been traded to Japan. This one won’t wow you by any means, but it’s still fun to see the little kid environment created by a bunch of pro basketball players. Check out what the Sacramento Kings veterans did to rookie Jason Thompson: ...

The Thursday Love Fest
The Love of Sports — By E. Spencer Kyte Love of Sports Correspondent It’s finally here. After what seems like weeks, the BCS Championship Game is finally going down tonight in South Florida. Oklahoma and Florida will do battle for college football supremacy ... maybe. See, if Oklahoma wins, things could get a little tricky. I mean, sure, it’s the BCS Championship Game, but Texas beat a tough Ohio State team just a couple nights ago in the Fiesta Bowl and took down OU during the regular season. And what about Utah? While they certainly don’t play in a powerhouse conference, an undefeated season is an undefeated season and worthy of some recognition. When it’s ...

Whenever I feel blue (and I do), NBA pranks make me smile
I *Heart* Celtics — Forget for a moment that the formerly clutch Celtics have been dribbling out of bounds and getting called for travelling down the stretch. Forget for a moment that Yao Ming was dropping in layups last night with the ease that I have on one of those tiny nerf hoops. Forget that the Celtics are about to be eviscerated by the Cavaliers tomorrow night. Watch this video instead: ...

Sacramento Kings Jason Thompson Gets a Car Full of Popcorn
EveryJoe » Sports Rumors — When someone new joins your workplace, you generally give them a nice welcome. Maybe a plant. Perhaps a card. At the very least you should take them out to lunch. But the Sacramento Kings apparently didn’t read the book on “How to Treat a New Employee” because they ...

Game Notes: Kings at Warriors
SLAM Online — by Taylor Price Yesterday’s Warriors/Kings game felt just like an ABA ballgame. The only things missing were the afro’s, short-shorts, multi-colored basketball and fist-fights during the commercial breaks. Like the ABA, defense was used sparingly. When the game lasted three overtimes, it pretty much became apparent by overtime number two, the first team to score 150 points would be victorious. But after both teams combined for 225 shots, one team outlasted the other and made one more bucket than the other on their final possession. So without further anticipation, here’s the abridged version of my ...

Where’s the Love - Which Rooks Made the Rookie Challenge and Which Should Have
Empty the Bench — Russell Westbrook and Kevin Love Photo Credit: Icon SMI See also: Sophomore Snubs The best basketball prospects in the country get snapped up with high lottery picks, and teams with high lottery picks don’t tend to get a lot of nationally televised games. For fans who don’t enjoy the benefits of NBA League Pass, that makes the Rookie Challenge a rare opportunity to see the best and brightest in action on a national stage. Even better, rather than seasoned veterans, they play alongside and against their peers, allowing them to shine. ...

A Bond Unlike Many Others
Hoops Addict — It isn’t rare that a younger brother tends to look up to the older one. They will try to mimic their actions and habits in hopes of being just like their big brother. This tends to be the case specifically when it comes to sports. You might head to your brothers’ games, see him getting better and receiving recognition. The obvious thing for you, the younger brother, is to want to get even better than him and receive more recognition. The years go on and as you grow older those petty fights the two of you used to have are now competitive battles. You don’t realize it, but you’re making each other better. At the ...

Exit Interviews: 2008-2009 Sacramento Kings
Talk Hoops - Support the Habit — As a team's season comes to an end, it's the job of the owner, GM, and coach to sit down with players and give them an "exit interview" to let them know how they did this past season and what they need to work on in the off-season. So I'm doing the same thing with each team as I look into what the expectations were going into this season, what went wrong, how each player did, what the impressions are from a fan/blogger for that team, and where the team is headed. ...

Talking Off-Season With: A Royal Pain
NBAtipoff — We got a chance to talk with Bryan of A Royal Pain. He writes a tremendous Kings blog, so make sure you check it out. Also check out his other site, Kings Forum. 1. Looking at your draft review, I see you were one of the guys that wanted the Kings to select Ricky Rubio. Tell us what you do and don't like about what you got and if you'd still deal Kevin Martin for Rubio. I think a lot of people were more shocked than upset at the selection of Tyreke Evans, including myself. I watched Evans at Memphis quite a bit and thought he'd be a really nice player in the league, but, I still think we made a mistake ...

NBA Withdrawal: 10 “DAYUM!” Moments From Last Season
Heels on Hardwood — The NBA puts some of the best athletes in the world on the court but sometimes its not always about the game. I put together 10 random moments on and off the court from last season that got me to raise and eyebrow, do a double take or just left me speechless…. Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow… Allen Iverson: All star weekend is usually about everything but the game and this year was no different. All-Star regular, Iverson showed up in the team locker room rocking a new do. Gone were the braids that had become his trademark, and were replaced by a fresh buzz with a #2 blade. It was a ...

2009-2010 Sacramento Kings NBA Season Preview
Sparty and Friends — Here at Sparty and Friends, we have reached NBA preview (again). There will be one team per work day leading up to the season opener (Celts vs. Cavs, October 27th at 7:30pm on TNT). The teams are ordered by record starting with last place and going up through the non-playoff teams, followed by the playoff teams in order of elimination (or lack there of in the Lakers’ case). Now let’s have a late Sac(To) lunch… The Kings are making progress. No, really. They have a young core of players and got better in the draft. They have some bad contracts, but in a few years they will be out of those. They’ll probably ...
