Man, I have a tough time believing that's a flagrant, let alone a flagrant 2.

Even the Blazers announcers admit it around 1:50. Definitely not a flagrant 2 no matter which way you look at it. It's tough because we all know the Lakers could have used Odom down the stretch.

Mike Barrett agreed that it wasn't a flagrant, but that color guy was acting the fool.  Flagrant 4??

It was a good, hard foul. Period. Nothing especially interesting about it.

It kind of looked like a hip check to me. It looked like Odom jumped and folded his arms. How could he be going for the ball?

It was not the worst foul I have ever seen though.

Just to clear things up, the foul wasn't called a Flagrant 2, it was a Flagrant 1. Flagrant 2 calls for an immediate ejection and Lamar finished off the game.

Worst of the Night: April 8, 2008
Basketbawful — Atlanta Hawks: For the Hawks, securing the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference came down to simple math: Win and you're in (assuming you win at least one more game or the Nets drop one), lose and face the possibility of not reaching the postseason at all. So of course they lost. Atlanta shot 37 percent (to the Pacers 51) and fell behind by as many as 29 points before finally dying softly, 112-98. See that, Hawks? It's your playoff grave. And that's Mike Dunleavy Jr. (28 points, 6 rebounds) holding the shovel. Mike Bibby: The Bibster was 0-for-8 last ...

ESPN.com - TrueHoop — TrueHoop has had many posts through the years questioning the ban of high-schoolers from the NBA. Here's an article along those lines from Brandon Hoffman on RealGM: "Mike Dunleavy, son of a long-time NBA head coach Mike Dunleavy Sr. played three years at the University of Duke, the best college basketball program in the nation. 'It sounds silly to say the college game isn't good for guys, but there may be some truth to it,' Dunleavy said. 'If you're good enough to play 10 to 15 minutes a night and practice every day, you'll get dramatically better being in the NBA compared to staying in school.'" Mark Cuban on Blog ...

Steve Blake is a bad motha...
Rip City Project | A Portland Trailblazers blog — ...shut yo mouth. I'm just talking about Blake. Part four of Jason Quick's Rip City Revival series focuses on Steve Blake. This whole series is kind of mind-boggling to me and I don't mean that all in a good way. Part one was an amazing 10-part look into Brandon Roy. Then an underwhelming look at Greg Oden's return with zero mini-blogs. And now we're back to an 8-part series on Blake...but it's being stretched out for 4-5 days. *raises fist* There's nothing "Quick" about this one. *crickets* I'm funny dammit. What we learned from the latest installment is that Steve Blake is humble and hungry. It's good to ...

Blazers vs. Lakers in links
Blazers Blog — In case you needed more fuel for the fire in this rivalry tonight, here's a refresher courtesy of Lamar Odom. On to the links ... Los Angeles Times , Lakers have been bowled over in Rose Garden: "I don't know," Odom said three times. "They're tough up there. They're tough up there for everyone. They're young, and of course they probably go through their troubles on the road and are great at home. We look forward to playing our best game and go up there and get one." Odom has one of the tougher assignments. He'll be asked to defend the talented Aldridge. Aldridge is listed at 6 feet 11, but because of Aldridge's long wingspan, ...

That's a hard foul by Lamar Odom , without a doubt, but I'm not entirely convinced it was a flagrant (though it may have been retaliation for this ). The reason it looks bad is the angle at which Brandon Roy hits the ground -- if he didn't land square on his hip and was able to bounce back up, I'm not sure there would have been as much post-play posturing. (That said, if the Blazers did ...
