Video: Laraque 'not worried' after knee-on-knee hit on Kronwall
Puck Daddy —
The Detroit Red Wings are expecting defenseman Niklas Kronwall(notes) will be out at least two weeks with a "a second-degree, possibly third-degree MCL sprain to his left knee" after a knee-on-knee hit by Montreal Canadiens tough guy Georges Laraque(notes) on Saturday night -- at hit Wings players and management have condemned as dirty. Here's the hit, which came after Laraque had already been whistled for a high stick on Darren Helm(notes) that got him a double-minor: The three penalties Laraque ...
Mike Babcock Hates Everything
Hockeyhead —
I don’t want to mislead you. I didn’t watch much of this hockey game (bits at best, it’s cloudy), hate the drink not the drinker.
Going easy on the Detroit Red Wings is not something we normally shy away from around here. To rehash, Georges Laraque high-sticks Darren Helm who then lays around like the vag he is, while Georges Laraque skates to the other end of the ice begging someone to fight.
Laraque then throws a dirty knee on Niklas Kronwall (it was bush league), and Detroit sources are saying he will be out at least two weeks. ...

Georges Laraque knee on knee with Kronwall
Crash the Crease —
This is a scary play from last night, Georges Laraque hits Niklas Kronwall knee on knee and injures Kronwall on the play.
He has to be suspended right?
Usually if there is an injury the NHL will suspend the player, in this case Kronwall was injured.
Now I know Laraque probably didn’t mean to do it and his intent wasn’t there but he did it and should pay for it.
3 -- 5 games
Laraque The Irrelevant
Lions in Winter: Montreal Canadiens (Habs) News and Commentary —
I think I join Dennis Kane in saying " Georges has to admit he hurt his team last night ". About 8:30 into the first period against the Red Wings, Georges Laraque put on a display of irresponsible play and (yes, Don Cherry) complete lack of respect for his fellow competitors. It's a sequence of play that didn't endear him to teammates and has him in the NHL disciplinary dock today to defend himself. The first incident (seen in the video below) shows how Laraque in attempting to cover the pass lets the puck by him, choosing instead to unleash a slash on Darren Helm. The slash being high caught Helm across the face, was perhaps unfortunate ...

Niklas Kronwall out 4-8 weeks
Crash the Crease —
The banged-up Detroit Red Wings have lost defenseman Niklas Kronwall for at least a month with a sprained ligament in his left knee.
The team announced Sunday that Kronwall will be out four to eight weeks.
Kronwall had a leg-on-leg, open-ice collision with Montreal enforcer Georges Laraque on Saturday.
Laraque, who was called for tripping, said it was an accident. The Red Wings called it a dirty play.
Here is the video of the dirty knee
Laraque will meet with the league and will ...
What We Learned: At quarter pole, NHL's biggest surprises
Puck Daddy —
Hello, this is a feature that will run through the entire season and aims to recap the weekend's events and boils those events down to one admittedly superficial fact or stupid opinion about each team. Feel free to complain about it. Prior to the start of the season, everyone was just brimming with optimism. Hockey was, after what felt like a painfully long summer, almost back. The glee was palpable. As so many pundits do, I made what I called 20 bold predictions (where "bold" usually either meant "sarcastic" or "painfully obvious" but occasionally bordered on ...

More Injuries
The injuries this keep piling up and we’re not even finished with the second month of the season yet. It seems like every day, another important fantasy player goes down for the count, forcing us to fight over the likes of Zenon Konopka and Paul Bissonnette, which isn’t good for anyone. Since last Monday Ryan ...
The Morning Skate: George's Innocent Dance, Isles Move Forward and Holy Jumpin' Santa!
Slap Shot —
The N.H.L. will most likely suspend Canadiens tough guy Georges Laraque today after this sequence, the early season contender for Bad Shift of the Year….…in which Big George not only went knee on knee with the Red Wings Niklas Kronwall, which is the suspendable offense, but also clipped Darren Helm with a high stick 10 seconds earlier. Laraque. who got four minutes for the high stick and two for tripping, said the collision with Kronwall, the Wings effective blueliner, was accidental. “There were four refs on the ice and they didn’t call anything,” Laraque said (quoted by Dave Stubbs in The Montreal Gazette ...
As Red Wings wait for news of Laraque suspension, media suggests that even nice guys should be suspended
Snapshots —
As Red Wings wait for news of Laraque suspension, media suggests that even nice guys should be suspended By George Malik November 23, 2009, 5:07PM The Detroit Red Wings have yet to find out whether the NHL will suspend Montreal Canadiens winger Georges Laraque for his knee-on-knee hit on Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall, who will miss four to eight weeks with a sprain of his left MCL ligament, but one thing has become very clear today--the media has little time for Laraque's transgressions, despite his nice-guy image. Even Laraque supporter Adam Proteau (of the Hockey News) believes that Laraque should be suspended for an extended ...

Why Injuries Are on the Rise – Part II
Crash the Crease —
In Part I of this examination of why there has been a drastic increase in injuries to NHL players this season as compared to the same point in 2008-09, we looked at the increased size of players, the development in technology of players equipment, and the speed of the game as three reasons. In addition, there are three more main reasons which seem to be contributing to the IR list, as well as those players playing through injuries, AKA “the NHL’s walking wounded”.
In Part II, we will look into more reasons as to why NHL injuries have been increasing at an alarming rate:
4) The NHL Schedule due to 2010 ...
