Douglass C. Perry Yeah, that was awesome. Boy, he was PISSED OFF! Did he almost blow the microphone off its stand? That man was bellowing! Awesome. Love it. I can't want to see the 49ers in two weeks. I hope he transfers over the anger, intensity, and desire to win over to these guys. They need a serious kick in the ass.
Mike Singletary Full Post Game Press Conference..Classic Material
Robert Littal Presents The Infamous BlackSportsOnline —
Honestly I am frighten of Mike Singletary. If I am a player on the 49ers right now when I come to work on Monday I know I better:
1- Be a team player.
2- Be working my ass off.
3- Keep my mouth shut and just do my job.
Vernon Davis is a classic example of a player who thought he was entitled to everything because he was a high 1st round draft pick. I guarantee you right now he has come to the conclusion that we all have. It doesn't matter if you are a #1 pick or a street free agent Mike Singletary are going to play the best players and when I say best "best players" I ...

Gotta love Samurai Mike. This is the press conference after his first game today, a loss at home to the dreadful Seattle Seahawks. Speed Read: LaBelle Spell Can’t Quell Philadelphia
SPORTSbyBROOKS —
Philadelphia just can’t catch a break. First Game 3 was pushed back because of little black rain clouds and very very frightening thunderbolts of lightning, and the conclusion wasn’t until well after 2 a.m. EST. Sunday night’s Game 4, meanwhile, was delayed by Patti LaBelle’s 2-minute-28-second rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner.”
While jazz legend “Bleeding Gums” Murphy might be a fan of such renditions, ALLENTOWN MORNING CALL sports editor Keith Groller was soon pining for the Backstreet Boys’ version. Some did ...

Video: Mike Singletary Blows Up at Press Conference, Kicks Out Vernon Davis
Larry Brown Sports —
It only took one game for me to learn something about Mike Singletary: I really like him as a head coach. It’s not for something stupid like his blowup/meltdown at the post-game press conference — it’s for standing up to a player and sending the message that the team is bigger than the player. This is a guy who has been there before and played the game the right way; he’s trying to pass that down to his team. This is honestly the way all locker rooms in all sports should be run (specifically the two-minute part of the video):
If you’re not sure ...
San Francisco 49ers Interim Head Coach Mike Singletary Rant About Vernon Davis
FanIQ Blog —
So how did he do on Day 1? While the score may have been dreadful (the 49ers lost to the equally sad Seahawks 34-13), Mike Singletary sure did make an impression that fans and players alike have a lot to be excited for. Not only did he throw out the most talented player on the team, Vernon Davis, (who apparently thinks he still didn't do anything wrong) after an unnecessary roughness penalty and to compound that with a nonchalant/uncaring attitude on the bench, Singletary also had a post-game press conference that Jim Mora would be proud of.
While this is Mike's first head coaching experience, he has been ...

OK, so this morning I figured I should find a picture of Joe Blanton's wife-- seeing as ballplayers all have trophy wives, and last night Blanton pitched a gem and was the first pitcher to homer in the World Series since 1974. Unfortunately, the only picture of Blanton with a woman that I could find was this one of him and Nick Swisher with some girls, which isn't exactly what I look for with the Obligatory Sports Babe. So then I thought, OK, she's wearing glasses, maybe I'll just search for pictures of girls wearing glasses. This didn't exactly work out either, because I couldn't help thinking of ...

Batter's Box Interactive Magazine —
The Philadelphia Phillies, the losingest franchise in all of pro sports, are just one win away from the World Series title after a 10-2 beatdown of the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 4 last night.
Once again, the formula for this year's World Series is score first, you win. The Phillies again scored first as Pat Burrell drew a bases loaded walk in the first and went up 2-0 on a Pedro Feliz RBI single in the third. Carl Crawford put Tampa on the board with a solo shot off Joe Blanton in the fourth but the Phillies salted this one away in the fifth as Ryan ...

Mike Singletary’s Bleary-Eyed Presser
MOUTHPIECE Blog // A Chicago-Addled Sports Blog —
I caught part of the above Mike Singletary postgame press conference live yesterday (vid ht: BSO), and thought one thing to myself: This man seems a bit agitated. And sort of insane. He also looks like he’s about the jump out from behind the podium and tackle the nearest reporter.
Much of the ire in that opening statement came from his feelings towards Vernon Davis, who decided it would be a good idea to tap on Seahawk free safety Brian Russell’s facemask in the third quarter. He got an unnecessary-roughness penalty for that. Singletary promptly ripped him out of the game and sent him to the ...

Ok so yesterday must have been a tough day for 49ers head coach Mike Singletary. First his day starts off innocently enough with this interview.
Ok so he had an airhead girl interviewing him. He can move on and have a productive day after that right? Wrong.
During the 49ers loss to the Seahawks, Mike and his young tight end Vernon Davis got into it after Vernon got a pretty stupid penalty.
Well after Mike went over and had a word with him, Davis took his stuff and left for the locker room and didn't return, I imagine that he probably cried back there.
The video below is the press conference after the ...

Being a sideline reporter isn’t exactly the hardest job in the world, nor is it really that necessary. I mean, when a player gets injured and then heads to the locker room, they show it on the broadcast. There really is no need to go to Suzy Kolber and ask her for news on it when all she is going to say is “He’s gone back to the locker room for further evaluation.” We know, we saw it.
Still, networks know that a nice way to keep that male demographic they cherish so much watching is by putting some eye candy on the screen. It’s why Erin Andrews is so popular, but at least in ...

As seen most everywhere by now, here’s 49ers interim coach Mike Singletary showing his displeasure with the team (and especially tight end Vernon Davis) after yesterday’s blowout at the hands of the Seahawks [Ed. note: HOORAY!]. This was after he’d benched Davis, then sent him to the locker room, then apologized to the fans as he left the field, then rejected Davis’s apology. I kinda get the feeling that Singletary really cares about having the right attitude. It might not motivate a team as effectively as wearing a suit like Mike Nolan, but the Niners are desperate ...

Stud of the Week – 49ers Head Coach Mike Singletary Previous 49ers head coach Mike Nolan tried to brink back old school football by wearing a suit on the sideline. Interim head coach Mike Singletary has down it with his words and actions. Not only did he confront tight end Vernon Davis on the sideline when he committed a stupid penalty, Coach Singletary sent him to the locker room in the 3rd quarter when Davis responded negatively. He also benched quarterback J.T. O’Sullivan when his performance was lacking despite what offensive coordinator Mike Martz wanted. These actions are going to put the rest of the team on notice. Singletary Get's The Job Done
TheScore.com Blog —
We were talking about it here this morning, and Mike Singletary is basically already a coaching legend. His first press conference was an instant classic. And despite a lot of pundits suggesting that you can't possibly run a football team like a raving maniac this day in age, or that Singletary is going to wind up punching one of his players in the mouth before the season is over, he seems to have already produced some results. Vernon Davis, the 49ers tight end at the centre of Singletary's outburst, posted an entry on his blog last night, and sounds like the coach got through to him. At the very least, he's saying ...

Insane in a good way though. Is Jason Garrett to blame for our offensive struggles?
Blogging The Boys —
Weird article by some guy I've never heard of on some site I've barely heard of. It does raise an interesting point though: has Jason Garrett escaped criticism? Is he to blame for some of our offensive struggles?
Eerily, head coach-in-waiting Jason Garrett has escaped criticism. The offensive coordinator has not been creative enough in terms of play calling (or play designing) to jump-start a running game that the teams desperately needs. Johnson should not have been put in a position to attempt 33 passes.
I would say he deserves as much blame as anyone else. We seemed to struggle offensively in the Washington game and the situation ...

If this doesn’t make the 49ers must-see TV the rest of the year, nothing will (and actually, nothing else will). Statistical Review of the 2008 San Francisco 49ers: II. Offense
Niners Nation —
On Monday, I reviewed the Niners' overall season stats for the team as a whole. Today, in Part 2 of my season review, I'm going to focus on the offensive side of the ball.
As I'm sure some of you have noticed, I was never a big Mike Martz fan, whether it was when he was the head coach for STL or during his tenure as 49er OC. Although I've articulated my Martz-related opinions in other Niners Nation articles and comments, the truth is that my dislike is based more on science than any 49er-related topic du jour. Basically, my problem has to do with how his offense sets players up for failure. It may produce gaudy passing ...

Based on your poll votes, you've tended to agree with me, although a majority thought the 49ers should draft a QB after the 1st round, and a near-plurality thought they should draft a RT.

When I unexpectedly became the 49ers General Manager last week the first thing I realized was that my team led the NFL in sacks-allowed in 2008 with a horrid 55. We have a major hole at RT with Jonas Jennings being told by new Head Coach Mike Singletary that he will not return. Singletary wants to draft winners
Mining the Gold Rush —
I think it's quite obvious that the 49ers, especially head coach Mike Singletary, wants to draft players that have the right mentality. After the fiasco with Georgia QB Matthew Stafford, it's apparent that the team will not take any kind of attitude-problem players. You all remember this from the 2008 season: The 49ers are being built with ego-free players. And with Singletary's desire to draft players that are "winners", how much do the 49ers take into consideration with a player that has so much talent but a slight attitude problem? The only reason why I am ...

Mocking the Draft: Final Edition Part 1
Fourth And Fifty —
Mocking the NFL Draft is a column running weekly until the NFL Draft, in which Pipez literally* puts on a Mel Kiper wig and discusses the tough issues surrounding the draft.
Draft experts so good, no GM will hire them!
Well kids, this is your final lesson. You are almost ready for the 48 straight hours of ...
A Very Orange Mock Draft
Three Idiots on Sports —
The NFL draft is just a few days away and that means one thing - the mock draft "off-season" is nearly upon us. So take in as much as you can football fans because soon all the grown men who appear on TV, in print and on the interwebs talking about their guesses for who will get drafted where will go away for the next 9 months ...
Crabtree Excited at the Opportunity to View Mike Singletary's Brown Eye
Mizzourah —
Okay, good, we can all breathe a little. Maclin SHOULD be the next WR taken now. Al Davis doesn't have another pick, J-Mac should be coming off the board soon. Also, about Mike Singletary. "I used my pants to illustrate that we were getting our tails whipped on Sunday and how humiliating that should feel for all of us. I needed to do something to dramatize my point; there were other ways I could have done it but I think this got the message across." -- Mike Singletary Don't lose, Crabtree, ...
The 49ers have fallen to 0-1
Shutdown Corner —
The
San Francisco 49ers lost yesterday. I don't know how they managed to do this,
since they don't actually play anyone until August 14th, when the Broncos come
to town for a preseason game. All I can do is take Mike Singletary's word for
it, though. From SFGate.com:
Singletary spoke to his players for a good 15 minutes following practice, his
voice rising to the occasion of his passion on several occasions. The message
seemed to be to get it right whenever you take the field. The month of May, or
at least the 19th, was not so merry for the 49ers. "Practice today was not what it needs to ...

2009 RotoRob NFL Draft Kit: San Francisco 49ers Team Preview
RotoRob —
A sixth straight losing season in San Francisco cost Mike Nolan his job.
We’re back with more of the 2009 RotoRob NFL Draft Kit with yet another team preview (we’re on the home stretch now, with just five teams to go). We’re going to try to shoot out all these team previews and then start releasing the kit’s other ...
Your 49ers Update: Everybody Hates Vernon Davis
SPORTSbyBROOKS —
So this is probably the year when Vernon Davis either earns his wings for the 49ers, or jumps off the bridge in Bedford Falls. Chosen sixth overall in 2006 draft, it looked at first as if the tight end was a wise choice. But three years and nine TDs later (along with 103 receptions and 1,132 yards), I’m seeing more J.J. Stokes than Brent Jones (and yes, I know Stokes was a WR; just sayin’). Vernon Davis ...
NFL Season Preview: NFC West
Foul Pole to Foul Pole —
Can Kurt Work His Magic In 2009?
Don’t let a Super Bowl appearance fool you, the NFC West was a bad division last season. The best of the worst was the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona took a 9-7 record into the playoffs, got hot, and were only 35 seconds away from being the Super Bowl Champions. San Francisco experienced a ...
Maryland Terrapins Do Not Belong On the West Coast
Stet Sports Blog —
Let’s just tell the truth; the University of Maryland and athletes associated with the University of Maryland have no business on the West Coast.
The Terrapins football team traveled to the west side to take on the Cal Bears this past weekend. They’ll be lucky if Ralph Friedgen doesn’t take turns attempting to crush each offensive player’s larynx tomorrow morning, when the Terps review film of the 52-13 stomping.
Shortly thereafter, we find out that former Terp Shawne Merriman is alleged to have choked out his arm candy girlfriend Tila Tequila. It is the latest ...
Turnaround continues for Vernon Davis
ProFootballTalk.com —
We're never going to forget Mike Singletary's coaching debut in San Francisco last October. Mainly, because his pants fell off at halftime. But also because of the very underrated postgame rant touched off by tight end Vernon Davis. That day, in a blowout loss to the Seahawks, Davis drew a 15-yard personal foul then, when approached on the sideline by Singletary about it, Davis tried to blow him off. Singletary sent Davis to the showers then raked him over the coals from the podium afterwards. "I will not tolerate players that think it's about them when it's about the team," Singletary said. "I would rather play with 10 people and ...
Fantasy Flex – Week 3 Studs and Duds
Goal-Line Stand —
It’s Monday which means week 3 is almost in the books so it’s time for another awesome edition of “Studs and Duds”. Last week a reader was not happy that I left out some players in the week 2 version of “S&D’s” so I would like to take a second to remind everyone that I only select one player for each spot (obviously each week you can make a case for multiple players). Here we go… QB Stud-Peyton Manning: 24-35, 379 YDS, 4 TD It takes a lot more than a short week and lots of travel to slow down Manning. Dud-Drew ...
Mike Singletary Is A Football Coach
Ed The Sports Fan —
Let it be known that I cannot stand the San Francisco 49ers; never have, never will. As a Cowboys fan, it’s not genetically possible for me to like them, and for years, I’ve wished nothing but despair upon them. Now though, that hate has been quelled, and it’s all because of one man. A man that has come in, taken a team with decent talent, but with a losing mentality, and has instilled a sense of pride and self-respect. That man is none other than Mike Singletary. It would be easy to say Singletary is a real man, since he’s Texas Made (Houston, STAND UP), but it’s deeper than that. For whatever ...
TSI Salutes: Mike Singletary
The Same Intensity —
In his head coaching debut -- a 34-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks -- San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary set the tone for tenure in San Fran by a) dropping his pants and showing the team his bare ass at halftime as a visual representation that they were getting their butts kicked and b) sending tight end Vernon Davis to the locker room with a little over than 10 minutes left in the game after Davis was penalized 15 yards for slapping Seahawks safety Brian Russell on the helmet after a reception.
In the post-game presser, Singletary dropped this gem:
I would rather play with 10 people and ...
Various Cowboys Emails
Bob's Blog - Live from Lewisville —
Two quick links that will further make you crazy before we get to some Saturday morning emails. Due to time constraints, I do want you to know I read every email, but when I get 30 emails that say basically the same thing, I think it is far more prudent as a guy with a family to "mass answer" some of those and save a bit of time. Therefore, the occasional email bag as opposed to personally answering each of the 800 emails I have backed up on my laptop. ...
