Barkley, Malone, and Dr. J Beat Up Larry Bird, Video. Charles Barkley and Moses Malone put Larry Bird in a headlock while Julius Erving lays 3 haymakers in Birds Grill. You do not see that every day.
A little background. This is from Nov. 9 1984. It is early in the basketball season. Both teams are undefeated at 5-0 and 4-0. The Garden was packed for the 176th straight time. Bird scored 42 before his ejection and the Celtics went on to win 130-119.
For weeks after this game people would use the phrase,” I went to a basketball game and hockey ...

We Interrupt This Program: Brawlin’ With the Bird

A little mindless YouTube action this morning courtesy of NESW Sports, and the Ethanator.
I grew up watching Larry Bird as a kid. I always remember how amazing it was that this geeky looking white guy, who seemed to have a perpetual wedgy while on the floor, could seemingly run circles around the competition and light up the basket like no other. The other thing about Bird was that he never seemed to get frazzled, always played with composure, and never seemed to get into any shoving matches with other players.
All except for this one day … ...
Larry Bird and "The Doctor"

I guess this must be the week for uncovering unintentionally hilarious Larry Bird commercials from the 80s. Check out this spot for the American Heart Association starring Larry Legend and the creepiest heart doctor you'll ever see. Who knew working on alternatives to bypass surgery could win you a place on Bird's pesonal All-Star Team. And here I thought Larry hated doctors...

Sorry for the delay with the latest edition of the Links. Unfortunately, I've been traveling for the past three weeks and kept falling behind on e-mails, so there wasn't enough time to slap a decent batch together until this weekend. Thanks to everyone who keeps sending quality links along, especially those readers with the foresight to put "LINK" in the subject heading. OK, now to the good stuff: With the one-year anniversary of my "B.S. Report" podcast coming up, I wanted to hand out some awards ... an idea that would have been much easier if iTunes ...
What Will Happen Next?

There is talk all over the radio, TV and internet about if the will be any suspensions for game 5 following last night's skirmish. The following players could be suspended for different reasons, some for as little as one foot on the court. Kendrick Perkins, KG, Sam Cassell, Zaza Pachulia, Marvin Williams. Decide for yourself by watching the video. My friend Jamie said to me, remember times have changed since these brawls. ...
Charles Barkley and Moses Malone Are Great Teammates

http://youtube.com/watch?v=CqIxJ3bcT8g I remember watching this game at my grandparent’s house in my hometown of Chester–home of Tyreke Evans, Kevin Jones and Jameer Nelson. My family moved to Delaware and I remember being so mad I had to miss some the game (a pre-season game) because of the ride up top. This was a true rivalry, so anytime they played was a big game. I grew to respect his talent, but I couldn’t stand Larry Bird. He was too good and would embarrass you with his court savvy. Whenever he took a shot, I would look away–hoping the hated Boston Garden crowd didn’t cheer as it dropped. Bird was killing the Sixers–he had 42 before the ejection–while ...
