The 49ers, Vernon Davis, and Mike Singletary
The Big Lead —
Vernon Davis: The 49ers have known this athletic freak is a punk for a long time. (What’s the deal with crazy Maryland football players? Merriman, anyone?) Remember when Davis fought at teammate, and kicked him when he was down? We can’t find video of his foolish slap of a Seahawks player from Sunday’s game that drew a 15-yard flag and then the anger of new coach Mike Singletary, but it is the height of stupidity, especially when trailing late in the game. Blame the ownership. Bill Walsh must be rolling over in his grave. (Mercury News) [EDIT: OMG. Hot Clicks has found one of ...

The Machines Shall Rise, And All Will Fall [Weekly Buzzsaw Countdown]
Deadspin —
All right, so the world is imploding. You know this. I know this too, though only because the Wassup Guys told me. Surely, these are the last days, before the global apocalypse rids the planet of humans and leaves only some cockroaches, a few stray strands of hair and, of course, Kermit, because Kermit is an indestructible force of shocking malevolence. This is not the way I thought it would go down. I assumed, like the rest of you, it would be the robots. It was always a relief, actually, knowing that Artificial Intelligence Technology would not progress enough in my lifetime to force me to spend my last seconds staring into these cold ...
49ers-Jets Statistical Preview: Near, Favre, Wherever You Are
Niners Nation —
The 49ers welcome their nemesis, Brett Favre, to San Francisco this week in a game that has far more in the way of playoff implications for the Jets than it does for the Niners (sigh). The fact that the 8-4 Jets are playing a meaningful game during December is quite a turn of events considering that they were 3-9 at the same point last season. The conventional wisdom says that this 5-game improvement is the direct, tangible result of replacing Chad Pennington (and Kellen Clemens) with Favre. The opposite can be said of Favre's former team: With Favre last year, the Packers were 10-2 through 12 games; without Favre this year, they're 5-7. If you haven't ...

Next Season Sports —
[image] In Mike Singletary's first game as head coach of the 49ers, he went up against Seattle and watched his team get whipped 34-13. During the loss, he kicked TE Vernon Davis off the field and proceeded to have a classic rant after the game. It hasn't been made into a Coors Light commercial yet, so some folks decided to film the parody themselves. Here are two commercial parodies followed by the original press conference in all its glory. Hopefully, San Fransisco's next game against Seattle will give cause for an even greater meltdown from the temperamental coach. To continue... Original press conference Reach Jeff Richards at ...
How One Player Can Change Your Opinion of a Team.
Beers with Boggs —
First off, I’ve been a die-hard Cowboys fan since I was 7 after they defeated Bill Cowher and the Steelers in the ‘95 Superbowl. However, aside from Dallas, I do cheer for a few other teams because I like a player or coach on the squad: the Broncos and DJ Williams, the Dolphins and the legendary Big Tuna, the Colts and Manning, the Saints and Bush/Vilma/Brees, or the Vikings and Adrian Peterson to name a few. Whenever the ‘Boys have a bye or aren’t playing at the time I try to watch one of these other teams as much as possible. However unlike the Cowboys, who no matter what they do I will follow religiously, my appreciation for ...
