So how about this for an American debut. 3-3, Double, BB, 3 RBIs oh and this.... "A star is born in the teeth of the Lake Michigan wind."- Brent Musburger Kerry Wood had tried to blow the game for the Cubs followed in turn by Eric Gagne doing the same for the Brewers. Fun game....well fun from the 9th inning on and Brent Musburger wasn't that bad. The Cubs also lost the game in the tenth. Ah Baseball....it's good to have you back.
Kosuke Fukudome is the god of my heart
Published 3/31/2008 by PostmanE at The Postmen // A Sports Blog // Chicago, IL.
With the possible exception that he made me mad I decided to go in to work today (hey, I have tickets Sunday, no big deal right?) Kosuke Fukudome is the greatest human being on the planet in the history of the world and things.
Of course, the Cubs still lost. Of course. Cubs fan/friend/commenter Jason is telling me that Piniella made the wrong move not to bring Kerry Wood in as the actual closer — let’s hope Lou doesn’t make a habit of indecisiveness this year. That got really old really fast last year, and I don’t think it made the team ...
Fukudome Sets Wrigley's Hearts Ablaze

Filed under: Chicago, Cubs, NL Central, MLB Video Of all the opening day happenings, Kosuke Fukudome's debut for the Cubs perhaps shined the brightest of all. Just watch the above video. Cubs trailing by three, bottom of the ninth, Fukudome already 2-2 on the day with a walk, and bam, home run -- Cubs tie it up. And Brent Musburger says something about the teeth of Lake Michigan. i'm still not sure what that was all about. The Cubs lost in extra innings, but hey, welcome to the North Side Kosuke. Typical Cubs Opening Day: Thrilling HR, Still Lose
Published 4/1/2008 by jason at SPORTSbyBROOKS
After last week’s trip to Tokyo and Sunday night in DC, Opening Day started for real for the rest of Major League Baseball. And the Chicago Cubs embarked on their 100th season since their last World Series win. Kosuke Fukudome Cubs ...
Kosuke Fukudome, A star is born in the teeth of the Lake Michigan wind. Video

“A star is born in the teeth of the Lake Michigan wind”. Video. Brent Musburger is some kind of genius. What a great line. What great timing. Awful Announincing covered the telecast and posted the video of the soon to be famous call. I already posted what Kosuke Fukudome did in his first at bat. This is what he did in his last at bat. That’s a pretty good day. Except that the Cubs lost. ...
Game 1: What A F---ing Debut!!
Published 4/1/2008 by Bryan at OUT OF RIGHT FIELD
Forget the game itself. It was game 1. GAME 1. OUT OF ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY TWO. The radio, newspapers, and blogs are already breaking down Lou's moves. Well, we're not going to here. It's game 1. Relax and watch this 100 times like I have because it's the only thing that matters from today's game. Wow, I love him already. It's going to be a fun summer. Monday’s opener was analogous to many Cubs season I remember growing up — mostly boring, then ridiculously exciting, only to end in bitter disappointment. Scoreless through 8 innings, each team’s closer — Kerry Wood and Eric Gagne — gave up three runs in the 9th inning.
Still, you have to give it to Kosuke Fukudome — the guy knows drama. Here’s a video of his game-tying blast (until the interns at MLB wake up). ...
Opening Day thoughts

This was one of the most entertaining things to happen on Opening Day: (Hat-tip to Awful Announcing for finding the video)
I know it’s just one game (that the Brewers won in extras), and Eric Gagne will very likely rebound from this and have a great season. But combine that blown save with the way Gagne ...

The Cubs blew it and lose in extra innings to the Brewers 4-3, but all of the attention was really on RF Kosuke Fukudome’s MLB debut, and I think 3-3 with a 3-run jack off Eric Gagne in the bottom of the ninth to tie it makes a very good impression. Speaking of Gagne: I ...
FOOK-OOH-DOUGH-MAY, Clap-Clap-ClapClapClap
Published 4/1/2008 by Andrew Johnson at Defensive Indifference
I could get used to Brewers-Cubs games like the one on Opening Day. It was easily the best viewing on Monday, chock full of tasty storylines — from Carlos Zambrano getting hurt, Carlos Marmol dealing, Kerry Wood struggling, Eric Gagne struggling even more and Kosuke Fukudome becoming a fan(tasy??) favorite. Five of the division races should be very good this year, but the one in the NL Central might be the most compelling of all, and the Cubs and Brewers will have played six times by May 1.

You’ll notice that the 2008 MLB Screw Job Tracker widget is already starting to fill up after one day of games. One day of games. I’m not sure I can take five full months of this. Not even at one unit a pop.

Blown Save #1. Somehow the Screwers overcame this bomb by Fukudome and the resulting great home run call by Musburger to get the victory. Thanks to AA for the video.

Since the advent of YouTube and cell phone cameras we’re suckers for reaction shots of two kinds. Cubs’ fans losing their minds over a big home run and Bears’ fans during any Devin Hester kick return.
Yesterday, in an eventual 4-3 loss to the Brewers, Cubs’ right fielder Kosuke Fukudome, introduced himself to his new fans with three hits, the last of which (a three run bomb) tied the game at three in the ninth, and set off this:
Also, you have to love the guy yelling in the background as the ball is in the air.
Also, we caution the ledge ...
New Team, Same Gagne
Published 4/1/2008 by Fenway West at Fenway West
In case you missed it, former Red Sox disaster Eric Gagne made his first regular season appearance with the Brewers yesterday. The new $10 million closer gave up a hit, walk and a 3 run homer to blow the save. I guess he has not been able to find a steroids dealer since leaving L.A. It sure is nice that he is someone else's problem now. ...
Magic Number Countdown: 11

11 more wins. That’s all the Cubs need to collect to make the unthinkable thinkable and to set off what will be the most ridiculous party in the history of the city of Chicago. You know HJE has a plan to count this down in style. Below are my top eleven moments of the 2008 season (in chronological order).
Fukudome’s Opening Day. Kosuke Fukudome had a hell of a debut with the Cubs. In his first three plate appearances, he reached base three times, with a single, double, and walk. But the Cubs couldn’t put any runs on the board for starter Carlos Zambrano, and found themselves down ...
