Big Night for the Big Ten
The March to Madness —
News item: No. 4 UCLA falls to Michigan, 55-52, at Madison Square. Reaction: Is anybody really surprised? The Bruins had their hands full last week in a narrow victory over Miami (Ohio), and it was clear UCLA had serious problems, especially in the post. Even the gang at Bruins Nation saw it coming. We shall see what Michigan is made of Friday night when it plays Duke. The other major score for the Big Ten came in Nashville, where Illinois ended Vanderbilt's 20-game home winning streak. We keep hearing about all that SEC speed on the football field. ...
Pac-10 Favorite and Perennial Final Four Loser UCLA Drops a Shocker to Lowly Michigan, 55-52
The Big Lead —
When the Pac-10 predictions came out, and UCLA was atop the league, we wondered why. When an analyst selected Darren Collison as the top point guard in the country, we were briefly taken aback. Why’s everyone on the jock of a team that lost three starters to the NBA, including its best two scoring options?
After a receiving a scare from Miami (Ohio) last time out, overrated UCLA, ranked fourth, lost to unranked Michigan last night at MSG, 55-52. Michigan’s Upset Of UCLA : Is There Really No Way Rich Rodriguez Can Take Credit For This?
Can't Stop The Bleeding —
“When, EVER, has a Michigan basketball game upstaged the UM-OSU football game?” asks Straight Banging’s Joey. The answer of course, came last night at the World’s Most Dysfunctional Arena. All of a sudden, my ticket for the Bruins’ December 4 visit to Austin seems just a bit less attractive as StubHub fodder.
Houston Baptist, No Problem
DETROIT4LYFE —
On Friday night in Crisler Arena the Michigan Wolverines took on the Huskies from Houston Baptist University (HB). Apparently HB is a member of the Great West conference. Because the Great West is a relatively new DI basketball conference its members won't be able to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament until about 2043 give or take 20 years. I know you're all counting down the days. Anyways, it took UofM until the 10 minute mark in the first half to pull away from HB. If there was ever an example of a team playing down to its level of competition, that example was Michigan in the opening 10 minutes. It wasn't as if the Huskies were forcing Michigan to do ...
