Blake Hoffarber Hits Miracle Shot, Minnesota Upsets Indiana
Published 3/15/2008 at FanIQ Blog
Remember the high school basketball player from Minnesota who hit the ridiculous game winning shot laying on the floor for the state championship. That was Blake Hoffarber who clearly has a flair for the dramatic as he's done it again Christian Laettner style.
Madness.
Now either the Gophers or Illinois Fighting Illini will play for the Big Ten Championship. Sweet.
Some other games of note ...
Michigan State 67, Ohio State 60 Buckeyes should still be in. Good news for the Spartans is that Drew Neitzel went off for 28. That'll be needed again this afternoon ...
Big Ten MADNESS!
Published 3/15/2008 by ladyandrea at Ladies...
There was some pretty crazy shit happening last night in the Minnesota/Indiana game. In case you haven’t seen the highlights yet (because there’s no way very many of you saw it when the game was ACTUALLY on. I mean, 1) it’s Big Ten basketball and 2) it was on the Big Ten Network), what happened was this: DJ White went to the free throw ...
Saturday's Starting Five

1. The Houston Rockets. They're still streaking across the NBA and are now tied for first place in the Western Conference. They've won 21 games in a row. That is over 1/4 of the NBA season without a loss. This streak is no longer just a feel-good sidebar to the rest of the season. The Rockets are now tied atop the standings in the deepest conference that we've seen in years. They have the second longest winning streak in the history of the National Basketball Association and they have lowered their lead shoulder as they head into tomorrow's collision with a Gasol-less Lakers squad. Their next five games are a murderers row (LA, Boston, Cleveland, ...
Never Challenge Blake Hoffarber To A Game Of H.O.R.S.E. [That Just Happened]
Published 3/15/2008 by Sussman at Deadspin
When they were handing out natural disasters in the NCAA conference tournaments, the SEC came up with tornadoes. The Big Ten ended up with lightning striking twice. (The MAC? Perpetual darkness.) Minnesota's Blake Hoffarber's last-second desperation jumper to beat Indiana 59-58 was brain-exploding unto itself, but this isn't Hoffarber's first circus shot, or even his best.
In 2005, during a high school state championship game, Hoffarber heaved a shot (while lying on his back) on the perimeter to tie the game and force double overtime. His team went onto win the state title, and he would win an ESPY in 2005 for Best Play.
And ...
Hill To Laettner: The Sequel

As a fan of the Minnesota Gophers, I’ve never quite experienced the extreme change of emotions that I did while watching the Goofs face Indiana last night in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. As you’ll see in the highlight, Indiana pretty much had this game wrapped up with 1.5 seconds remaining, but Blake Hoffarber saved our collective behinds with the best buzzer beater I’ve seen in a long time:
An incredible play indeed, and as the video shows, Hoffarber clearly has a flair for the dramatic. You’ve gotta love Tubby’s reaction…with all the crap he had to deal with from the nut jobs in ...
Just a quick recap

The madness officially begins with the NCAA Tournament Selection Show in about 27 hours, but any college basketball-related lunacy from here on out is going to struggle to live up to the standard set by yesterday's action. ...

- We’ll get the late game over with first since it was past our East Coast bedtime (had to get up to watch a bunch of 9 year-olds “run” a 5k at 8 am). #11 Stanford beat #22 Washington State 75-68 behind Brook Lopez’s 30/12/3 for the third ...
Your College Basketball Tournaments Update

Big Ten: Minnesota’s Blaker Hoffarber knows clutch. The freshman guard enjoyed your token game-winning-jumper-as-time-ran-out moment Friday to beat Indiana. But he also hit another huge shot not too long ago. He hit a game-tying shot with his back against the wall floor in the 2005 Minnesota high school state championship to send the game into double-overtime (yes, they won). Minnesota is currently playing Illinois ...
Blake Hoffarber's (2nd) miracle shot
Published 3/16/2008 by The Inevitable Muck-up at Some People's Kids
Blake Hoffarber must spend entirely too much time in the gym thinking up ridiculous shots to attempt in order to have presence of mind, timing and aim to to make this sort of shot. The shot was amazing and almost an exact duplicate of Christian Laettner's shot against Kentucky in 1992. That shot allowed Tubby ...
SELECTION SUNDAY MADNESS
Published 3/16/2008 at With Leather
I've spent the last several days (justifiably) disparaging the Big Ten tourney, but this ridiculous ending to Minnesota's upset of Indiana (via Fan IQ) goes a long way in making up for all that painful-to-watch hoops -- Blake Hoffarber's miracle shot has definitely given me an anticipatory hard-on for the tourney this week. Of course, the Golden Gophers then lost to #10 seed Illinois (16-18, 5-13 Big Ten) in the semis, so the Illini have a chance to slip into the NCAAs today if they can upend powerhouse Wisconsin. The Illini aren't the only unlikely team gunning for the tourney: previously ...

The only blog with the courage to post a Monday blog without any NCAA links. Make sure you send me your brackets, by the way. I am dying to know who you have coming out of the West…. Tiger steals the Show ….Again! There have been five winning streaks of at least five tournaments in PGA Tour history. Woods owns three of them, with the others belonging to Hogan (6) and Byron Nelson, whose 11 in a row is considered among the most untouchable records in all of sports. Woods won Bay Hill for the fifth time, becoming the first player in PGA Tour history to win at least five times in four different ...
The Legend of Blake Hoffarber
Published 3/17/2008 by College Wolf at TWolvesBlog
Two incredible shots by the legend that is now Blake Hoffarber. The first was his shot while laying down to send the 2005 Minnesota State High School Championship into double overtime, which was eventually won by his team (Hopkins.) He won an ESPY for this award as "Play of the Year." The second shot is from the second round of this year's Big Ten Tournament, in which the Minnesota Gophers upset the NCAA Tournament bound Indiana Hoosiers. 2005 MN STATE HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP: Disclaimer - All videos found on TWolvesBlog.com are hosted and distributed by 3rd party video websites. Nobody reads blogs during March Madness do they? HOFFARBER
Published 3/18/2008 by Tom at Gopher Nation
Sorry for lack of posting. Surprisingly I have had very little time to blog but I'll do my best to get some post season tournament previews out there. Congratulations to the Gophers (women) for making the NCAA Tournament! While the NCAA's for the men would have been a blast, congratulations are in order for making the NIT and even getting to host an ACC team (that beat UNC none the less). Without winning the Big Ten Tourny, it was still a blast to watch because of this, which I just cannot get enough of... unfortunately you have to watch the Delaney inspired, mafia directed, three blind ...
It's Minnesota Day on BTN

Today the BTN highlights Minnesota's most recent athletic year. Below are the notable events to be aired on the BTN today. 12:00 N - 4:00 "Minnesota Basketball: The Journey" episodes 1-8 I don't think I have seen each all 8 episodes but this was an entertaining little series. They followed the Gophers in Tubby's first season. If you look REALLY close, you can see me in the Big Ten ACC Challenge episode as I paid to go with the team to Florida State that weekend. 7:00 - Minnesota over Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament. The primetime slot is occupied by Blake Hoffarber's miracle shot. ...
Blake Hoffarber up for his second ESPY
Published 24 days ago by Tom (noreply@blogger.com) at Gopher Nation
The ESPY Nominations were released today. Blake Hoffarber's shot to beat Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament has earned a nomination. I don't know the stats or ESPY records but he would have to be one of the few (if not only) amateurs to win an ESPY. Really he could become the only person to win multiple ESPY's who's name is NOT Tiger Woods. Hoffarber's competition? #1 - Super Bowl: Eli Manning to David Tyree... This one is obviously the heavy favorite. It is arguably the best play in Super Bowl history. I'm not sure the legend that is Blake Hoffarber is enough to ...
