Datsyuk's Winter Classic goal
From The Rink —
Very nice goal by Pavel Datsyuk. I don't know about any wind-assistance here, but the majority of the goals were scored with the wind at a team's back.
Tough game for Cristobal Huet.
Winter Classic Roundup
Winging It In Motown —
I'm still trying to upload all my photos (it's taking awhile), but I'll be sure to put up a FanShot and a link to the rest as soon as I can. Until that and when I complete the game recap, here's a quick roundup of what other blogs are saying about the Winter Classic. If I missed something, please feel free to add it in the comment section.
SBN Blogs
James Mirtle at From the Rink hosted a WC liveblog with other SBN bloggers and Puck Daddy. Matt and Sam at Second City Hockey posted a game thread and then a recap about the game. I got a chance to meet Al, the blogger behind, Bleed Cubbie Blue before the game. As a big ...
Newsmakers in the NHL: Red Wings Take Winter Classic
FanHouse —
by Adam Gretz Filed under: Blackhawks, Wings, NHL General, NHL Fans, NHL Videos Pavel Datsyuk's goal (shown above) was perhaps the highlight of a great day of hockey in Chicago, and we have to give a well-deserved tip of the cap to Eric McErlain for giving us all a front row seat for the festivities and excitement around Wrigley Field. Chicago jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after the first period, looking like it was out to send a message after Tuesday night's loss in Detroit, only to have the Red Wings roar back with five ...
Post-Classic II out-of-town round-up
Snapshots —
An international press corps provides nearly fifty stories discussing the Detroit Red Wings' 6-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks in the Winter Classic II at Wrigley Field, and while I plan on sticking to the "digest" format, the Associated Press's Jim Litke captured "the spirit of the thing" so well that he leads us off: January 1, Associated Press ...
Crosswinds in Chitown
The Goose's Roost —
by Ryan The best thing to happen to the Chicago Blackhawks in five years? Their owner died. Bill Wirtz passed away last September, and since then Chicago has risen from the ashes of a stagnant franchise to become a real factor in the league once again. Their young players have blossomed, fans can watch home games on television, and big name free agents were brought in to make what was once a sad team finally compete in the New "NHL". This year a lot has happened in Chicago, with head coach Denis Savard fired four games into the 2008-09 season. Many saw the move as unfair given the time table, but he will always be remembered for ...
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds - Because you're mine, I walk the line: Blackhawks Mid-Season Report-The Defensemen
Second City Hockey —
The blue liners on this team have been largely overshadowed by the surprisingly potent offense. But don't let that fool you.. we've got a bunch of talented defenders on this team. Don't let this all star game fool you either - Campbell is not going to be the best of them. Together with the two-headed monster we have between the pipes our team is 4th in the league in Goals Against per Game. We've seen them buckle down and simply refuse to let anything to the net (past few games excluded)
So lets see how they're doing individually: ...
The Hart of the League
MVN RSS —
The finalists for the Hart Trophy were announced this week. To no one's surprise, Alexander Ovechkin was nominated as Most Valuable Player; he will try to win his second in a row. We in Washington know a lot about Ovechkin of course, but maybe not as much about the other two candidates who were nominated. All have good reason to be nominated, and each of them was clearly the MVP of their respective teams. It certainly will be a tough decision, as all three of these players are worthy of the honor. ...
Nothing says August like four Red Wings 'Winter Classic" memories
Snapshots —
NHL.com continues it's summer "Top Ten" lists with a Dan Rosen-penned list of the "Top Ten Winter Classic" moments, spanning the first edition as well as the Detroit Red Wings' New Year's Day game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Four memories stick as far as I'm concerned, with only a head-over-heels flop landing in the "so-so" category: August 3, NHL.com ...
