MANNY RAMIREZ IS BASEBALL'S IDIOT SAVANT
Published 5/15/2008 at With Leather - Sports news and gossip for people who are all, like, "Whatever."
As noted every but here today, Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez had a typically Mannyesque play last night when he made an impressive running catch on the warning track, climbed up the wall to high-five some fans, then made a throw to double off the runner on first (video here). As a tribute to "Manny being himself," as people like to say, SportsCenter compiled the slugger's strangest moments on and off the diamond. I admit: I laughed out loud at a couple of these, and I usually don't laugh at anything. Except ...

Manny's high-fiver speaks out

In a way that few things can, Manny Ramirez's ridiculous/ridiculously awesome catch-high-five-double-play-throw sequence set the Internet on fire yesterday. Fortunately, in my digging around Google Blog Search last night, I came across something new and huge: An Oklahoma blog has tracked down the fan Manny Ramirez purportedly high-fived, posting a pretty hysterical Q session . Of note: Randy Dunning is a Red Sox fan from Oklahoma who was in Maryland for the week visiting his parents. Oh, and his parents got him the tickets as a gift before he ships off for Officer Candidate School with the ...
A Collection Of Manny Being Manny Moments
Published 5/16/2008 at FanIQ Blog
With all the Manny hysteria of late, ESPN's Baseball Tonight decided to track down as many "Manny Being Manny" moments as they could. Apparently they compiled 28 minutes of such craziness, but had to chop it down to about 3 minutes.
Personally, I'd like to see the full 28 minutes. But that said, this definitely do.
I think my favorite thing is Ramirez's first career hit. It was a ground rule double that never even came close to going out of the park. Manny naturally thought he'd hit a home run and continued past 2nd. ...
Manny Ramirez: A Retrospective
Published 5/16/2008 by The Omnipotent Q (noreply@blogger.com) at The Mighty Quinn Media Machine
MLB yanked the "Oriole Magic" YouTube clip, claiming some ownership privilege. But my buddy Dave sent me a link to the Awful Announcing web site, who posted a clip from ESPN of the Baseball Tonight crew, who did a "Best of Manny Being Manny" retrospective. It's the best of Manny Ramirez in all his goofiness, as well as some of his very best outfield plays. I missed it when it was first broadcast. I hope no one yanks this. Enjoy.
BASEBALL: Manny Being Manny

In lieu of your regularly scheduled Mets-Yankees matchup - it's somehow emblematic of these two teams' 2008 season that they should be rained out - I give you the very best of Manny Ramirez:
Inspired by this play, on which he managed to give a high five to a fan in the middle of a play (in case you missed that, too). H/T here and here.
