Brett Myers is the new Ashton Kootcher
Published 2/17/2008 by Michael Milici at Bugs & Cranks
The Phillies pulled off an instant-classic of a clubhouse prank this afternoon in Clearwater.
Evil genius Brett Myers concocted a plan where assistant GM Ruben Amaro and manager Charlie Manuel would inform 2nd year pitcher Kyle Kendrick that he was traded to a Japenese team in exchange for another pitcher. Practically the entire clubhouse was in on it, from the newspaper reporters to Kyle’s agent. Kendrick was even slapped with a fake itinerary to Japan, fake press release and fake trade papers to his new squad.
An elaborate, well carried out plan indeed.

The Phillies pulled off an instant-classic clubhouse prank Saturday afternoon in Clearwater.
Evil genius Brett Myers concocted a plan where assistant GM Ruben Amaro and manager Charlie Manuel would inform 2nd year pitcher Kyle Kendrick that he was traded to a Japenese team in exchange for another pitcher - named Kobyashi. Watch and enjoy. The plan was extensive and nearly everyone and their mother was in on the prank. Good stuff.

Kyle Kendrick Gets Punk’d

Kyle Kendrick Gets Punk’d February 17th, 2008 Posted in Media , Internet , Philadelphia Phillies , MLB Kendrick Target of Elaborate Prank : After the Phillies’ workout on Saturday, Ruben Amaro Jr. summoned Kendrick into manager Charlie Manuel’s office at Bright House Networks Field. With a straight face, the assistant general manager told his gullible pitcher that he’d been dealt to the Yomiuri Giants of the Japanese Central League for a player named “Kobayashi Iwamura.” Presented with a letter printed on Phillies stationery with official-sounding language, Kendrick was convinced of the “deal,” and ...
Brett Myers is Full of Trickery [Better Than Beating His Wife I Guess]
Published 2/17/2008 by Christmas Ape at Deadspin
When not occupied with domestic abuse or calling reporters retards, Phillies pitcher Brett Myers fancies himself quite the mischievous clubhouse presence. Here, he's gotten manager Charlie Manuel, some beat reporters and GM Ruben Amaro in on the act of fooling pitcher Kyle Kendrick into thinking he's been dealt to a Japanese team.
Bug & Cranks also has scans of the fake documents they took the time to draw up.
I like that Kendrick's first question is whether Japan has any decent food. Well, I don't know, it's not Philly, Kyle. Bad form on Myers' part with the "You got punked" ...

Gullible, thy name is Kyle Kendrick. Hey, if you think this video is funny, you should see the footage of Lastings Milledge being told he was traded to the Nationals for Ryan Church.

The entire Phillies team, manager, general manager, media and possibly even the Phanatic are in on this dogpile of Kendrick where they trick him into thinking he’s headed to Japan in a trade. Way to be, Brett Myers. If it were us, we’d be so pissed we’d probably punch/strangle you.

Weekend Tube Review: Daytona 500 > All-Star Game

There's nothing like playing a game of pick-up basketball in front of a huge crowd that has the emotion of someone in a coma, but I guess that's what all-star games have turned into today.
Sure there were moments of excitement, but the crowd seemed spoiled after the dunk contest the night before. Marv Albert was just trying and trying to show some excitement, but when your partners are Doug Collins and Reggie Miller, well, even the best of commentators would start to lose it.
The best part of the whole event was by far the anthem, halftime show and intros, which incorporated ...

Phillies to win World Series

No not really, but since they can’t do that at least it is good to know that the organization is spending its time conducting detailed and elaborate pranks.
Apparently the whole Phillies organization got together and decided to “punk” second year pitcher Kyle Kendrick. I don’t exactly know why, someone feel free to inform me on that. Anyways they acted like they traded Kendrick to a team in Japan and he would have to leave the next day. The organization even created fake documents and got some media folks to put together a fake press conference. On top of that they video taped it ...
Double K Shipped to Japan

You may have already seen this, but for those of you that have not, here is the video of Kyle Kendrick getting Punk'd. I was a little late on getting this out, but finally had a chance to post it. See the rest after the break - All in all, I think it was a great prank. As was commented, I think Double K took it like a champ. Think about it: you were called up from AA ball mid-season as a stop gap the the injury plagued rotation and pitched pretty well for the NL East champs. You've got be psyched about your first big league camp, and Uncle Charlie informs you that you're on a plan to Japan the next ...

during the offseason, i sat on the edge of my ergonomic seat with a mixture of glee, anticipation, and sadness. no more marco, danny, mark, shannon, nick, or mike. now spring training is in full swing, and rich harden sounds like the ace he's always potentially been. talks regarding trading joe blanton may or may not be happening behind semi-closed doors, and i've also found out that the team affectionately calls lenny dinardo "pecs." sadly, kirk saarloos has been sent to minor league camp, but here's hoping he ends up on someone's major league roster this year. if anything, he deserves some time at the ...
Game #24 vs. Philadelphia
Published 4/26/2008 by Randy Linville at Pittsburgh Lumber Co.
Game #24 vs. Philadelphia PNC Park | 7:05 | Morris vs. Kyle Kendrick | Box Pre-Game Thoughts Kyle Kendrick was traded to Japan earlier this year. Or maybe not: At any rate, he was victorious in 10 games as a rookie last year. I believe the last rookie pitcher for Philly to win ten games was Pat Combs back in 1990. I think he was still a rookie. Kendrick is 1-2 with a 5.49 ERA in 2008. He face the Pirates once in 2007. That was on July 29th , when the Pirates were in the middle of their post-All-Star game swoon. He beat the Bucs by giving up just one run on six hits over seven innings of work. The Bucs are ...

Phillies (13-11) at Pirates (9-13) 7:05--PNC Park, Pittsburgh Kyle Kendrick (1-2, 5.59) vs. Matt Morris (0-3, 9.15) [GameTrax] Well, the basic consensus for this one is that the offense has to hit double-digits for any hope of a victory. Matt Morris has been terrible, and there's no reason to expect that to change tonight against the powerful Phillies. [Pirates.com] says he's ready to "trust himself" again. Wonderful. The Pirate offense will try to go nuts against Phillies righty Kyle Kendrick. Kendrick beat the Pirates once last year, giving up a run in 7 innings. The ...

... Kyle Kendrick’s experience aside, a trade back to Japan for Igawa would be fairly unprecedented. Japanese League players — Alfonso Soriano and Hideo Nomo, I’m looking at you — have “retired” in Japan so that they could sign MLB free agent contracts, but never in the history of the game has an American team traded a player back to his home country. ...
