When you haven't won a bowl game since the 1948 Rose Bowl, close doesn't really cut it. That said, Northwestern did themselves proud as they went toe to toe with a Missouri team far more talented and experienced.
Despite leading 16-10 and 23-20 late in the game, the Wildcats failed to convert on a few late third downs and lost in overtime. Northwestern needed to play a perfect game and while they were close, one of their errors was kicking to Jeremy Maclin. You kick to Maclin, you lose.
