Flagrant Fouls From The NBA Playoffs

Yesterday afternoon during the Lakers/Jazz game, Ronny Turiaf sent a message to the Jazz. And that message was you won't go in for a layup even long after the whistle has blown, no sir. That's because it's the playoffs, where NBA players suddenly decide it's time to play hard and earn their paychecks, or something like that. Anyway, the funny thing is I can barely remember any flagrant fouls from the regular season, yet in the past few weeks, we've seen a ton of them. Let's take a look back.
Here's Ronny Turiaf taking the no layups rule a little too far. ...
Ronnie Price decked by Ronnie Turiaf

Ronnie Turiaf is a beast. He looks like one normally but in this play he really looked like one.
The Utah Jazz’s Ronnie Price went up for a layup and Turiaf decided he wanted to knock him out of midair. Thats one way to stop the shot.
Turiaf got a flagrant 2 for this and was ejected. I thought he should’ve gotten a flagrant 1. He didn’t look like he was trying to hurt Price.

Flagrant Fouls and Ejections

The league has already made it clear that there are various issues that will be discussed regarding the league. The two issues brought up so far are the potential for more use of instant replay, after the obvious three pointer that wasn’t waived off at the end of the 3rd quarter between the Orlando Magic and the Detroit Piston . The other issue, fouling off the ball. Teams like the San Antonio Spurs have gotten away with it for so many years, including Shaq’s entire tenure in LA and now the post season with Shaq playing for the Suns. I strongly believe there is another issue to consider though. I wrote an article a while back about the referees inconsistencies in ...
The Least Best of the Weekend

Los Angeles Lakers - missed their opportunity to kick Utah in the Jazz and go up 3-0 on Friday, losing 99-104. Kobe held up his share of the bargain (34 pts, 6 boards, 7 assists), but the rest of the purple people choked up 14 turnovers on 7 assists. Horse blinders or Vaseline hands? I hope it was the blinders. Dwight Howard - found a way to lose at home to a de-Billupsed Pistons squad on Saturday. The Magic were falling back on their heels and were outscored 46-34 in the second half, losing 89-90. No coincidence that Superman went 3 for 12 and was outscored by the Wonder Twins (aka Jameer Nelson and Maurice Evans, 15 ...
Ronny Turiaf Will Not be Suspended for Flagrant Foul

In game 4 against the Jazz in Utah, Lakers forward Ronny Turiaf committed a flagrant-2 on Utah guard Ronny Price in which Turiaf threw Price to the ground will Price was attempting a layup. I will admit that Turiaf did foul Price pretty damn hard, but a flagrant 2? I don't think so, definitely a flagrant foul because it resulted in stitches over Ronny Price's eye, but it was not intentional and did not deserve a flagrant-2 which results in an automatic ejected and can be subject to suspension. Well it seems as though the NBA saw it that way too because they have announced that Ronny Turiaf will not be suspended for the foul. Jazz ...
