Making MSG Relevant
Published 3/17/2008 by Scotty Hockey at Scotty Hockey
MSG Network used to be the biggest, best regional sports network in America. Then they lost the Yankees to YES. Then they let the staff and equipment get old and outdated. In recent years they have attempted to clean up their image and, frankly, I don't think they have done a very good job. The Rangers and Knicks broadcasts are still well done, as is Mike Quick's High School Weekly ... it's just everything else that needs work. ...
Down the stretch they come

With ten games left (all against divisional opponents), and the Rangers running out of time to entrench themselves in the playoffs, today is the first day of the rest of the Rangers' season. That's how they have to look at tonight's matchup with the Penguins in MSG. Nothing that has happened before today matters... they only need to win tonight. Sidney Crosby continues to nurse an injured ankle and won't play, but Pittsburgh hasn't missed a beat without him in the lineup. So I won't tread over well-worn ground. Instead, I will try to take a spin in the impending free agents' skates and look at the pros and cons of keeping a New York address: Sean Avery, UFA: New York loves him and he loves New York. But he won't stand for being disrespected ...
Sorting Out The Seven Spot
Published 7/11/2008 by Scotty Hockey (noreply@blogger.com) at Scotty Hockey
The Rangers defense is pretty much set for next season at this point with just some minor tinkering going on. The unit looks like this: Roszival-Staal Redden - Girardi Mara - Kalinin The seventh defenseman spot, so capably handled by Rock Star and mustache aficionado Jason Strudwick last year, is now up for grabs as Struds has headed to Edmonton. Happy trails to Strudwick, who did his job well (if slowly). A hard worker, he did everything he could to help the team and it was sincerely appreciated, at least here at Scotty Hockey. Hopefully he will return someday as a coach. But ...
