Vujacic Shows How Not to Defend One on One
X’s & O’s of Basketball —
A tremendous comeback win by the Celtics, one of the best in playoff history. A devastating loss for the Lakers, who could've tied this series and instead look like they will fall short. The key in my opinion was the lockdown defense, the Celtics just locked down in the 3rd quarter and the Lakers were up against the shot clock on multiple possessions. ...
More From Celtics/Lakers Game 4 - Still Can't Sleep Edition
CelticsBlog —
Ray Allen's reverse lay up was ridiculous. To review. He blew by a rotating Kobe Bryant, jumped, avoided Pau Gasol's block attempt, which was a lot more of an attempt than his game 2 wave at Leon Powe and his later wave at Allen in game 4, started falling, and somehow threw squeezed a shot off between an outstretched Lamar Odom and the basket. ...

More Game 4 Thoughts: This Just In, It's Still Hilarious
Hardwood Paroxysm —
Let's talk a little bit about the Ray Allen layup that sealed it. So Ray's got the ball with about 24 seconds on the clock. Sasha at this point, should be making it priority No.1 to stay in front of him. That's his job right there. Not to steal it. He's up against Ray Allen. He doesn't need to foul, he needs to stay. at. home. And what does he do? In typical Vujacic fashion, he tries to be aggressive and take the ball away like he's playing pick up with his friends at Slovenia U. Then he realizes that's probably not a good idea and backs up. But there's one problem. ...
NBA Finals: Game, Set, Match?
Intentional Foul —
Wow. What a comeback.
That’s what I was left with last night after watching the Celtics climb out of holes that were, in some cases, 21, 24 and 20 points deep to capture Game 4 — and control of the series — 97-91. While the comeback was certainly one for the ages, Boston started the game like they wanted to be back on the east coast. They ended the first quarter trailing 35-14. In fact, they –as a team — were almost outscored by Lamar Odom, who finished with 13 first quarter points.
But after that was complete, the Celtics outscored the Lakers in each of the remaining stanzas with the ...
An Open Letter to Jesus Shuttlesworth
SeaTown Sports —
or Ray Allen for that matter... Dear Mr. Shuttlesworth, You are one hella good basketball player. I'm not gonna lie, when Seattle traded you, I was a little hurt by the "I was stuck in the doldrums" statement about Seattle. But I've gotten over it. I'm so happy you're in the NBA finals. You deserve it. You straight took over the game ...
Ray Allen's Perfect Possession
ESPN.com - TrueHoop —
After some thought, the play of Game 4 that stands out most to me was Ray Allen's unbelievable bit of clock killing. The Lakers scored with 40 seconds, to make it a three-point game. If I coached the Lakers, I would have fouled very quickly in this situation. (Quick version of the argument, which is for another day: If Boston kills a full 24 seconds, you're only left with 16 seconds, and you would need one or two scores. If you foul, you're working with 39 seconds and needing one or two scores. Boston gets closer to the win with every second that comes off the clock. Evidently, few coaches agree with me on that, because they typically ...

Yessir! I’m back like these hi-top fade haircuts that
shoulda been left in 1989 (don’t ask a grown man like me to “take it
back”, I was though with it before these retro-kids learned what to do
with it). Sorry I didn’t chime in with a finals preview 2 weeks ago.
I’m glad I didn’t, considering the Celtics went to seven games twice
against much less talented teams, faced Detroit and had question marks
over their performances up until that point. I would have called the
finals a little differently based on fatigue alone. Given, the ...

The Curious Case of the Realist
The Commission —
[image] Waldini: Just read JA Adande's two columns (left hand side). The first column's for Realist, since he's fallen back in love with the NB er I mean Lebron. A breakdown of Kobe's D on Wade. The second column's for Gangsta and the amusement he's sure to have when he reads that Shaq wants his jersey retired at Staples. Da Realist: I hadn't read the article just yet, but I did watch that game last night. Kobe did a good job on Wade. But keep these two things in mind... a) Kobe played great ball-deny defense on Wade. I saw Kobe on several occasions abandon a sound defensive position (which would have enabled him to play help defense) in an ...
Men Settle Their Quarrels Like Men
2nd Round Reach - NBA and Fantasy Basketball Commentary for the Truly Obsessed —
As you've come to expect, an absence of more then a couple days usually means I've been gettin' busy with 2RR elsewhere, and the pattern holds true again. Check out my-Lakers-centric addition to Pete Marasmich's All-Scapegoat Team. While my contribution of Sasha Vujacic is focused on his becoming a liability in last year's playoffs, I think there's a special kind of bile reserved for players like this amongst LA's followers.
Like Brian Cook before him, a too-large committment to a short-term role player has put the Lakers in an uncomfortable position, as Sasha's extension (what now ...
