Posted by b.t.wilson on Dec 09, 2008 at 10:19 PM agree disagree I'm a homer. I love Cote. But I gave it a draw, each landed some goodies, and both were opened up. Please don't take it personally, its just my opinion. Good fight. Either of these guys would destroy Neil or Peters. Versus brings out the Patrick Division in Isles-Flyers
Lighthouse Hockey —
Interesting game. Classic Patrick Division-style tilt. Lots to cover, so let's jump right to it. I'm talking Brendan Witt's health, the Pock(x) on our house, the Comeau/Tambellini contrast, the Josh Bailey WJC question (and his declining play), Fritz v. Cote video, plus some random game-specific observations.
One thing I don't feel bad about, though, even though it will go into the TV announcer handbook alongside this season's real collapses, is the "blown 2-0 lead." A brief first-period 2-0 lead is not the same as carrying a two-goal lead into the third. It's just not. This was not the plague we saw vs. Pittsburgh or Montreal or ...
Tuesday's three stars: Habs rookie shines; bloody fun in Philly
Puck Daddy —
No. 1 star: Matt D'Agostini, Montreal Canadiens Yes, Robert Lang had two goals and an assist playing with Alex Tanguay and Alexei Kovalev. But D'Agostini scored the game-winning goal in the Habs' 4-1 win over the visiting Calgary Flames, and it was a critical one. Montreal led 1-0, but the stellar goaltending of Miikka Kiprusoff kept the Flames dangerous. That was until D'Agostini blocked an Adam Pardy point shot, split the Calgary defensemen and beat Kiprusoff for an unassisted goal -- and perhaps the best of the night -- at 4:17 of the second. Lang's goal to ...
Flyers Fourth Liners Do Battle
The700Level.com - Philly Sports & Minutiae —
The names of the Flyers fourth line players show up in the box score after almost every game. Usually it's with a (roughing) or a (fighting) afterward, but last night, in addition to some hard-earned PIM, they also showed up on the score sheet. To open the scoring for the Flyers, who were down 2-0, Riley Cote threw big check behind the net, quickly gathered the puck, and tossed a great pass to the front of the net, which Aaron Asham buried behind Isles goalie Yann Danis.
Early in the second period, Cote did what he's known best for, battling a man twice his size in Mitch Fritz, who stands 6'8" to Cote's 6'1". ...
On The Fritz
The Power Play —
During Tuesday's Islanders/Flyers game, Riley Cote and Mitch Fritz dropped the gloves and proceeded to have themselves one hell of a heavyweight fight. It started off with a bunch of solid quick shots which cut both guys open, but then turned into what looks like one of those weird moments in boxing when the fighters appear to just be hugging each other and making plans to hook up for dinner after the bout. Either way this was a good fight, and once they were split up both Fritz and Cote looked as if they had just come from the set of a horror movie. If only we could get Mitch Fritz to battle it out with Cal Clutterbuck of ...
