Videos Before Bedtime...
The Program —
Another collection of videos of that night that was the National Hockey League. Now it is bedtime for all!!! A strange game indeed.... Dustin Brown dumps Robidas into the bench! Craig Conroy puts it in his own net! Ruutu with an elbow to the head + more!! A "Star" of a move!! Have a great ...
Good night: Well if it isn’t the infamous Jordan Staal
The Two-Line Pass —
The Lead
Jordan Staal had five points in 14 games coming into tonight’s tilt with the Stanley Cup Champion Red Wings.
But tonight, Staal nearly doubled his season output by recording a third-period hat trick and assisting on the game-winner to help the Penguins to an improbable, wild 7-6 overtime win in Detroit. His three goals came within a space of 11:28, sandwiching a Jiri Hudler tally, to first cut the Detroit lead to 5-4, then cut it to 6-5 and level with just 23 seconds on the clock.
It was cuh-razy and it’s sweet redemption for Staal, if only for just tonight. After his stellar rookie season in which he scored 29 ...
Hit/Fight of the night: Dustin Brown's humbling night vs. Dallas
Puck Daddy —
The body check that sends an opponent over the boards and into a foreign bench is one of our favorite hockey indignations, along with the shorthanded three-on-one breakaway and losing to the Islanders. Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown had a hit on Stephane Robidas of the Dallas Stars last night that sent the defenseman into the Kings' bench and the Staples Center into hysterics. Seriously, the crowd was buzzing for the next five minutes, like a "Springer" audience that just witnessed someone's wig coming off in a tussle. You can't really see it in the video clip all that well, but the ...
Ribeiro's ridiculous shootout goal
From The Rink —
The Kings ended up winning the shootout, so their protest was muted after the game, but after Mike Ribeiro scored this goal last night, there was a bit of a delay as the Los Angeles bench went crazy.
As it stands now, however, this is a legal goal. The real question? How on earth does a goaltender stop it?
Another grand performance in the circus.

Should this move be allowed in the shootout? ...
Mike Ribeiro Scores An Amazing Shootout Goal, Between The Legs, One Handed, Stars Still Lose [NHL Highlights]
FanIQ Blog —
Towards the end of regulation of the LA Kings and Dallas Stars on Tuesday, which ended in a tie at 2, Mike Ribeiro of the Stars was hammered into the boards head first by the Kings' Brown, resulting in a bloodied Ribeiro.
The shootout ensued with the Kings' Rookie Wayne Simmonds scoring first. Then Mike Ribeiro came on the ice, a bit unexpected after his injury, and showed off a seriously cool move to score a goal! At first, it appeared he lost control of the puck, however after the replay, it shows that he had complete control of the puck, sliding it between ...
Mike Ribero's One Handed Shootout Deke
FanHouse —
by Eric McErlain Filed under: Kings, Stars, NHL Videos I don't really know what else there is to say about this move that Dallas Stars winger Mike Ribero pulled in the shootout against the Los Angeles Kings last night -- though Derek Armstrong of the Kings took exception to Ribero's actions after he scored the goal. Rich Hammond from Inside the Kings has the scoop. (HT Puck Daddy) Mike Ribero's One Handed Shootout Deke originally appeared on Fanhouse NHL Blog on Wed, 12 Nov 2008 22:23:00 EST . Outing the Shootout
Cycle like the Sedins —
Sometimes Google Image Searches now better than I In an attempt to be persuasive, some people go a little bit overboard. Maybe they'll distort facts or use statistics selectively. Perhaps, instead, it will lead to an attack on a person's credibility. Or simply an attack. But in most situations of debate (heated or otherwise), ...

Video: Counting down the top 10 goals of 2008
Puck Daddy —
(Ed. Note: No Puck Headlines tonight through Sunday. Wyshynski and Leahy are spending some quality time with friends and in the bottom of several bottles. The good news: Our Winter Classic live blog will by a simulcast of the one on SBN featuring blogging deity James Mirtle and his merry gang of pranksters. Please join in the fun; it's going to be epic. Then, on Friday, we have a really cool treat: A first-person essay and photo-log from Kevin Kaduk of Big League Stew's Winter Classic adventure. Video: Kopitar's sick goal aside, does shootout really entertain?
Puck Daddy —
Our feelings about the shootout as an inferior mechanism to determine victory are well-established. But we continue to discover new and exciting ways for it to let us down. Take last night's incredible shootout tally from Anze Kopitar of the Los Angeles Kings against Marty Turco of the Dallas Stars in the Kings' 1-0 win: Close to a triple-deke in front of the crease before backhanding the puck into an open net. It's awesome ... ... if also a little familiar. Daryl "Razor" Reaugh is one of the best color commentators in hockey, and he proved that again in the clip by immediately recalling some ...
The Best Dialogue Yet
Bangin Panger —
First off, if you haven't seen the video, do so now. Now that you've seen Ben Eager cross check Luongo in the face, we have a Dialogue to do. This comes in 2 parts, the first image is all 6 guys hangin' in the penalty box; Havlat, Kane, Keith, Byflugien, Cam Barker, and Dave Bolland. And obviously they're talking shit on Mr. Bieksa here, who does his best Mike Ribeiro impression, but what's he sayin'? OMG YOU DECIDE. Dialogue it. ...
Pass or Fail: Did Riberio's shootout circus trick cross the line?
Puck Daddy —
We've seen Dallas Stars forward Mike Riberio pull some magic out of his trick bag during shootouts. Exhibit A is here. Exhibit B is here. And a not so successful Exhibit C here. During last night's shootout against the Colorado Avalanche was definitely his most creative and jaw-dropping. Extra footage on YouTube is here. Granted, Riberio got help from some sweet backspin, but full marks for creativity for the shootout-deciding tally. Poor Peter Budaj. It was like Tiger Woods laying up a shot from the fairway onto the green with the backspin that was involved. Did Riberio go too far in a ...

Mike Ribeiro Goes Between the Legs with Shootout Goal
Larry Brown Sports —
It’s the goal that you’ve all been waiting for … Mike Ribeiro of the Stars goes between his legs at the last moment to beat Peter Budaj of the Avalanche in a shootout. Must see TV:
We’ve had some really good goals this year — the Richard Zednik airborne goal was one of them — and this was every bit as good. The Alexander Ovechkin goal from a few years ago still is up there on my list of favorites. Wonder if Ribeiro’s starting a new trend here and why nobody made as big of a deal when he did ...
Dallas Stars Friday Favorites
Defending Big D —
I've tinkered with several Friday night features, usually reserving this space to rant about something non-hockey related. I think I'm going to turn this spot in the offseason into a time where we look back at the most memorable moments in Dallas Stars history.
Tonight we start fairly recent, with a pair of Mike Ribeiro shootout goals from last season.
