Debate: Mike Richards Hit on David Booth
Hockey From the Cheap Seats —
We’ll find out today or tomorrow if Colin Campbell plans to suspend Flyers captain Mike Richards for this hit on David Booth. Do you think this was a clean hit? Dirty? Do you think it makes a difference that David Booth spent the night in the hospital for observation?
Take a look at the hit and judge for yourself. ...
JVR Scores 1st NHL Goal; Richards Hits Booth - Will He Be Suspended?
Broad Street Bulletin —
The Flyers held the Florida Panthers to just 18-shots on goal, JVR scored his first NHL goal, Briere picked up two goals, and Mike Richards received a game misconduct for a hit that left Panthers' Forward David Booth unconscious. The Flyers won 5-1 and are now 5-2-1.
The Flyers played solid, out-shooting the Panthers 38-18
Ray Emery looked good, allowing 1-goal
The Flyers scored on 2-of-5 power play opportunities - nice!
They killed off all 5 penalties - also nice - and good to see the number of penalties low. ...

During the second period of Saturday's Flyers/Panthers match-up, Mike Richards put a punishing hit on Panthers' forward David Booth, leaving him unconscious.
Booth was carrying the puck through center ice when Richards landed his shoulder to Booth's head. Booth ...
Speaking Of Brutal Hits….
Tirico Suave —
Did you happen to catch the Flyers’ Michael Richards helping Florida’s David Booth transform from human being to inanimate object? No? Oh you’re one of those dicks that doesn’t watch hockey for some unknown, absurd reason. Well then, here you go.
Somewhere, Paul Kariya just shuddered and he doesn’t know why.
Old Time Hockey
The Rat Trick | A Florida Panthers Blog —
There were some very big hits this weekend. One suspension has already been handed down, another was not given, and a meeting Tuesday regarding a third. You decide if the NHL gets it right. This one got Scuderi a suspension. Ott has a hearing on Tuesday for this one. We all know that Richards will not be suspended for this. For old time sakes remember this hit on Eric Lindros? Or this one by Brian Campbell: Last here’s Jim Johnson flagrantly hitting Jeremy Roenick: While not everyone of these hits resulted in a suspension, or penalty, the common theme with everyone of the except for the Richards hit on Booth is that a scrum of some sort followed ...
Weekend at Bettman’s, October 24-25
Melt Your Face Off —
[image] Hockey season is finally upon us. But damn it, weekends exist all year round. And just because the NHL has decided to schedule games on said weekend doesn’t mean our schedules are magically freed up for 24/7 snark. We’ve got basements to cleans, and our respective mothers learned everything they know from Mike Keenan. So on Monday mornings, you will get a recap post and a picture of noted thespian Terry Kiser. Enjoy. The NHL scheduled all thirty teams to be in action on Saturday (must to the chagrin of MNHLE). And coincidentally, whether by luck or intelligent marketing design, all the NHL Center Ice channels on my digital cable were TURNED ...

Hits to the Head (and all the headaches that come with making rules about them)
Cycle like the Sedins —
Part 1 You may not recall this, but the original concept of CLS focused on dissecting the NHL's biggest issues in a round table format. Instead, the blog morphed into something that is often much better. Still, though, now ...
Ducks' Wisniewski suspended two games - 11-2-09
Empty Netters —
The Penguins won't have to worry about Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski (above) tomorrow night. He was suspended for two games by the NHL for this hit to Coyotes forward Shane Doan:
Doan later returned to the game and even fought Wisniewski in retaliation for the hit.
In nine games this season, Wisniewski has nine assists and is a plus-6.
EN Says: The league ruled Wisniewski struck Doan in the head with a forearm. Fine. You can't hit someone in the head with a forearm. But why does that offense merit a suspension while the ...
Suspension for this?
The Rat Trick | A Florida Panthers Blog —
This hit by Calgary Flames forward Curtis Glenncross on the Ranger’s Chris Drury drew a 3 game suspension for Glencross. Take a look at this hit, and then look at the hit by Mike Richards again on David Booth below. Glenncross gets 3 games for his hit and Richards gets none. I am not here to debate whether the hits were clean, dirty etc. I am here to say that the NHL better take a real hard look at how they are determining what type of hit warrants a suspension and what type of hit does not. You judge for yourself. I’m curious as to your thoughts. Thanks for reading. Cheers
Guest Blogger Reid Simpson on dangerous hits: 'I don't believe you can punish players for injuries resulting from their actions'
Puck Daddy —
(Ed. Note: Reid Simpson was a 12-year NHL veteran with nine teams, including the New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators. With 838 penalty minutes in 301 NHL games, he played a physical brand of hockey. Reid's been keeping up with the hits-to-the-head/supplemental discipline debates and had something to say about it. We offered a forum for an informed, distinct take. Enjoy, comment. ) By Reid Simpson I can't help but watch hits in today's game, see the suspensions handed out for them and just go, "Wow." I agree there have been some ...
Game Day Notes: vs. Florida
On the Wings —
Notes on tonight’s game against the Panthers.
… The Panthers are predictably low in the standings, having posted an 8-9-2 record thus far this season. Their 18 points are good for 13th in the East, but are still significantly more respectable than the ‘Canes 13 or the Leafs’ 12.
… They are coming off a 6-2 win over the Sabres Wednesday night. They managed to get four goals on Miller, which is not something that’s easy to do. So, they have it in them to be dangerous.
… The Panthers will be without Nick Tarnasky (broken face) and David Booth (concussion) tonight. It’s the latter ...

The NHL is a Dick and Fart Joke
Clark & Heptner (The Suburban Rob Rossis) —
David Booth, taken off the ice on a stretcher and misses the next 16 games. Mike Richards not suspended. Matt Cooke hit on Artem Anisimov (sorry, cant find video because it wasnt that bad) Anisimov skates off the ice, little dizzy, no worse for wear. Matt Cooke suspended 2 games. Sean Avery jumps Fedotenko like a recess school bully...nothing from the league. Dear Bettman and Campbell, This is why you funcking dumbasses are the managers of a 2nd tier sport with first tier sport action. You two are fucking jokes and this league will always be a joke until you ...
