D-Backs recall Max Scherzer, option Petit to AAA
Published 4/27/2008 by David Golebiewski at The Transaction Guy
The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled righthander Max Scherzer from Triple-A Tucson. Scherzer, 23, was selected out of Missouri with the 11th overall pick in the 2006 amateur draft. Scherzer, who pitched for the independent Fort Worth Cats while holding out for a larger bonus, nearly re-entered the 2007 draft. However, the Diamondbacks eventually opened up the wallet, giving Scherzer $4.3M in guaranteed money with $1.5M in incentives available. In 23 innings for Triple-A Tucson, Scherzer posted a 1.17 ERA while compiling an eye-popping 38/3 K/BB ratio.
To make room for Scherzer, the Diamondbacks optioned righthander Yusmeiro Petit to Tucson. ...

University of Missouri ace Max Scherzer was Arizona's first round pick in 2006, 11th overall. He pulled the "go to indy ball and sign late" stunt pioneered by Scott Boras, though he eventually signed before re-entering the draft pool.
Scherzer began 2007 with independent Forth Worth, posting a 25/4 K/BB in 16 innings with a 0.56 ERA. ...

Right down this name: Max Scherzer. Scherzer is a starting pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks who hasn’t even made his first start, yet he has the baseball world buzzing. He has an electric fastball, a deadly changeup and two different colored eyes. The 23-year-old was drafted with the 11th overall pick by the Diamondbacks in the 2006 draft. It's Derby time again - that annual celebration in the city of Louisville where we blow off work for a couple days, drink way more than we should, and end up dirt-poor and severely hungover. -- Max Scherzer is apparently getting the start next Monday, in favor of Edgar Gonzalez. This just keeps getting worse and worse for attentive Yahoo owners. Perhaps the only reason that people wouldn't use a high waiver pick on Scherzer was the fear that he'd be used as a middle reliever for the indefinite future. Now? He's probably going with the number one waiver pick in 90+% of leagues. -- ...Max Scherzer Bio
