South Carolina QB Stephen Garcia gets tackled by the referee
Sports Crackle Pop —
Now I am sure this was purely accidental, but in Saturday night’s ESPN game South Carolina’s Stephen Garcia was scrambling out fo the pocket when the umpire steps up and delivers a shoulder. Watching it in slow motion makes it look even more intentional.
LSU Is Apparently Using Their Extra Five-Star Recruits At Referee
AwfulAnnouncing —
I was out of the loop this past weekend, and I apologize if you've already seen this, but this referee from the LSU-USC game needed a spot here. Watch closely as this unknown official first appears to be avoiding USC QB, Steven Garcia, but then just decides to run him over for some reason.... ...
At Least Ron Cherry Never Did This
Tar Heel Fan —
This was during the LSU-SCAR game Saturday night where an SEC official inexplicably lays a shoulder into SCAR QB Stephen Garcia. And for anyone who thinks it was an accident watch as he shuffles his feet to size Garcia up then delivers the blow. It will be interesting to see how the SEC responds to this. I would think termination would be in order but given that college football officiating coordinators love spin general referee bufoonery on the field he probably gets off with just a one game suspension.

A Pudge is a Sandwich —
Saturday night, LSU ventured to Columbia, SC to play the Gamecocks of South Carolina. The Ol’ Ball Coach’s squad was driving in Tiger territory with about two minutes to go in the latter part of the first half. Cock QB Stephen Garcia was in scramble mode and cut to the outside, and then this happened: ...
Hey Ref, Enjoy Unemployment
Major League Jerk —
Can anyone tell me what is going through this guy’s mind? Seriously, the official squares his shoulders, slides his feet over and laid a hit on the ball carrier. There is no excuse to be made here. This ref needs to be fired and an investigation should take place. He had to have money on the game. I’m willing to ...
The Only Explanation
Complain In Vain —
We weren’t aware of this, but apparently those awful Buffalo Wild Wings commercials are filmed live. You know, the ones where the manager brings in the bad pitcher, or the ref sends the football game into overtime. Yep, filmed live. How else do you explain this?
So What's The Deal With That Tacklin' SEC Ref? [College Football]
Deadspin —
The most frequently submitted tip over the last 48 hours or so is the YouTube clip of that lunatic umpire who lowered the boom on South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia as he tried to run for a touchdown against LSU. For a good while, I didn't even believe it was real. It had to be one of those fake commercials for some kind of energy bar or light beer, right? Plus, even though every blog on the planet had the footage, there didn't seem to be any mention of it in your "normal" media outlets—not even the AP game recap thought it was worth mentioning. Yet, it did happen and anyone who has seen the video has to be asking, "What ...
YouTube: When life imitates a beer commercial
Randball —
Via Deadspin comes a rather suspicious looking play in a recent game between South Carolina and LSU, when an official — in Bud Light fashion — makes a devastating hit on South Carolina QB Stephen Garcia as he tries to turn the corner at LSU’s 5 yard line. (The Gamecocks lost by 7, but they did score a touchdown on that drive, so it did not really impact the final outcome). Obviously, it’s hard to prove intent , and obviously the angle and whatnot can always alter the reality of things, but, well, you look at it and tell us what you think: This entry was posted on Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 at 1:00 pm and is filed under ...

As you’ve no doubt seen by now, Gamecocks quarterback Stephen Garcia (this guy) was stopped on a quarterback draw in the red zone by umpire Wilbur Hackett Jr during LSU’s 24-17 victory on Saturday. While it certainly looks like Hackett leans into Garcia with a shoulder to drop him after a four-yard gain, SEC officials claim otherwise:
“The umpire’s most vulnerable position on the field is right behind the line of scrimmage and sometimes gets right into the play. In this case, the umpire is there, he tries to defend ...
Duke Preston Is A Lucky Man
Complain In Vain —
Why is that? Duke Preston is the Buffalo Bills’ offensive lineman who leveled ref Jeff Triplette on Sunday while chasing a fumble. Tripette did not see the hit coming and his face hit the turf pretty hard (see bottom right). ref So why is Preston lucky? Because if that ref had been Wilbur Hackett, Jr., the end result would have been totally different.

My sincerest apologies to Arsenal fans who were looking forward to a future that included the ‘Molodvan Magician’ Masal Bugduv, because you, like many others, have been had. Even the media’s big boys can get taken along for a ride, which is karma’s way of making them pay for trying to do the same to many of us on a daily basis.
I’d like to buy a night’s worth of pints for Fredo for doing his research, and I’d also like to do the same for the person who came up with this little hoax, because if you can get the big papers going, you deserve it.

Deciding Rodney Harrison’s Future
Comcast SportsNet New England » Wicked Good Sports —
As expected, Rodney Harrison officially hung up his blood-stained cleats this morning. During the same conference call, he also announced that he will be joining NBC as an NFL analyst for the upcoming season.
Here’s a glimpse at what you can expect out of Rodney Harrison behind the mic:
Eh, not bad.
I love the shot at Deion, but overall it sounds and looks like Rodney’s reporting with a couple footballs crammed up his backside.
Personally, I think he’s better off pursuing the path of the zebra. ...
