Worst of Game 1 of the 2008 NBA Finals
Basketbawful — Kobe Bryant: Ah, sweet Mamba...how I've missed thee. He struck for 24 points on 26 shots while shooting only 34 percent from the field. He had 6 assists -- most of which came in the first half -- but also committed a game-high (tied with Ray Allen) 4 turnovers. For what it's worth, he also had by far the worst +/- score on the team (-13). Unless I'm very much mistaken, Kobe tried to use his patented "Defer to my teammates in the first half, then turn it on in the second half" strategy. Only he never really turned it on. And, as pointed out on TrueHoop today, he was clearly getting frustrated and gave at least ...

Magic Johnson / Larry Bird: There Can Only Be One
FanIQ Blog — When the NBA first began running these There Can Only Be One playoff spots I found them captivating and wanted to see more. Seeing more is what we got, and then some. From a different matchup in every playoff series, to the inevitable run of hilarious spoofs, the one side by side image we failed to see all along were two old school players. That is, until last night. We should have guessed. Here's Magic Johnson and Larry Bird doing there intense talking thing. Good to see those guys together again. If you watched Magic's reaction to the commercial during halftime of Game 1, you ...

YouTube of the Day: Magic and Bird's 'There Can Only Be One'
Ball Don't Lie — Kudos to the NBA for featuring Magic Johnson and Larry Bird in their latest 'There Can Only Be One' spot. It couldn't have been easy trying to squeeze those two back into their game jerseys. And short-shorts. Rivalries never die. Blond mustaches do. After the jump, the 'There Can Only Be One' commercial the NBA didn't want you to see. (High fives and contact lenses to With Leather for their demented photoshop magic.)

NBA FINALS. Boston 1 Lakers 0
(Obsolete Feed) — So Game 1 is in the books. The Boston Celtics beat the Lakers 98-88 last night. I stayed up to watch besides having to get up early for work this morning. 9 pm start times? In Boston? NOT understanding but oh well. The game did live up to a little of what we hoped for (Sorry. I was rooting for the Lakers). Let's discuss 5 entertaining things that happened during ...

Between Game Thoughts
LOY's PLACE a celtics green blog — So much is being made of Pierce's return after the injury. Phil Jackson's classless remarks reminded me why I really don't like the guy. The 2008 NBA Playoff Recap: What We Learned [Nba Season Wrapup]
Deadspin — The 2008 NBA playoffs did more than just entertain us for the last seven or eight months. It taught us stuff. Some stuff we only suspected, and some other stuff we never even knew before. Here is that stuff. The Atlanta Hawks have fans...real, flesh-and-blood fans. Boston fans, on the other hand, apparently are bandwagon jumpers. The NBA will not tolerate "menacing" hand gestures. Ever. Kevin Garnett never forgets. "Third person" is LeBron James' preferred method of speaking. Basketball and rapper slap-fights can go hand-in-hand. Trash-talking Lebron James does ...

The Main X-Mas Day Matchup: Take a Guess
SLAM Online — by Marcel Mutoni Give up? Actually, it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out who’ll be playing on one of the League’s marquee nights if you’ve been paying attention to the NBA (and its manic obsession with ratings) over the last few years. Of course we’re getting the Celtics vs. Lakers on Dec. 25th. Who else could it possibly be? From the Boston Herald (via Sports Media Watch): The world-champion Boston Celtics will meet their NBA Finals rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, at the Staples Center on Christmas Day. Ho, ho, ho. ...

I tried to get this up during the live-blog but couldn't so here it is now. The Magic-Bird split screen commercial in all it's awkwardness....
