Wicked Weekly: May 2
Published 5/2/2008 by Rich Levine at Comcast SportsNet » Wicked Good Sports
Thoughts while wondering how many hours a day Sam Cassell has his back wrapped in an ace bandage… Random List of the Week NBA players who’ve impressed me (on different levels) during the playoffs: PG: Chris Paul, New Orleans - The superstar who’s entered completely unchartered territory in terms of potential. If someone told me today that Paul will retire with five championship rings, I couldn’t argue. SG: Rodney Stuckey - The unpolished rookie who’s coming into his own in just enough time to be ready to potentially ...

THE BEAT GOES ON

PENGUINS 4 FLYERS 2 Yesterday, I picked the Penguins to beat the Flyers in six games. After watching the game on Friday night, I think my prediction was about five games too many, because this series is looking pretty lopsided. The first period was a bit of a roller coaster, perhaps to due to the Pens' extended layoff. The pair of goals scored by Mike Richards were not exactly the stuff of legends: one was pretty much stopped by Marc-Andre Fleury, but somehow trickled in; the other was due to a traffic jam of Parkway rush hour-sized proportions. Said ...

FLYERS RETURN HOME, WELCOMED BY NO ONE

PENGUINS 4 FLYERS 2 For all of the alleged fireworks that were set to go off before this series started, the Philadelphia Flyers have, through two games, resembled only what Lee Flowers would call "Paper Champions". Where's the offense? The Penguins feature goal-scorers like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Marian Hossa, et al. They're even getting goals from Max Talbot. The Flyers feature Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Mike Richards, and...Mike Richards. $52 million Flyer Daniel Briere is officially on "missing" milk-carton status. Red-hot R.J. Umberger has been held to two ...

ORANGE CRUSHED

PENGUINS 4 FLYERS 1 There is nothing sweeter for a Penguin fan than watching 19,965 orange-clad Philadelphians go home disappointed. Actually, there is; that would be a win in Game Four on Thursday night, which would be sweeping the Flyers off of ...

Golden Mullets, Schadenfreude, and the Man-Power Advantage

by Ryan When you are watching a game in a Cone of Silence, you tend to have some time to kill. So, I started thinking back on how Versus has been covering the playoffs so far. I really would prefer watching CBC all the time, but I can't get an HD feed here in the states. So... with my TV determining how I watch hockey I thought I'd post about it. Here's what I came up with: Crowd Shots- So far so good. The schadenfreude from Game Three in Philly was pretty sweet, but perhaps they should utilize the dead air in overtime by showing worried faces in the crowd, much like Fox started doing with baseball in ...

PENGUINS 3 RED WINGS 2 Penguin fans: so excited, they don't even put away their change from the vendor Wow. I was exhausted merely watching the Penguins' epic 3-2 win last night, so I can only imagine what the players are feeling like today. In order, I would probably guess: confident, relieved, energized, enthused, and then exhausted. For NBC, the NHL, and the hockey-watching public, this was the kind of game everyone dreamed of. It was the sport of hockey at its highest level, and it was beautiful to witness. The ...

With the NHL Awards upon us tonight at 7 PM EST (CBC/VERSUS) we decided to hold an awards show of our own. This list is by no means a definitive collection of NHL blogs around the internet- there are countless sites who do an amazing job. I'd be working all summer if I attempted to mention every site I've had the pleasure of enjoying this season. ...
