Les Miles Denies Calling for a Spike; Video Evidence Proves Otherwise
And The Valley Shook —
Im not sure what to make of this. Either Les is confused about the question or lying or there is some sort of severe communication issues going on in the coaching staff. Or all 3.
It doesn't matter what the truth behind this inconsistency is. It is Inexcusable.
Les Miles Told Jordan Jefferson to Spike the Ball, Then Lied About it
Larry Brown Sports —
We’ve already covered the Les Miles/LSU screw up to end the Ole Miss game at great lengths. If his mistakes weren’t enough, even google was picking on him calling him an idiot. But making matters worse is that Les Miles lied after the game, denying that the coaches instructed quarterback Jordan Jefferson to spike the ball with one second left. This video proves that Miles lied and that the coaches wanted Jefferson to spike it:
Not fessing up to your mistake after the game is understandable — nobody wants to admit ...
LSU / Ole Miss: The Judgment
Cap'n Ken's Homespun Wisdom —
If Les Miles could change the outcome of one play in LSU’s loss to Ole Miss, it might be his Tigers’ onside kick in the final minute. If Dexter McCluster grabs the ball instead of jumping away from it, Leslie would only be facing questions about his team’s performance from late in the second quarter to late in the fourth. Instead, he’s facing very real and justified questions about his competence and even his character. Without the kick recovery, LSU would not have stood at the Ole Miss 32-yard line (after an excellent screen pass to and run by Brandon LaFell), within range of Josh Jasper with 56 seconds and two timeouts remaining. Without the kick recovery, Miles and ...
Damning Video: Miles Calls For Spike, Then Denies
SPORTSbyBROOKS —
WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge shot on-field video from the end zone of Vaught-Hemingway stadium at Oxford, MS last night clearly showing Les Miles repeatedly signaling to LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson to spike (”clock“) the ball with :01 left against Ole Miss.
The above animation shows only one instance of Miles’ gesture. He made the same signal multiple times, sometimes with both hands, while running down the sideline.
Note: There is a poll within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post’s poll.
After the game, Miles claimed he did not ...
Les Miles Called For Ball To Be Spiked In Last Night's Loss To Ole Miss
FanIQ Blog —
Last night's LSU loss to Ole Miss was one of the more bizarre games you'll ever see. LSU wasted about 16 seconds before calling a timeout late in the game that likely cost them a win. They also made the bizarre choice to try and spike the football when there was only one second left on the clock. As we all know, when there's one second on the clock, spiking the ball does nothing, because the clock starts when the ball is snapped, so that's your last play. Throwing a football into the turf probably isn't the best thing to do on your last play. ...

Video: Les Miles momentarily possessed by clock-kiling poltergeist
Dr. Saturday —
If you didn't know any better, you'd think Les Miles had nothing to do with quarterback Jordan Jefferson's baffling, ill-fated decision to attempt to spike the ball with one second on the clock at the end of LSU's 25-23 loss at Ole Miss, thus ending the Tigers' comeback bid without a shot at a winning field goal or a throw into the end zone. Miles himself, after all, said after the game: "I do not know who told him to clock it. ... You cannot clock that ball. I don't know that that call was ever made." From that, we can assume the sophomore quarterback took it upon himself, in the heat of the moment, to take the only action in that situation that ...
LSU football has its own Zapruder film
SEC Chatter —
LSU football has its own Zapruder film By Paul Gattis -- The Huntsville Times November 22, 2009, 3:03PM LSU Les Miles AP LSU coach Les Miles is apparently caught on video instructing quarterback Jordan Jefferson to spike the ball. Last night, we broke down how LSU broke down in the final seconds of the 25-23 loss to Ole Miss. Included were some lengthy quotes from LSU coach Les Miles that shed virtually no light on the situation -- which, by failing to add some insight, Miles confirmed the chaos on the sidelines. Not included in those quotes, however, was Miles discussing quarterback Jordan Jefferson spiking the ball. (And, FWIW, time had expired ...

The Curious case of Les Miles
Digital Sports Daily —
Maybe Bill Bellichick is smarter than we think. After making his coaching blunder he simply said he felt it was the right thing to do. After Les Miles made his Saturday, he says he didn’t know who made that mistake.
With a second remaining Les Miles called for a spike, which ran the game clock out. A better move would have been to call in the field goal unit while the ball was being spotted by officials.
To Miles credit he did admit the loss was his fault earlier in the press conference.
“I can only tell you that the management at the back end of the game ...

Video shows LSU’s Miles calls for spike vs. Ole Miss
The Scores Report - The National Sports Blog —
Following LSU’s 25-23 loss to Ole Miss on Saturday in which Tigers quarterback Jordan Jefferson spiked the ball with :01 left remaining, Les Miles told the media that he didn’t know who instructed his signal caller to “clock” the ball.
Apparently Miles is either a liar or doesn’t have a real good memory, because it was him (thanks to SPORTSbyBROOKS.com for the video link):
This is damning evidence for Miles on several levels. Not only did he lie about what happened, but he also completely threw Jefferson under the bus by telling the media he didn’t know who told him to spike the ball. ...

You all know of my semi-retirement from penning game-related write-ups for this LSU team after what I thought was a bad karma situation last year. LSU-fueled by a record setting (in a bad way) RS Freshman Quarterback & a horrible coaching decision by Les Miles to promote Co-Defensive Coordinators-swooned from a 12-2 record & a national championship to an 8-5 season. The Tigers finished a disappointing 3-5 in conference play, with ugly losses to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, & Arkansas.
The offseason brought perhaps the best recruiting class in LSU's history, all of which were academically eligible & in school by the time Fall Camp started, as well as ...

[image] It’s a couple days ago, but it must be brought up, the absolute ineptitude of Les Miles in this weekend’s game against LSU. Let’s rundown the series of events: -After the Tigers recover an onside kick with about 1 minute remaining, They gain one first down, putting them in field goal range, but then throw incomplete on 1st down and take a sack on 2nd down, bringing up a 3rd and 19. They use their 2nd timeout with :32 seconds left. Now, why they continued to throw the ball while already in field goal range is beyond me, but Miles is notoriously agressive, so I wasn’t too surprised. -Then, on 3rd down, the Tigers run some goofy UK-esque screen that loses ...
Miles accepts blame in loss to Ole Miss
The Scores Report - The National Sports Blog —
LSU head coach Les Miles accepted blame for the Tigers’ collapse last Saturday against Ole Miss, although it appears that he isn’t accepting blame for everything.
From SI.com:
“As part of the process, I evaluate everything we do — players and coaches,” Miles continued. “I’m part of that process. I’m no different than anybody in this team room. I mismanaged the back end of the Ole Miss game.
“I’m responsible. I’m the head coach.”
The signal-caller on the sidelines (graduate assistant John Dunn) told Jefferson to spike the ball.
“To try to get the ball ...

5. Jahvid Best goes up high, comes down hard. Human beings aren't supposed to reach the altitude that Cal's star running back achieved against Oregon State on Nov. 7 without the aid of some sort of technology and safety precautions, and they're certainly not supposed to come down head-first. Thankfully, the damage wasn't quite as severe as it looked while Best lay motionless in the end zone, surrounded by a pack of trainers until he was immobilized and carted off after nearly a half-hour on the turf, but the resulting concussion and lingering back pain did effectively end ...
