John Calipari Would Prefer Players Get Credited With Points They Didn't Earn
Published 4/8/2008 at FanIQ Blog
I was pleasantly surprised with the tune of John Calipari's post game interview with the lovely Sam Ryan. He was saying all the right things, taking the blame off his players and putting it on himself (foul!11!) and giving the necessary respect to Kansas. THEN, the Derrick Rose shot was brought up and he lost me with some sour grapes. "Yeah, I don't like this being able to go to the monitor. I'm going to try and get that changed now." I understand the frustration, John, but Derrick Rose clearly had a foot inside the line. It was a two-point field goal. What's ...

Calipari Doesn't Like the Refs' Stupid Monitors

By Chris Mottram Here is Coach Cal after last night's loss taking a firm stance against referees getting calls correct (shhh, 12-inch voice zone): "Yeah, I don't like this being able to go to the monitor. I'm going to try to get that changed now." Good luck with that, Johnny. He did give a little smirk there, which means he could have been joking. But more likely, that was just him being his typical, smarmy self. And can Calipari please stop claiming that they were trying to foul Kansas? Because they weren't. Maybe he wanted them to, but none of his players got that message. Perhaps a timeout was in order ...

Rock Chalk Championship
All season we'd heard the same thing about Memphis. Great team, but their free throw shooting is going to kill them at some point in the tournament. I know it was the reason I didn't have them getting to the Final Four, and all season Memphis coach John Calipari said his team would make them when they mattered. Nobody believed him. Then the tournament started, and what do you know, the
The Gummy Bear Defense
Hey, if you can’t stop Memphis uber-frosh Derrick Rose using traditional definitions of defense, denial and hard work, why not just make sure he gets an upset tummy off of a diet of gummy bears, starburst and sour straws.
