Marv Albert Shows Joe Buck How To Make A Memorable Call
Published 2/9/2008 by Awful Announcing- at Awful Announcing
When I first posted the David Tyree catch and proclaimed how terrible Joe Buck's call was, I asked you to imagine Gus Johnson (or anyone for that matter with emotion) calling that same play. Well thanks to LBMS I was able to take Marv Albert's radio call of the play and add it in with the video. Let's watch that play again.... I'm not even going to post the Joe Buck call again because it will just make me mad, but here's Bill Simmons' take on the call.... If you're a play-by-play announcer and you can't get excited for a play like that, then ...
Marv Albert's Great Manning-to-Tyree Call

Filed under: NY Giants, NFL Video, NFL Media Watch, Super Bowl, New YorkAlthough I thought Joe Buck of Fox did solid work during Super Bowl XLII, I must agree with Awful Announcing and say that Marv Albert, who was calling the Super Bowl on the radio, did a better job than Buck of calling the instant classic Manning to Tyree play: Albert and Buck both noted that Eli Manning faced pressure at the start of the play and that David Tyree made a spectacular catch at the end of the play. But Albert had a bit more excitement in his ...

Awful Announcing has done us all a huge favor, dubbing Marv Albert's radio call over Joe Buck's montonous TV call of the Eli Manning to David Tyree play in the Super Bowl. Buck is atrocious when it comes to football, and Albert's call really puts him to shame. Besides, it gives us all another excuse to watch the play.
Give Me More Game 7's

In our last two title games, (The Super Bowl and the Final Four) we had two of the most exciting plays in recent memory. Just in case you've had your head in the sand here they are: David Tyree's catch.... And Mario Chalmers nailing the three.... It did get me to thinking that one of the things that made these plays so special was the fact that they both occured during a "sudden death" situation. Had either of these plays happened in the second game of a seven game series, they wouldn't have had the same impact. In both cases, I believe the other team would have won if they faced each other ...
