Leon Powe Blows Past the Defense and Puts Down a Huge ...
The Finals Suck. Except for JVG.
Straight Bangin' —
Brilliant. Honestly, what's there to say about this Finals? The Lakers' offense blows right now, their defense is even worse, Tom Thibadeau is pwning head cheerleader Doc Rivers, and every Celtic role player is having the kind of series that Jeff Foster used to have against the Pistons. OK, fine, a few other things: - Paul Pierce is a baby. You know how last night the announcers alluded to him showing no signs of ill-effect stemming from his "injury"? Well, that's because THERE WAS NO INJURY. It's like if my boss walked over to me at work and said, "Joey, I ...
Foul Play, Powe Performance Has Lakers Down 0-2
SPORTSbyBROOKS —
Sunday night’s Game 2 was looking to become a boring blowout, as the Celtics were up on the Lakers by 22 after three quarters of play. But before we had a chance to flip over to the “Family Guy” repeat on Channel 11, Kobe& crew stormed back, coming to within four with 20 seconds left. But they couldn’t close the deal, and L.A. fell to Boston 108-102 ...
Second Day Hangover: Beer Pong coming to Wii, Leon Powe's nastified dunk, debut on WZON today
Small White Ball —
For all of you getting up way too early to make not enough money this Monday morning, SWB salutes you. It's the Second Day Hangover, a few news items that'll take up a few minutes of your Monday morning. Grab that over-sized coffee and let's get to it.... ...
Are the Celtics TRYING to give me a heart attack?!?
Parquet Wishes and Leprechaun Dreams —
Okay, first let's get to the good stuff: the C's took care of business and protected the home court, resulting in a 2-0 lead in these NBA Finals ... and a large part of last night's Game Two victory can be attributed to the hustle and determination of one Leon Powe, who seemingly came out of nowhere - at least according to Lakers fans - and contributed 21 points (6-7 FG, 9-13 FT) in only 15 minutes for the game of his career. ...
Worst of Game 2 of the 2008 NBA Finals
Basketbawful —
Editor's note: Due to some serious technical difficulties, I can't check email or use Blogger's editing functions (i.e., I can't insert links and such). So sorry for the lack of references and I apologize if I missed any cool submissions. Hopefully Al Gore will fix the Internet soon. The Lakers for the first 40ish minutes: They were flat and stagnant on offense. They were listless and lazy on defense (a fact that was highlighted by Leon Powe's coast-to-coast -- and completely uncontested -- fourth-quarter slamma-jamma). They whined and flailed around after every call and no-call that ...
Leon Powe Dunks Like Dr. J?
FanIQ Blog —
It was hard not to get swept up in the Leon Powe show last night. A minimally used bench player having the night of his life with considerable help from a Lakers defense who simply failed to cover him.
As impressed as you might have been, suffice it to say, no one was more caught up in the Powe-ning than ABC's Mark Jackson. After Leon's half court fast break with a big one-handed dunk down the middle, Jackson thought he saw similarities to Julius Erving.
A bit of a stretch, don't you think.
Jeff Van Gundy, who I'm enjoying more and more, didn't let Jackson get ...
YouTube of the Day: Jeff Van Gundy 'Leon Pwns' Mark Jackson
Ball Don't Lie —
Please excuse that horrific title. I watched a Jays' loss from an all-you-can-drink executive suite and attended an open-bar wedding over the weekend. My brain is barely functioning. In fact, I feel as stupid as Mark Jackson sounds this morning. "Dr. J, wherever you are listening, I apologize for my partner Mark Jackson making the statement that Leon Powe reminds him of you, in a dunk contest. That would be the most embarrassing statement uttered on the ABC airwaves." Obama, your vice president has just stepped forward, ...
Weekend Tube Review: Clearly, Powe = Dr. J
The Sporting Blog —
NBA Playoffs: ABC got huge ratings for Game One last Thursday, pulling in an average of 13.3 million viewers and receiving an 8.7 rating. The announcing team was also light years better in the first game of the Finals than they were last night, as a huge third and fourth quarter lead by the Celtics caused them to lose focus on the game itself. Before L.A.'s comeback bid began, the two analysts -- Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy -- went into their usual shtick where they poke fun at each other and joke about the other's career. The only problem was that it carried over into a Lakers 11-2 run that got them right back in a game in which they were ...
Inner Thoughts with Leon Powe
the Blowtorch —
Rajon Rondo: Here. (pump fakes, jumps, spins, and throws an off-balance pass to Leon Powe) Leon Powe: What do you want me to do with this? Dribble? Alright. I guess I can take a dribble until you’re ready. (takes a dribble) Aren’t you guys going to guard me? Phil Jackson: What is this “guarding” you speak of? Existentially, if we were to ignore this matriculation, then said matriculation would cease to exist. One need not guard that which does not exist. Leon Powe: I’ll take one more ...
Making His Point
RedsArmy.com - The Voice Of Celtics Fans —
We’ve caught some crap recently for various statements. One being the coaching matchup is overrated… yet we’re still waiting for Phil Jackson to start out-coaching Doc. Another is that Rajon Rondo needs to be in the Chris Paul/Derron Williams conversation when you’re talking about great young NBA ...

More Leon Powe
CelticsBlog —
I enjoyed the Blowtorch's "Inner Thoughts of Leon Powe" post, which was based upon his best dunk from Game 2. I didn't agree with how tentative they made Powe appear, as he's one of the most aggressive players on Boston's roster. But he is not a great dribbler. Fair enough. Either way he is awesome. And I enjoyed the recycling of Kobe ...
More From Celtics/Lakers Game 4 - Still Can't Sleep Edition
CelticsBlog —
Ray Allen's reverse lay up was ridiculous. To review. He blew by a rotating Kobe Bryant, jumped, avoided Pau Gasol's block attempt, which was a lot more of an attempt than his game 2 wave at Leon Powe and his later wave at Allen in game 4, started falling, and somehow threw squeezed a shot off between an outstretched Lamar Odom ...
2008 Men's Olympic Basketball Preview: Spain
CelticsBlog —
With the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics already in the books and basketball tipping off on the 10th, it's good that these Olympic previews are winding down. Fellow SB Nation blog At the Hive will wrap things up tomorrow with a look at a team that comes from a country which rhymes with "America". Of course you can also check out past reviews in the sidebars at both sites. I'll also give you the option of clicking on the following links: China, Greece, Russia, Argentina, Australia, Iran, Lithuania, Angola, Croatia, and Germany. Population: ...
